We need schools to have "good men with guns" in them. We need school security. We protect our money with guns. Oh and the FLOTUS gets to protect her children with guns.

Cory Booker Awesome speech. Absolutely LOVE him. He had Bill on his feet. Michelle Obama AMAZING! one thing I read on twitter. Michelle Obama is Beyonce's Beyonce. lol It was seriously an incredible speech. Going to miss her grace & the classy way she has carried herself as 1st Lady. And Bernie didn't Ted Cruz the DNC. Plus gotta love seeing Paul Simon performing. I thought Corey did very well, too.
That was the kind of message I was hoping for - we're stronger working together, together we can do anything, together we won our freedom from the English, together we went to the moon, together we mapped the human genome. We're the greatest country on earth and we can continue to even greater things.
Not much Trump bashing or bashing of any kind, all inspirational, big-tent stuff.
Quite a contrast to the GOP 'us vs them' and 'our nation is a sewer hole' and 'Hillary is the anti-Christ' speeches.
Even got a good Baptist call and response thing going at the end.

She was not happy watching her children going to school accompanied by big men with guns. She said at that moment she thought 'what have we done?' She said that was when the full consequences of her husband winning the election hit her -specifically that her children would spend their formative years having to live in a fishbowl, escorted to school by security, because I think it's pretty self evident why the children of the POTUS would be attractive targets to all kinds of terrorists and whack jobs.
She didn't say, but I thought, while listening to her, that not only did she have to fear the normal crazies who might plot to hurt or kidnap her kids, but by being the children of the first black POTUS that brought a whole new crop of crazies out who would want to harm them. It must have been terrifying for her, these past 8 years, worrying not only about someone assassinating her husband but someone hurting her kids.
I'm having difficulties understanding how you thought that statement was hypocritical. Possibly you were only partly listening, trying to find statements you could cherry pick to be offended by? I find it useful, when someone is giving a speech, to at least listen to that whole part of the speech in context, before finding offense.

Best. Democratic. Convention. Ever. I wasn't going to watch, but now I can't stop. It's glorious! Just GLORIOUS!!! Every other speaker getting booed off the stage, the slightest mention of their nominee's name and the crowd boos and jeers. Bernie supporters chanting LOCK HER UP during an MSNBC interview at the DNC Bernie texting his supporters to please not protest inside the hall. Dems confiscating Bernie signs inside the hall. Lovely. Just a beautiful convention. A Republican could not hope for more... Massive anti-TPP crowd inside the convention hall:
www.facebook.com/OperationTrump2016/videos/634930573331816/?pnref=storyThe Democrats are living their worst nightmare: they've lost control of their low-information, lunatic base-- even as Trump's populist message (and anti-TPP stance) appeals directly to them. Bernie got 12 million voters. Heres's some quick math for you: 9% of 12 million is a million... (Trump doesn't need that many-- and he hasn't even gone for the direct, explicit emotional play which will work if and when he does: vote for me just to spite her)

Or Rihanna, for that matter. ) I'll be voting for Cory Booker when he runs for president in the future just because he's black.

If they vote for Trump, its because they are positive he will burn the house down.
They can be passionate and crazy like Trump supporters but their beliefs are pretty much opposite of Trump followers.

Oh it's absolutely hypocritical. She obviously wasnt making a point about guns. But she slipped. Her kids are protected by guns that's a fact. There are crazies targeting all kids just not hers. All kids deserve to be protected as well.

Someplace like Venezuela for instance?
She was saying she would prefer her kids to run outside and get on the bus like all the other middle class American kids can do. The fact that they suddenly needed security because Michelle and her DH decided that he should try to become the POTUS and her kids were now going to live their lives in a fishbowl, targets of every crazy person and of every nasty online troll, upset her.
Congratulations for somehow twisting that into a pro gun statement. And frankly, I hope to God I never have to live in a country where all elementary school kids have to be flanked by armed guards.

I am beginning to wonder of Paul inhabits one of those parallel universes that physicists talk about.
The ones that are similar to ours, but not exactly.
One where Rush Limbaugh is a demi-god.

So we protect our money with armed guards. We have armed guards at the Courthouse. Gotta protect criminals having a trial ya know. We have security at the DNC and other events. But, for kids in school, having an armed police officer somehow makes it a police state? Oh ok. Talke about twisting drama.

All kids deserve to be protected as well. Are you sure you are aware of the definition of hypocrisy? Its when you advocate, i.e. want something for yourself that you do not want for others. I think you are seeing yet again what you want to see, instead of what's actually there. She is not happy this is the way it needs to be, but resigned. And unless you can prove otherwise, she did not say "I want my kids protected by people with guns, but I think your kids should not be."
Do any crazies want to kill your kids or kidnap them simply because you Shooby are their mother?

I know what you posted is part of the RW talking points, but some of it is massive exaggeration. Most of our money is not protected by armed guards. Many banks simply have vaults. Maybe those armed guards exist at big banks, but I have not banked anywhere that had one. Possibly ever. Courthouses really depend on how big they are I expect. The local ones here sometimes have an officer checking people in and sometimes not. They are mostly to protect the people that work there, but congrats on pretending its the criminals.
Twisting drama indeed.

I'm not religious, but I joked with my mom that Cory Booker took us to church & he even brought out his church sermon sweat towel. I loved his speech. Loved him during the filibuster. He's very a powerful speaker & gotta give him credit for being so powerful that he had Bill Clinton on his feet clapping. After last week, I wanted to see something uplifting, positive, and hopeful. i don't want to hear that we all suck & can't survive without hating others. That's not who we are and not who we should be striving to be. Michelle...her speech was just awesome. They won't be able to plagerize it because we'll never forget it. But clearly shows why the Republican speechwriters (or Miss Melly according to them) plagerized her speech. I can't wait to see Bill tonight! My first time voting ever, I voted for Bill Clinton. Definitely looking forward to hearing him. He's always been a powerful, persuasive speaker.

And the Chair person of the DNC has declined to speak at the convention. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/dnc-chair-wont-speak-at-convention-after-email-leak/vi-BBuKq56I assume she will still appear on stage and open the convention? So, it looks like the Democratic convention will have their hiccups too And yes, I know it will be a piece of white bread cake compared to the Republican convention, so let's not compare the two! What happened to diversity on the ticket? Unless you consider the VP pick as the conservative on the ticket, for balance this fall. You happened to mention diversity on the ticket. Most know Hillary Clinton is the diversity on the Democratic Party ticket-the first female presumptive presidential candidate of one of the two major political parties. How about the diversity of the speakers at the Democratic and Republican conventions? The difference between the two conventions could not be more evident. Dueling Conventions Show a Contrast on DiversityAfter Mitt Romney's loss in the 2012 presidential election, the Republican Party stressed in its so-called autopsy report that it needed to do a better job appealing to minority voters if it wanted to win national elections in the future. But comparing the diverse first night of the Democratic National Convention to last week's largely white GOP convention shows there is still a gap between the parties. The contrast in speakers was stark. Of the approximately 50 people who delivered remarks in Philadelphia at the Democratic convention, roughly half were minorities. The lineup included sitting legislators like New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison and Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings. There were athletes, like former pro basketball players Jason and Jarron Collins, DREAMers like 26-year-old Astrid Silva, and Karla and Francisca Ortiz—the mother and daughter who could be separated by deportation. And of course, first lady Michelle Obama. Complete article here: Dueling Conventions Show a Contrast on Diversity

Pretty much a mix of everyone, both sex wise and race wise.
I thought the GOP was going to try to go with the 'big tent' thing after their 2012 loss - if anything, they appear to be catering MORE to the white male crowd and actively turning their backs on the rest of us.

So what? It's pretty low on my list of concerns. But then I'm a realist, and do not respond at all to fear-mongering. Just one more reason why I would make a terrible right-winger.

It's official! History has been made! #ImWithHer Bernie sucked it up and did the right thing & did the nomination thingy at the end like she did for President Obama in 2008. Unity.

It's official! History has been made! #ImWithHer Bernie sucked it up and did the right thing & did the nomination thingy at the end like she did for President Obama in 2008. Unity. out of historical and political interest, i would like to see Sander's speech. is there a link somewhere? It was very short. He asked to suspend the roll call (even tho it was over at that time, Vermont went last) & to have all the delegates go to Hillary. Then nominated her officially. that was it & he left the building.

I think Bernie held off saying it was uncontested and having a roll call was because many of his supporters have never been to a convention. He wanted them to see how it works. It went smoothly with no contested votes like the GOP mess.
