How is it going to create more problems?
If the feds don't stand up for transgendered students, who is going to?
It's certainly not the lawmakers in my state, who think the world is going to end and the second coming of Christ is going to happen because a handful of kids in school use a bathroom for a gender they identify with, rather than the genitalia they are born with?
Cripes, these kids have much to deal with as it is. I enjoy having a nice, quiet session in the loo. Are we saying this is now only a priviledge for straight people?
And, I wonder if you were transgendered, and you couldn't use the bathroom in comfort, if you would feel the same way? What would your choices be? Would you prefer to try to hold it for 9 hours a day, until you got to a "safe" bathroom? Be subjected to bullying in private? Ask your mom to buy you Depends?

What is there to be pissed about? Sometimes I wonder if people know what the word transgender means. I guess we are afraid football players are now going to dress up like cheerleaders to use the girls locker room or something

And, why is it that we don't care that kids don't have separate bathrooms in preschool and college. We are fine that the preschools we send our kids to that have bathrooms open to kids of both genders. Shit, ours don't even have doors. Little curtain things.
One of my friends went to a school that didn't have segregated bathrooms in the dorms...
What's so special about ages 6-17 that we are all upset about?

This recent bathroom thing is so bizarre to me. I live in a pretty small town, so not "cutting edge" by any means and have worked with a few transgenders for many years. They have always (since working here) used the bathroom they identified with and it's never been any kind of an issue. I honestly don't know how it would be. Men that identify as women using the women's bathroom? Ok...so what? I've been known to use the men's room when there's too much of a line at the womens'.

I would think that transgender students have probably already been using the bathroom of the sex they identify with but I could be wrong...

I've been seeing all morning how Governor Abbott has some balls on him.
But I'm not convinced. I really think he should have to prove it before he uses the bathroom at least.

May be schools in US are different or may be children in US are different but I remember what kind of things were going on in girls' bathrooms when I was a kid. And if I had a transgender child the last I would want is for them to be subjected to more taunting/bullying in the most vulnerable place. So no, I don't think it's fed govt standing up for anyone. I think it's fed govt trying to make itself feel better by being so "inclusive" when in reality it will make it worse. I've had more than one mom telling me how their kids were holding it in and not going to the bathroom in school - those are "regular" kids. I don't think it's going to create safe bathrooms at all!

The transgender that we shared a bathroom at work, cause no problems. Meh. I also have been known at concerts and sports events to use the Men's room. Who wants to wait in a line that wraps around the building when the guys has no line.

I think it's very different when we are talking about adults. I really don't care who is in the bathroom with me. Frankly I don't want to have ANYONE in bathroom with me. I don't even like my husband in the bathroom with me and he was there for the birth of our 3 children. But when it comes to kids, it's different.

If a school doesn't make a bathroom safe, that's a problem with the school's leadership.
That's not a sexual orientation/civil rights problem.
Two completely separate issues.

Can't see how sending a person who looks and acts 'like a girl' to the boys room would save them from teasing.

There is a lot more to be pissed about if you send your kids to regular school.

That a grown man is going to say he identifies like a female to get his rocks off while he stares at women peeing. Because apparently, these men also have superman like powers, or none of the bathrooms in the conservative parts of my state have stalls.

I haven't seen any posts from formerly SK in forever. Did we run her off? I know I would have left the boards in her shoes.

I put this on Facebook a while ago... I got in trouble for posting a response to someone who posted that here. But I will say something that won't get me in trouble. I love the not so subtle racist undertones regarding black men and white women.

I've talked to her awhile ago, yes, she kind of got tired of certain things. I would be very curious to hear her take on it and how her son would feel about it. Like I said - if it was my child - I wouldn't have like this mandate at all!

I don't see how this mandate is going to change anything. The kids are going to use the bathroom they feel the most comfortable using which is probably what they have been doing all along. I went to school with a transgender back in the late 80's. He used the ladies bathroom. There is no way in hell he was going to use the boy's room. He would have been clobbered. The administration knew this 25 yrs ago and didn't force him to use the boy's room. This whole thing is just ridiculous...

You question how she would feel about having to send her son to the girls bathroom. The kid who had finally stopped having suicidal thoughts and was just beginning to feel comfortable about himself?
Personally I'm fairly sure what side she'd come down on...

Curious, do you think the government should stay out of all civil rights issues? They shouldn't have desegregated the south for instance?

How about every bathroom just have stalls? Or make all bathrooms unisex?

My friend's son was bullied in the bathroom. It had nothing to do with gender orientation and everything to do with violence and dysfunction in the school. Yup. Girls bully girls and boys bully boys in there - nothing will keep your kid 100% safe.

I find it very hypocritical that you refer to her child as her son, but would be really pissed off if he didn't use the girls bathroom. It's like you are pretending respect for someone's situation when you really don't have any. If you believe he's really just a girl playing dress up in order to go to the boys bathroom, best to just be honest about it.

Just to be sure he didn't make a change since the last time he "went" Maybe we can institute a live ball-check camera, so we can all oogle look in keeping with the public childbirth for royalty in times past. Note that I have only read about this practice and never researched its veracity, but that shouldn't stop us from instituting this now since we are sooo much more into each others business now right?
