Oh my gosh, where are you now going to school, if your moving back to Colorado ? Good luck by the way with both the move and your education.

Aurora and Springs are definitely different. I live in Aurora and have an office in CS and travel to it frequently. What is it that you miss about the Springs? There are parts of the Springs that have improved and developed but still a very small town compared to Aurora.
CCD, Red Rocks CC and ACC all work with the local universities to transfer. I'm sure you can have your transcripts evaluated for transfer eligibility of credits. Regardless, all are great education options. Your girls will also have great schools in Aurora particularly if you stay in the CCSD system.

Aurora?! No, no, no. Move to the west side. Jeffco schools, 'nuff said.
Red Rocks and Arapahoe have GT (guaranteed transfer) classes, so you know they'll transfer to the 4-years with no issue. Maybe check for GTs with other CCs?

Don't the girls want to finish high school at their current school first (friends and all)?
Are you guys thinking after they graduate high school or no, something like within the next year?

Not that I have an opinion either way but if you move and start classes in the first semester you would be an out of state student no matter where you go to school. Most states require a 12 month residency before being able to go to college and be considered in state. That means that if you move and go into CC right away you don't start that 12 month clock while you are in school. Each state has their own rules and you should check with them to make sure, in writing , that you are instate before signing up for any classes there IMO. If you really need that in state tuition and are moving anyway I wouldn't want you to shoot yourself in the foot by going to the CC in that first year unless they in writing said you are instate. Whatever you do good luck!

highered.colorado.gov/finance/residency/faq.htmlI know someone who did what you are planning on doing and no they didn't get instate tuition. They were told that they would only get it after they had lived in the state for, I think that state was 9 months. Co says 12 months. So until after you moved there and live for 12 months without taking any college classes you are considered an out of state student. Transferring the credits IMO is the easy thing to do. Getting a college to consider you instate when you transfer in from another state is going to be the hard part. And getting that Colorado univ to consider you instate after getting a transfer app from a CC that says out of state is going to be darn near impossible IMO. This is big bucks and states just don't want to lose that money to out of state students. If you can get it more power to you. I am just advising you to get the CC in writing to say they consider you instate.

I don't think I would choose aurora either. the springs is nice, but so far away from denver if you have things you think you'll want to do there. i'd look further west, and yes, jeffco is a good district for schools.

Maybe her company is moving there, she no longer has it or it's not going well. I chuckled at the last sentence in DH's first post: "There, you're all in the loop." Considering the moniker his wife used here...heh heh Good luck.

Why do you think we're suddenly talking about moving? Don't you be for worrying me! I hope you're talking about a promotion or a company move! I really miss Loop's posts, darn it! Never see that woman here anymore! Seriously, this does come as a surprise but if you have family there, it might be a great thing to get back nearer them. Having my kids nearby has meant so much to me. We're a close family and that's a good thing to have whether things are going well or not. I just hope it's for the very best of reasons. You guys have had enough rough spots in your road. You're really due some good stuff!

By the way ... I love looking for houses! We expect to be informed where WE will be seeking a home so those of us like me will have the opportunity to pore through the MLS listings for just the right place!

If Loop's company transferred her they may get out-of-state right away.
When DS was applying to colleges we lived in NJ but were planning to move to KS for my job after he graduated. According to K-State's Web site, the fact that I'd been transferred by my employer qualified us for in-state immediately. They asked that we include a copy of my offer letter with the application, which I did. I have to add that after surrendering that bit of personal information, their acceptance letter said DS would be out-of-state. He decided to go to Drake instead so I didn't bother fighting them.

So Loop or You don't have a job lined up yet...
I would start there first (aka getting a job lined up). Whoever gets a job first get to move there while the spouse stays behind to sell the house and tie loose ends.

I don't have a job lined up, but I kind of do. I'm currently getting paid to be a full time student. Uncle Sam will cut me a monthly check to attend any college in the country. So, we both would kinda sorta have a job if we moved. And, nevermind. No more thinking about it. Loop just got the email. We're moving to Colorado, unless she wants to find a different job here. Grrr... one night to sleep on it. Bastards. We were both leaning that way anyway, but a little more notice would have been appreciated. Fuck... I have to do so much little crap around the house now. New carpets, refinishing the hardwood, some landscaping, probably exterior paint, some minor updating in the kitchen and bathrooms, interior painting to make everything neutral again, deep clean absolutely everything, wash the windows, check all the gutters... houses suck. The good news is that they like her so much that her employer would rather transfer her than lose her. Cost of living is lower in the Denver area and it is beautiful there. I would love to find a job in that neck of woods. Will loops employer be offering a relocation package? I'm planning on selling in the spring, so I can sympathise with your to do list. I'm busy working on a lot of the same stuff.

Is buying right off the bat a good idea? Would CO be your new semi-permanent home? What if you hate it, or things don't work out? Renting for a year might allow you to at least have one less stressful thing to do while establishing yourselves in a new place. Plus, those CO winters are going to be a real change from what you are used to.

With the way the market is in CA especially around you, I would just deep clean and paint if needed - I don't think anything else will be needed, if you consider pricing it just right. Good luck with your move.

Her position here lasts through the end of the month. She could take a different position in Denver at that time, (roughly, they'll give us some time to get moved) if we're willing to move to Denver. Denver, Colorado is a beautiful city! Granted I only visited and never lived there but I enjoyed my time there. Seems there was a lot of construction going on when I was there, a lot of new buildings etc. Are you guys thinking about living in Denver or outside?

I lived in Boulder for 35 years and regret that I moved back to Iowa. What was I thinking?
House buying is crazy in Colorado right now, with houses going for more than asking price in hours after appearing on the MLS.
There are some areas of Aurora to stay away from but your brother will help you steer clear of those. Jeffco is great and I love Boulder, although it is way out of my price range now.
I'm jealous. Good luck.

Dumb question, but is her job that good that you would uproot and move to a new state in a month? How is the job market in your area? Can loop readily find a new job locally?
I would move if I absolutely had to but not without exploring all other options first.

Some good news. House for sale next door just sold. They had it listed at 495k, and got 545k for it. They did put granite in the kitchen, new wood flooring throughout, and added a deck in the backyard. It's otherwise pretty similar to ours, same cabinets, built ins, and vanities, so it looks like we won't have to update the house too much before listing. Theirs is 300 sq ft larger, and a 4 bedroom, but two stories. Ours is a 3 bedroom single story, same corner lot size. Not sure how that works as a comp given the differences. Two stories aren't as desirable here because the upper floor gets hot. The extra bedroom and updates add value though. We owe 262k on our house and thought it would sell around 450k. Might be worth more like 500k though when we get done updating it. Not sure how much to deduct for the difference in size and room number. Oh, their house was on the market 19 days. Other recent sale in the neighborhood is 300 sq ft smaller than ours. Mid block. On the market 20 days, and sold for 450k. Also had updated flooring but original tile countertops in kitchen and bathrooms. Okay so I had to sneak a peek at houses in Aurora. The good news it is seems that houses are cheaper there but what seems to be a fair amount. I wish you both lots of luck, although moving seems to be yucky.

Aurora is a big city, and that's the part of Aurora I wouldn't live in. Not sure where Dark's brother lives in the city, but I'd recommend more southeast.
