Not if you cook and bake. I have always had laminate. It cleaned up quite nicely. Tile with grout. Ick. Try rolling out dough on tile. Yeah, I don't think so.
Just pull out the cutting board and use it to roll out dough. That is what I have always done. Works just fine.
I don't have a cutting board big enough for making cinnamon rolls.

Iggy's summary is good, but Aurora is a very big city. Yes, avoid anything along Colfax, but there is a large portion that is essentially suburbia and is just fine. Where Dark's brother is located is a wonderful area. Great schools (I think CCSD is the top district in the state, could be rivaling Douglas County now), very low crime and family friendly. Yea, I'm bias as I have lived in this area my whole life, attended schools in this area my whole life, and am raising my own family there. And I'd rather hang out around Colfax than in other areas of the state. Dark, feel free to Pm me with questions. I'm selling our home in that area soon too

Yes, it really is a big city. According to Wiki: "The Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area had an estimated population of 2,645,209* on July 1, 2012 (the 21st most populous MSA in the U.S.)." Too much traffic for this kid. * Not including the illegals, LOL!

So lets see, Moneymaven will sell her house to Dark. IG will handle your insurance needs. The kids will be in public schools so that's ok and your wife's got a job. All that's left for you Dark, is to pack up everyone's stuff, update and sell the house and then follow them out there.

Count me in as one who would rather have nice new clean laminate instead of tiles on the counter. I pull it all the way out and lay it on the counter. Wash when done and slide it back in. My mom has always done it that way. When I was a young adult I had laminate counters, but did the cutting board thing anyway. Mom did it that way, so to me that was just how it was done.

Oh heck I just came on this thread & saw discussion of tile vs laminate & thought we were talking about flooring. I would never do tile on the countertop nor would I ever roll dough on the kitchen floor.

I had meeting scheduled for all Wednesday morning last week, so I put them together Sunday night and refrigerated them, baked them Tues night and frosted them Wednesday morning and brought them to the meeting. Made the meeting much better.

Can somebody from the area tell me why the price difference is so large between the north and south side of Quincy in the Eaglecrest high school district? The houses are roughly the same size, similar layouts, yards look about the same size. What am I missing? Perhaps it's relation to Cherry Creek?

Also, maybe due to newer construction and possibly amenities per neighborhood (pools, etc)

The south side has much newer homes. The north side appears to be late 70s/early 80s construction. People will pay a premium for something newer.

You can also get PE credits from your after school sports. It's a big school, very diverse, my kids have friends from all walks of life. AP classes are top notch, my daughter graduated last year with almost a full year of college credits. My son is a 10th grader and has learning disabilities and he is doing great, he's not taking on quite as much as my daughter but still some AP and Honors courses. Teachers are happy, a few have even been there since it opened 20+ years ago, a few are former students who've come back to teach. My daughter's dream is to teach English there. What activities are your kids into? My DD also commutes from here to UCDenver, it's about an hour via car/lightrail. She drives there one day a week for her internship, about 35/40 minutes. My kids are into digital art, game programming, nerd stuff (anime conventions, Dr Who, etc), swimming, guitar club at their current high school is the thing they say they'll miss the most when we move. I don't know, typical teen girl stuff I guess. [br They will fit in fine, that's what the kids are into around these parts too

My choice of the two - a pool can be a real PIA.

I just like the house without the pool better.

My choice of the two - a pool can be a real PIA. I would probably want the pool, too, because we actually use them in the summer, but I agree, PITA if you also have an outdated house to spend your time and money on. If it were me, I would choose house number 2, because it looks like it has been updated recently. Plus you can always add a pool yourself, there are a lot of options out there now.

#2. Better area, good outdoor area and you're within minutes of the new(ish) rec center with an awesome pool and lazy river.

I agree with the others, #2 is much nicer. Yes Southeast Aurora is a nice area. Welcome to CO! We look forward to having you in our beautiful state! Maybe Moonie and I will get to meet you and the family.

LMAO! Have you ever been to CO? We do get temps into the 90's and sometimes 100's from May through Sept.
