It sounds like an accountant thing. That sounds about right for me. And...AND I don't even get the shakes, haven't since I downed about three pots worth during a study session in college. The only time I got the shakes was when I was studying for an exam in college and ate a 1/4 pound of chocolate covered espresso beans. I don't think those buzz bits are any good for much else, personally. At least they got you through an exam.

It is a 2011 Honda Odyssey. I think the value is in the $20k range. Ah, that makes sense. My 2006 Dodge Caravan is rapidly qualifying as a beater. I scraped paint on the driver's side front quarter panel yesterday parking in our garage. We're not going to discuss the crumbs and pine needles in it. Nope, not going there. That's all you've got? I had to take my car into the shop for some normal maintenance and to replace head gaskets. I didn't get everything: but I removed a serving spoon, DD2's jacket, pencils, church bulletins, and artwork. I didn't get a chance to grab the barbie outfit, DD2's boots, and my gloves, amongst other things. I think I had a few comic books in there, too...

Where's the melted crayon in the carpet? Nowhere? I win! I don't even know what's beyond the driver's area of the van and you can't make me find out.

I was cleaning out my hell hole of a car one day when the girls were little and found a crab rangoon in the door. Don't even want to know how long it had been there.
My car is much cleaner these days since they are bigger. Hell, hardly anyone other than me is ever in the car.

I did learn on another thread, 4 kids is better than 3 A few of my friends say seven is optimal... Are they on valium 24/7? And if I was ArchietheDragon 's wife I'd be triple bagging it... 4 kids would make me homicidal.

I think it depends on the type of kid you get. We could totally handle 4 of DS. If DD2 would have come first, we would have been a one and done family.

One is fine. Archie is talking about 12 cups a day. I assume he's joking...of course. I mean, after the seventh cup or so, he'll be swinging from the office light fixtures, shouting, "THE NUMBERS ARE ALL OUT TO GET ME! SOMEBODY CALL THE PAYROLL POLICE!" By the tenth cup, he'll be a tabloid headline: "Naked father of three rescued from cliff; claims he was 'buzzed enough' to fly to Mars" Not joking, too much. Depending on the day, I could have 2-3 cups at home and 6-8 cups at work. Holy shit balls! My caffeine obsession is nervous for you.

(Maybe if we had started 10 years earlier and made better money.). I have a 2 yo right now, so even my desire for another is dropping. Damn kid is so stubborn, and he absolutely freaked out last night when a fly got in the house. Maybe the 3rd would be the charm? Naaaa....

I'm 42, single, with no kids. But I recently helped my parents refinance their house - so in that sense they are dependent on my income. So I've taken out life insurance, through my employer I have a policy of 2x my annual salary for about 8$ a month. It just gives me peace of mind. And them too, actually.

Which baffles me. Kid watched at least half of the first Avengers and was fine. Has a crush on the Hulk. But Ants!

ArchietheDragon I got read the riot act this weekend about my excessive coffee drinking & DD has put me on a new regimen. I have to drink my coffee without sugar, which makes it a lot less pleasant. And I have to drink a tumbler of ice water in between each cup of coffee, because I don't drink enough water (except in coffee form which apparantly does not count). I am on day 4 of this and it is reducing the amount of coffee I drink and it hasn't done me in. Maybe you can try something like this. I hope you can find ways to reduce your stress level and keep safe. Maybe time to reduce your commitments if you and wife are both exhausted.

My 1st was def a one and done kid but for many (some irrational) reason I really really really wanted 2. Well DD is/was a little easier but only a little. I must have hit the kid jackpot.

I'm pretty sure I'm done... Mostly because I'm lazy and DS feels like 2 kids sometimes. I also want to give DS the life I wish I had full of varied, rich experiences and that can cost money.

My tiny violin is broken right now, or I'd play My Heart Bleeds For You. I was about to post "the world's tiniest violin" but we'll go with yours!!! And why do I think Archie is pulling our collective legs - just me being skeptic again?

Shouldn't you have had 1 million in EF money before your wife took a year off? Maybe in 1975. You need at LEAST $2 million these days.

Finally found out my bonus. $8500. That is a big load off. I should be able to pay back my daughter, pay the $1k deductible on the van and start building up the EF again.

That's great news! Trust me, you don't want to go through that again. Living on the edge (even temporarily) sucks. You really do need to get life insurance. I know it's hard for you to think about that, but you need to get over it. If you think that's hard, please imagine for a minute how hard it would be for your parents to have to support your family in their old age, while dealing with your loss. Gd forbid!!! With three young kids, you really really need to bite that bullet, Archie. And no regrets about the chairs. With three kids, family and friends, trust me, you don't want upholstered dining room chairs, unless they are only for show, never to be used. You could always do what my mom did while I was growing up, cover everything in plastic or towels and declare the LR/DR "off limits" except for the occasional guest.

That was my best friend's house when I was little. They had the "den" where God forbid you bring anything in and make any kind of mess. At least her mom didn't do the plastic on the furniture but I could have done without the doilies. I hate those things. If I recall correctly, she did have the plastic runners though. Those were a pain in the ass too.

I will second, third, and quadruple the life insurance. My dad died six months after I got married and he had some damn good life insurance. Wasn't a necessity at that time but it did come in handy to pay off his home equity loan and the insurance that gets jacked up for an empty house, especially in the city I grew up in. He had that much insurance as a just-in-case if we needed to go live with my mom when we were minors. He wanted to make sure we were taken care of, even if we were adults. Get the insurance. Don't wait.
I would much rather have my dad but I don't get that option. At least the money helped to take care of things while we said good-bye.

ArchietheDragon, I will join the chorus of people telling you to get life insurance. You don't have to be in perfect health. I am far from it. I used accuquote and the only part that wasn't handled online was the visit from the "nurse" or whatever she is to get a blood sample, etc. I actually think he/she will come to your place of employment if necessary.
I bought mine at age 55 because I was remarrying. DH had gotten rid of obligations like a house so I wanted to make sure he didn't have to deal with it. You buy insurance for other people, not yourself.

Please protect your family by getting some life insurance.
