I feel like tloonya. Next month I will probably have to borrow money from my daughter to pay the bills. We had a lager than normal credit card expense in April due to going on vacation (which in retrospect, probably was not the wisest idea) which will wipe our savings account down to $600. We have been running a negative monthly cash flow of about $1500 (not counting the vacation, so next month I don't think we will have the cash to cover it. I don't want to sell investments. I already stopped our ROTH contributions, but don't want to stop my 401k contribution. At least my daughter has about $2500 that I can borrow and the other kids have another $1500 or so if we need it. My wife said she starts getting paid again starting in July. I really hope that is true. Kids suck.

You have to do what you have to do to put food on the table. Why doesn't the wife get paid until July? Can one of you get a weekend job for a bit?

I did that once to pay property taxes. I would make a plan (once your DW is back to work) to pay back what you are borrowing over 6 months or a year. I also might let the balance ride on the CC a little longer. July is two months away, how much will two months of interest cost you?

Wait until they hit college age, they will suck you dry. Although, they are the best investment I ever made, I'm sure they will repay me when I'm old...

When I was a teen, my parents borrowed money from me a lot. For things like gas, or groceries. $20 here, $40 there. Not quite the same as $2500, though I'd have let them borrow that much too. I learned early about the power of interest-Oh, you want to borrow $20 til Friday? Sure, but come Friday, you'll actually owe me $25. Yes, mom, it will cost you to borrow from me

She starts back at her job (teaching) at the end of August, but because of the way they pay she said she starts getting her salary in July...

What did you do with your tax return money? With all those babies you should be making bank Personally, I'd be teaching myself a lesson over this one & sell the investments. I made it a policy never to raid the kids' money, no matter how broke I felt. I think it is a bad habit to get into. It isn't your money. Now get thee over to a debt elimination board and get yourself back on track!!!

My mom borrowed a similar amount from my younger sister about 10 years ago... although I'm not sure if "borrowed" is the right word, since my sister had some pointed questions when she saw her bank account balance was about half of what it should have been. (The accounts were all linked to my mom's so it was easy for her to transfer back and forth). I'm pretty sure it got paid back eventually but I know better than to ask about it Anyway, if the kids are young enough they don't know they even have money, as long as it's repaid in a timely manner I wouldn't worry about it much -- unless it becomes a pattern. And your kids are too cute to suck

I even started washing and ironing my own shirts to save a little money and I have been bringing my own lunch. Sacrificing sucks, too.

I don' want to generate taxable income if I don't have to.

Shouldn't you have had 1 million in EF money before your wife took a year off?
