What if it's just you? How is your wife supposed to manage? Sell house? Live in parents basement? It doesn't cost that much. Certainly not a hundred a month even for both of you and both of you need it.

Seriously Archie, life insurance is not a lot of money. Cut out 3-4 meals out in restaurant a month and it is more than paid for.

There's always an excuse. I'd rather have not paid almost $300 for DD's renters insurance. But I'll sure be glad if something major happens and they stroke her a check to replace everything less 500 bucks.

Yeah, I get where you are coming from. You want to stop bleeding money right now which is completely understandable. Your wife getting a paycheck starting next month should put a bandage on it.

Yes, you'll be dead. But think about how having a resentful caretaker will impact your children? After they have already lost their parents? And I'm with minnesotapaintlady, I hope to pay way more in insurance premiums than I ever benefit from insurance. That's a good problem to have.

I hope he listens to the wake up call he just had. I have. I have upped my coffee intake to 12 cups a day. Make a few of those Cuban or espressos, and I would pay to watch your reaction times.

I have a trenta sized coffee from home every morning. Sometimes if I'm really dragging I'll have something else small around lunch.

I assume he's joking...of course. I mean, after the seventh cup or so, he'll be swinging from the office light fixtures, shouting, "THE NUMBERS ARE ALL OUT TO GET ME! SOMEBODY CALL THE PAYROLL POLICE!" By the tenth cup, he'll be a tabloid headline: "Naked father of three rescued from cliff; claims he was 'buzzed enough' to fly to Mars"

Depending on the day, I could have 2-3 cups at home and 6-8 cups at work.

I mean, if you're trying for #4, that's one thing. (BTW, there is no scientific evidence that coffee in any amount lessens sperm count. But the caffeine can increase the little buggers' movement speed).

Might as well pile on. DH and I are really glad we got life insurance years ago. He has since been diagnosed with two autoimmune disorders that would raise the rates considerably and that's if he could be insured. Our housekeepers husband has recently been diagnosed with one of the disorders that DH has. He found up when he went to the ER passing chunks of his kidney. Unlike us they have three kids and don't have life insurance. Sound familiar? Her husband is likely to be on dialysis within the next five years. He's 38. Scenario 1: You drop dead tomorrow. Your wife has to tap the retirement accounts immediately for funeral costs and basic bills. She continues to drain them slowly over the next several years trying to keep things "normal" for the kids and not be a burden to the grandparents. Eventually they are empty and your kids end up with no help for college, buying a house, or life. In fact they worry about how to help their mom when she retires. Scenario 2: You get life insurance and drop dead. Your wife uses the money to pay off the mortgage. With the extra cash flow from paying off the mortgage and SS and life insurance she's able to avoid tapping the retirement accounts. The kids get to live in the house they grew up in. Your wife retires and isn't a burden on the kids. It sucks to think about it. I get that. But I love my family and I don't want things to change more than they have to if DH or I die. I don't want them to be forced out of the house we're living in. I don't want DS to not be able to participate in the activities he is used to. I don't want him to have to stop going to the school that he loves if his parents die. Yeah, I wrote out instructions for family last fall, before DH and I left for my conference in Vegas. I knew it wouldn't stand in court but figured it would state our wishes, should anything happen to us. We really need to get a will. If both parents die, would minor dependents get a check from both parents under SS or would they take the higher income one and call it a day?

And...AND I don't even get the shakes, haven't since I downed about three pots worth during a study session in college.

Okay, I actually don't drink coffee but if I take two excedrin migraine my hands get shaky and I feel kind of strange. Unfortunately, that is the only thing that seems to work for me when I have a headache. If I develop a headache past 3PM I just have to suffer because if I take excedrin that late in the day I won't sleep that night. It is better for me to just go home, knock myself out with benedryl and sleep it off. I suppose I have extremely low tolerance since I don't drink coffee, tea or sodas.

Dear God Archie, that's possibly the most vile thing I've every seen you post. Those things are indescribably horrible. Wow, $9K in damages and they're not totaling it? What's the value/what kind of van?

Archie, I can't believe your wife is remotely ok with you not having life insurance and vice versa. You have young children. It's asinine. Seriously. Both of you need it. No one is going to care for your children out of the goodness of their hearts if she dies and if you die, who is going to support 4 people and send 3 to college or trade school? Both sets of your parents? I can see huge resentment by siblings if grandparents of your children are paying for their care because you didn't bother caring for them yourself. They can be resentful. We will be dead. True, but one day your kids will be dead too and they might engage Dante to create a 10th circle of hell just for you . So get the bloody insurance already and work it into your cash flow!

I scraped paint on the driver's side front quarter panel yesterday parking in our garage. We're not going to discuss the crumbs and pine needles in it. Nope, not going there.
