Has anyone ever made their own jerky. I love jerky... but don't love the processed stuff. My FIL gave me his dehydrator this weekend so I thought I would give it a try. Any tips? I need to keep protein handy... and until I can get over my issues with nuts, this may be the way to go.
Back to the grind now! Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday!

Sent from my SM-G920T using proboards I used to make my own beef jerky. At the time I wasn't concerned with my diet and I used a lot of high sodium stuff to marinade the meat. My only tip is to use the lowest fat meat you can and really slice the meat very thin, and then you just have to try different flavor combinations to find what you like.

sarcastic: Congrats on the weight loss. That's awesome! ners: congrats on hitting your step goal for the month. That's pretty amazing! Well, I forgot to set my alarm when I went to bed last night, so I didn't wake up in time to workout this morning. And the weather sucks today, so I probably won't get in a lunchtime walk. AND, we are having friends over tonight for drinks/appetizers, of which I will probably have too much of. I'm going to pretend today isn't happening and get back to my routine tomorrow. I'm trying to convince myself that in the scheme of things, this is only one day and I may as well enjoy the fact that I got an extra hour of much needed sleep and that DH and I have some amazing friends and it will be fun to have everyone over tonight!

Stocked up on fresh fruit, my best defense against my sweet tooth. The "Halo" oranges are awesome. I read that maximum "added sugars" per day should not exceed 24 grams (for women). My old "go to" afternoon treat was a Starbucks Mocha ready made in a bottle, which has 31 grams of sugar YIKES! My new end of day treat/reward is usually a gala apple with a spoonful of peanut butter. Gradually feeling less sluggish. Today is day 18, with only 3 concessions, average of 1 about every 6 days. This seems realistic, like I could maintain this level. ETA: Thank you to the WIR Fit person who mentioned 3 weeks making the noticeable difference. Today is 3 weeks of avoiding refined sugar, and yep I'm feeling better. Note to self: sugary food is an occasional dessert...not a food group

I'm keeping up with my weight lifting pretty well, but yesterday I pinched my little finger in the weight plates, and half of the tip is black and blue. DH is off work today so I am going to make him go on a long walk with me and the dogs.
Then I need to stop by the doctor's office to get some immunization stuff filled out for school. A nurse was supposed to call me back yesterday to put the order in for the blood draw and titer and let me know what I was already good on, but it didn't happen.
My diet has been pretty good. Yesterday I made a big pot of beans with a little bit of pork, brown sugar, and tomato paste. They were so good we ate nearly the entire pot in one day! I cooked them from 2.5 cups dry so it must have been 7 or 8 cups cooked, and we have about 1.5 cups left. I'm a little embarrassed by that actually. I'm going to be cooking more beans today, probably red lentils. I haven't gone bean crazy, but I'm trying to use up all we have before we move. I still have a bunch left.

ners congrats on your progress! I'm going to use Monday as my weigh in too. Hope tomorrow brings a good report. I'm still doing well with sugar limiting... not as well as when I started, but under the 24 gram daily recommended maximum. When the season of abundant homemade desserts has passed I will try to tighten back up. It is worth it. bobosensei You are definitely on the bean wagon I hope your finger is recovering quickly, and is not causing you much pain anymore.

I have been maintaining at around 185/186 for several weeks now. It is hard, around the holidays to keep the dairy, eggs, flour and sugar to a minimum. I am doing okay though, thus far. Basically, my plan for the next two weeks is to just maintain. I have been working long hours and we have had a lot of family drama and business because of the season. Right now I feel like trying to drop 5 pounds by the end of the month is just too much. Maintaining and trying to find balance is the best I can do right now.

My finger got better really quickly which surprised me with how bruised it was.
I'm keeping up with my weight lifting just fine, but things are speeding up with my move which might mess with my diet. Today I am dropping my car off for shipping. I am hoping to get it before the scheduled 6 weeks. It was really lucky timing that we stopped into the shipping place last friday because we found out today was the last day for cars to be accepted to go out until January 7th! So that is taking up 3-4 hours of my day today, and then DH and I will be juggling with 1 vehicle which means I'll likely be spending up to an hour a day shuttling him to and from work on days where I have to have the truck for something. As we are eating down the pantry I find we are going to the store nearly daily for ingredients because I have not been willing to do the kind of grocery shopping I normally do. We are saving a bunch of money this way, and wasting a lot less food but it is a pain.
I will be in Reykjavik, Iceland the week of Christmas. Not sure what the food will be like, but we will be eating out which I normally don't do so that in itself will cause me to gain even if I am making reasonable choices.

Missed step goal by over 7000.
I am dropping my weekly step goal to 72,500 since I failed to meet my goal for the last 2 weeks.
I think I a going to try to maintain this week. Get up a take a short walk whenever I feel the urge to stress eat. Work has been a bit crazy and that does not look like this will change anytime soon.

Suffice to say I missed my step goal by a lot this week.
Did well on not stress eating.
This week goal 70000 steps. Try not to gain much with the upcoming holidays. Do not stress eat.

woo hoo ners that is "pert near" 5 full pounds!!!!! (That's country talk for "pretty nearly") I'm down by 2.2 pounds in a little over 5 weeks, which isn't a fast pace, but certainly a nice benefit and encouraging/motivating. At a smidge over 5 feet tall every pound makes a difference, and 5 pounds is a difference of a pants size. So I'm doing pretty well on watching sugar intake, especially for the season. Feeling happy about being mindful, rather than mindless in my eating.

forwardwego Slow but sure will win this race. The first step stop the gaining, next step start the weight loss. You are on step two. Step three keep off the weight. (I failed on step three this year so I needed to go back to step two.) Keep up the good work.

I said I was going stop by more often and I didn't!
It was good to catch up - everyone seems to be moving along and preparing for the holidays. Thanks to diet changes, supplements and limiting gluten and dairy, I have lost 10 pounds!! And, thanks to the stomach virus that knocked me flat on my back Saturday, I've lost an additional 3 pounds! So at the moment I am 13.4 pounds down and I couldn't be happier about it. Well, maybe a little happier if I could have my cheese and yogurt back... I appreciated the discussion y'all had about sugar. I still have sugar - in moderate amounts - but I really do feel like I need to quit it cold turkey for awhile to let my taste buds adjust. I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Maybe in the new year?

Hi ladies!!! Hope that everyone had a good holiday! I, for one, am glad it is over and life can settle back down to normal. We traveled for a week and there were several dinners out with friends in addition to two "Christmas dinners" my allergies are killer since I indulged in some dairy and lots of bread. Never-ending that the weather is CRAZY and making the allergies worse. I am making it my plan in 2016 to really focus on my body. I will work on strength and flexibility. Yoga yoga yoga! I start back with my chiropractor next week because my body is a mess. I need to do my part already. I have been slacking majorly and it is time to make myself a priority!
What is your 2016 fitness goal?

Did not think it was possible. I missed step goal by more this week. My sinuses have been killing me lately and killing my motivation.
Did not do well on the weight. Ate way too much on Christmas day.
11/16/2015 172 11/23/2015 170 11/30/2015 170.4 12/07/2015 168.8 12/14/2015 168.6 12/21/2015 167.4 12/28/2015 169
This week I may travel for a few days so the step goal will 60000.
My goals for 2016 will be to get back on track. Step goal for year will be 3.5 million.
Have a happy new year everyone.
