@pinkcshmere, hope DGD feels better soon, what an ordeal!
I have to get back on track. Not just bc I want to look better. Not just bc I want to fit into my clothes. I just went thru a week long emotional eating binge where I'd consume a container of ice cream a night but I read that better nutrition helps heal. I have to do this. So my new diet .... and yes it is a diet ... not just a way of life right now. I said I'd do this b4 but now I have to:
B: coffee, high protein low sugar bar, fruit
L: herb tea, dairy, protein, veggie
D: herb tea or water, dairy, protein, veggie, fruit
No more: added sugar, bleached flour, processed foods
It's going to be hard

Did not hit my step goal for last week. it was 1500 higher than week before.
Week at work was not good. Might have to update the resume . That makes it even more important to lose a few pounds.
This weeks goal will be 70,000 steps and at least 3 days of doing some kind of core strengthening.
Feeling very lazy today. Well off to get in a few steps.
Have a great week everyone.

Thanks Ombud. She seems to be doing fine so far. She's a tough little cookie. I don't want to get carried away and say I'm back on track again, but I finally got back on my bike and rode 20 miles again this morning. My friend that use to ride with me went this time. Having someone cheering you on or doing the same thing really does help when motivation is lacking. It was great to ride with him again, because he's such a good sport and so funny. They're connecting a lot of the trails in the area and we rode a newer connection that has bike lanes on the street and goes through a rougher part of town toward the middle of the city. A news van drove up and asked my friend if he'd do an interview. They wanted to do an interview about cycling and safety. He kept telling them to ask me, I kept riding and shaking my head no. He declined. When he caught back up with me, I told him I thought they were being funny asking him to do an interview on bicycle safety. He would've looked like an idiot talking about safety on tv when he refuses to wear a helmet lol. That probably wasn't the kind of safety they wanted to talk about though. A 60yo cyclist was shot the other night, riding not far from where we were. As far as I understand, a car almost hit him, he got into an argument with whoever was in the car and they shot him. I think he's in non-critical condition. Still, kind of scary. Anyhoo, that's all I have today.

I'm back home after a weekend with family. I didn't do horrible diet wise. Exercise wise, well..... maybe we shouldn't talk about that. LOL. I averaged over 8000 steps a day, so not awful, but they were slow, meandering steps. The scale didn't go up, so that's a good sign. I feel sluggish though.
Oh well, tomorrow another day. I'll do better tomorrow. I bought lettuce, and hummus, and a apples and bananas and a few other healthy type things at the store. So I'm at least set up for a good week this week!
Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend!

Hey everyone! I guess I should check in too. Progress has slowed, as I mentioned before because I have been mainlining dark chocolate and potato chips. A few times, they made up half of my calories for the day! I suppose there could be worse things. At least it a nice dark chocolate and plain chips with sea salt. But still... PMS has been killer and I have to cut back. Tonight I roasted chicken, made green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy from scratch. I have enough for 2 lunches this week. So yummy. I am off to Texas on Thursday to visit family for a long weekend! Normally I am so excited to be able to go eat the wonderful foods I love and miss... But so much dairy is involved, I don't think I will indulge. Maybe a kolache or two from my favorite place. Weight is dropping maybe 1/2 a pound a week... I need to step it up. My activity has been down a bit... I still have quite a few new clothing items that are a bit too snug to wear that I want to be wearing soon. And by next month, I want to be able to shop for some smaller tops. I need my top to shrink... Gotta get down to business!

Back from BBQ. Only 1 can diet soda (no water there!), raw veggies, 1 veggie hot dog unfortunately with bun. Overall not too bad. 100° here so came home to herbal ice tea

I'm down 1.5 pounds from my starting weight last week, but down about 3 pounds from my highest point in the week. I expected to see a bigger loss, but it is what it is and at least I am continuing in the right direction. My diet has been much healthier, but I am getting bored with the same recipes. Luckily cold weather has set in and I can start making great soups and stews. The winter squashes are starting to appear in the stores and it is exciting to think of new things to eat. We bought what is likely our last pint of strawberries yesterday, but I am looking forward to great pears and a bit later oranges and grapefruit.
I might start going back to the gym for cardio 3 days a week. I can deal with the cold, but we are getting regular rain showers and I can't do cold and wet. And the snow starts here as early as mid October so I probably only have a month of biking left and that is hit or miss with the rain. And I'm lifting weights again. Starting much lower than before, but doing the stronglifts program (5 sets 5 reps, alternating days of squat/bench press/row and squat/overhead press/dead lift). We have some fractional plates now so I can make more reasonable progression. I'm taking this slow too, and probably for the next couple of weeks I'll go an extra day for recovery.

@pinkcshmere - 20 miles! way to get back to it! flamingo- getting prepped for the week is more than half the battle. you have set yourself up for success! I am off tomorrow for a long weekend with the family- here's hoping I come back able to say "my diet wasn't horrible!" @patstab- you have a ton of stress right now, so your body is probably holding on to pounds as a result. I would say- take care of you. don't worry about the scale. bobosensei- great job with the weight lifting. I always find that while it may slow moving on the scale, it makes me shrink faster! I am still working on getting into a routine with DH. we still need extra recovery days because OUCH! so- I am now 6 pounds away from my driver's license weight! when I got that license it was off by over 30 pounds. So OMG! I kind of feel some major victory with that one!

I'll check in too! I saw the nutrionist last week. We discussed my eczema flare up and how it coincided with me needing to use my inhalor more. Her eyebrows got higher and higher as she said that your skin and lungs are connected to your colon. So if you are experiencing problems, it points to an imbalance in the colon. Who knew! So she asked me to wean off of dairy and gluten for a month. I'm trying this week, but I didn't have time to plan or shop over the holiday weekend, so I'll try to go 100% next week after shopping. Honestly, dairy will be harder!! So far I am gluten free today, but I had a small piece of cheese and half a Greek yogurt today. I need more snack ideas. She also has some supplements that she wants me to take, but not until I'm done breastfeeding my daughter. We are getting close to weaning, so I'll probably start them in a couple of weeks. I ate terribly all weekend because my parents were in town, but back in the saddle today.

I ate terribly all weekend because my parents were in town, but back in the saddle today. I am dairy free and gluten free too, as you know. snacks for me are nuts, different flavored hummus (black bean!) - check the label if you buy them, sometimes they have wheat. I can't eat eggs, but if you can, hard boiled eggs are good snacks. I eat quite a bit more rice than I used to... I buy the steamer bags of jasmine rice from TJs. when I need salty foods, I eat plain kettle chips with sea salt and eat them with some prosciutto or salami or turkey etc. I'm not going to lie- that was my dinner last night because I wasn't terribly hungry. Oh- and snyder's of hanover makes really good gluten free pretzels. Dairy is HARD to give up... it is so easy and convenient. string cheese, yogurt, cheese, cheese cheese! i find myself eating more FAT... seriously, I have 2 slices of bacon every single morning usually along with some rice or fruit or granola. also- for some reason I have no problem with BUTTER. so I still eat butter.

Good pointers sarcastic!! I was going to ask you. I have started eating nuts more. And bacon! =) I can do hard boiled eggs sometimes, not every day though. I may look into goat's milk cheese for cooking some. I'm hoping that this won't be permanent, but who knows!

As a serious dairy lover... specifically CHEESE- if *I* can do it. anyone can. it sucks... but it is possible.

I ate terribly all weekend because my parents were in town, but back in the saddle today. I am a reformed dairy fiend too. I've posted here before about how after I cut dairy my monthly period cramps disappeared. And the longer I stay away from it the less I miss it. I don't care for milk, but half and half for coffee and cheese for any occasion were my weaknesses. I weaned from the half and half by using almond milk. Now I am weaning from coffee completely. Once the sugar and half and half are gone it turns out I don't want to spend hours on the couch sipping cup after cup of it. And I just had to stop buying cheese. Now we have it in the house again- blue, parm, feta, and some stuff from switzerland, but I don't even look at it when I make a salad. I am not willing to test whether I can do the same with cheddar as that was always my favorite. In sandwiches I am replacing cheese and mayo with thinly sliced avocado, and I will thin out tahini with lemon juice to drizzle over it. For snacks there is always fruit, veggies and hummus, a slice of bread (or fruit) with peanut butter, granola bar, nuts or seeds, you can make a quick veggie wrap with either meat or beans, and in cold weather I usually have a pot of soup around and you can heat a cup of in the microwave in a pinch. Depends on what you need the snack for, but at home I just eat whatever leftovers if I need something before meal time just in a smaller amount. And I don't carry snacks with me when I go out usually from poor planning but I will just suffer through the hunger, but if I had to pack something I would do fruit or nuts because they are easy to transport and I feel less likely to be eaten when you get stressed but aren't actually in need of food. Once I stopped it with the cheese I found I wasn't constantly swinging through the kitchen to get myself something. I'm just as enticed by chips and pretzels so we don't keep them in the house. Otherwise I will just eat the whole package whether I needed the snack or not. Good luck. You really can do this!

bobosensei, sarcasticgirl, and missk82, it's hard for me to get dairy other than cream / ice cream but maybe I shouldn't try so hard? Then again, how to guarantee enough Vitamin D? Also hard to get my fruit in. Inhaling raw veggies but not so much on the fruit. Huge bowl of figs in fridge but no idea how to fix them

missk82, I hope you do let us know how things go when you cut out the dairy and the gluten. I don't have anything new to share. I'm still riding my bike. I did get up to 18mph briefly (very briefly!) on flat ground, so that was something new. I'd only ever gone that fast or faster going down a hill lol.

My Dh's aunt will be coming next week from Clovis - I hope she brings some figs from her garden. She adds them to her breakfast smoothies - just one though since it's too sweet.

Do you have reason to believe your vitamin D level is low? If you've been tested and it is low, there are supplements. It's hard to get enough vitamin D solely from food. At least that's what I've read. I know, I'm always talking about something I've read lol.

Ombud I like to drink milk and eat yogurt and cheese, so I guess I get lots of dairy! At the moment I've stopped drinking milk and am using almond milk in my coffee and in some of my cooking. I really need to meal plan for the week ahead so I can try to go dairy free and gluten free next week. I did well with GF until my MIL treated me to Red Lobster last night...those biscuits are my weakness!!! The nutritionist got my lab results back, I'm curious what they say! Hopefully I will see her next week. Good job on the bike, pink!! Ombud I can't remember, are you trying to lose weight or just gain health?

missk82, I'm really trying to lose that last 10 but I have a new health concern which may unfortunately do that for me if I'm not nutritionally healthy. If that makes any sense.

My Vitamin D is low and due to health concern I'm being advised to limit time in sun When I first tested low a couple of years ago, my doctor gave me a prescription for D3 in a high dose that I had to take I think once a week for a month. Then I went to what was sold on the shelves, one every day. My vitamin D level hasn't been tested in a while, so I don't know where I am currently. I've spent more time in the sun this summer, between riding my bike and when I was doing my own lawn, but I'm also more mindful about using sunscreen now. Sometimes I forget the sunscreen and I have a serious tan going on. I also know that it takes more exposure for people with darker skin like mine to make adequate amounts of vitamin D compared to people with lighter skin. All that to say, I still take a low dosage supplement, as advised by my doctor. If you do find that you need a vitamin D supplement, make sure you get D3. It's suppose to be more easily absorbed and used by our bodies than D2. I don't know what your new health concern is, but I wish you well.

Back from Texas... No BBQ, no kolaches, no texmex., no biscuits and gravy made by mom!!! It was so sad, food wise. LOL I am always I'm charge of the meals when I am visiting... Usually it is in one of these catagories, but I did some roasted chickens and roasted vegetables and then turned the leftovers into a hearty, yummy stew for lunch the next day. I went out with a friend last night... I wasn't hungry or anything but he was starving so we went to our usual texmex place. I just had some chips and salsa... The salsa is my favorite, avacado and sour cream based... But I didn't eat much. Normally we'd go through a few baskets of chips and I could eat a couple of the little cups of salsa (maybe 1/4 or 1/2 cup in each) I ate about half of one. So, all in all... It was my healthiest visit home in the history of all the visits. But mostly because I didn't want to kick up my allergies. Lol I am working on some soup right now and am going to roast some veggies for lunch this week. All the meals are planned out, which is half the battle!
Hope everyone had a good weekend! let's do this!

Now that is just sad, I love texmex and miss it here. My love for Texmex knows no bounds. I used to have it at least once a week when I lived in Texas. Oddly, I was thinner then... Go figure. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

All I can say about last week was I did not hit my goals. Not a good week.
It is a new week and I need to look forwarded.
3 days of strength training and 70,000 steps will be my goals for this week.
Have a great week everyone.
