Thanks for the ideas everyone!! One thing that makes this a tad difficult is that I am kind of a picky eater. But I am trying!
Today is Day #2 of GF and DF. It's okay so far, but as I've been changing my diet over the past few weeks, everything just tastes weird! Oatmeal bread, stevia instead of sugar, almond milk...today I snapped and just drank a Coke. It doesn't even taste as good as it used to, but in a way it just tasted NORMAL. Does that make sense?

I get it... and I totally understand, i am a picky eater too! the first few weeks are the hardest. I am not feeling the best- i think there is a cold on the horizon for me, and all I want is some crusty bread and chicken noodle soup. I am seriously fighting it hard because I know it may make me feel better emotionally- but physically it won't. Good luck- you can do it! just focus on what is GOOD and what you like... sometimes I have found that finding replacements for what I ate before doesn't work, it disappoints- I just have to find something totally different to eat instead. if that makes sense.

That totally makes sense! And is a very good point! Another complaint (sorry for complaining guys) is just how long it takes to prepare everything. I know cooking from scratch is good for you but, man! It's time consuming! Especially if I am trying to make specialty items. It would be easier to continue if I could just. lose. 5. pounds. Health sometimes isn't as motivating as looking good!!

I spend several hours on sunday prepping stuff. And I make different foods for DH than I do for myself. I actually like the planning and prepping when I have time. I hate trying to squish it in to a busy weekend, though.
anytime you need ideas... feel free to ask or PM me. I am happy to try and help.

So! This morning I stepped on the scale just out of curiosity - I've been stuck between 22-225 for months now. Well I could hardly believe my eyes! It said 220.6!! That's a number I haven't yet seen post-partum. Man, I sure am regretting that Coke I drank yesterday!!!
My first goal - set way back in June - was to get to 219. Maybe this will finally be the month!!
6/3/2015 222 6/10/2015 221.2 6/17/2015 222.4 6/24/2015 222.2 7/15/2015 223.6 8/31/2015 223.4 9/2/2015 221.6 9/11/2015 223.4 9/16/2015 220.6

Sometimes it takes just a little shift in routine to start making progress. Stick with it... I promise it gets easier!!! I stepped on the scale this morning... I had a little teeter totter between 188 and 190... Landed on 190.2 So close! Just a few more days and I should be in the 180s! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

Still making slow progress. Down to 177 even which is about a half pound from a week ago. I was surprised because my pants felt tighter, and I was sick on Sunday and Monday so ate a bunch of pretzels and sprite and then ate barely any green vegetables the next day. So I think there is a bit of water weight that should come off over the next few days too.
I am walking the dogs more now because we are trying to repair our grass. The dogs are upset that they dont get to go out whenever they please, and it is an adjustment for me to walk them right before we go to bed. But we are on day 4 and I have my fingers crossed that the grass will sprout very soon. We will still have to keep the dogs off it for a while, but at least it will seem like it is for a good purpose.
I haven't been keeping up my yoga and I am feeling it. So I am going to focus on that the next few days.

My DH is home for good after us spending most of the summer apart to sell an out of state house. That means this week has been not so good food wise. Less veggies than I'd been getting, and just more food over all. He eats all.evening.long and of course when he's having something, I'm like, oooh that looks yummy, I should have some too! I'm giving myself through this weekend to readjust, then come Monday, I'm back on the wagon. He can eat whatever, and I'll be strong and resist after dinner snacks. That makes it sound so easy! LOL I'm good for getting my steps in, partly because of the 8 week step challenge at work. My team is in the top 5, which is cool. There's over 30 teams doing this. Keep up the good work, and have a great weekend, everyone!

hope everyone has had a good weekend! bobosensei- great job on the progress... even if it is slow, it is progress. flamingo- great job on the steps... good luck readjusting to DH being back @patstab- I know I have recommended this about a million times, but I'll try one last time- logging food. Do that and there's a 95% chance you will know why you are in trouble. So, DH met with a nutritionist on Friday and is now down for following what she says. She's basically having him limit carbs (excluding nonstarchy veg) to a certain amount per meal and limiting portions. He seems pretty ready to give it a go and I am working hard to keep things going for him so it makes it easy. Today I added some veggies (spinach, green onion, green pepper and mushrooms) to his scrambled eggs. and limited his bacon to two slices. Thankfully his nutritionist agrees with me- fats aren't an issue, fats are good. so 2 slices of bacon are fine, along with the eggs they fit into his portion size for the meal. DH loved the breakfast and wondered why he hadn't thought of doing that a long time ago. I chopped and portioned out veggies for future scrambled and popped them in the freezer. I also put together a couscous salad- cooked and cooled couscous with mushrooms, green peppers, green onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and mozzarella- all tossed in an italian vinaigrette. Portioned out to 1 cup servings- he can have it as a snack or side to something. I currently have veggies roasting in some homemade bone broth- onions, carrots, celery, potatoes- to that, i will add green beans and green peas. I am roasting chicken too... once it is all done, i will throw it in a pan, thicken the sauce a bit and shred the chicken. YUMYUMYUM. It'll be dinner and lunch for me for the week. DH has some veggie stuffed shells. I'll be working on making things more veggie heavy- which seems easier when the weather is cooler. I can eat soups, stews and roasts all damn day long. I am ready to see what the week will bring- I cracked in to the 180s ... just barely, but I am there!

sarcasticgirl-will you come cook for me?! You menu sounds amazing, and much better than the grilled cheese w/chicken and tomato soup I'll be having tonight. (And I had 2 hotdogs at the Cubs game today . In my defense I did a super work out this morning, but still). However, we have lettuce, red pepper, black beans, and corn for me to take a salad to work tomorrow. Oh, and honey crisp apples. Because it's fall and honey crisp apples are THE.BEST.EVER!

Well, if you had brought home a cubbies win then perhaps I would consider it... But alas those damn cardinals won! Should have gotten some fries instead of the second hot dog... The fries at Wrigley are freakishly good! I actually really enjoy the cooking and prep. My coworkers are always saying I should have a little side business for myself of premade meals for the week for busy people, but that seems like way more effort than I am willing to put forth. Maybe when winter rolls in and I don't want to leave the house I'll explore the idea. I am working on more ideas for cold salads that will hold up for the week... I was concocting am asian slaw salad in my head on our walk this evening. And also more "one pot" type meals that are easy, scrumptious AND healthy! Sent from my Nexus 10

I've been doing pretty well going dairy free and gluten free, with one slip up on Sunday. I tiptoed onto the scale today and saw 220.2, wow! I am feeling so hopeful that my health and weight will be addressed now.
I met with the nutritionist last Thursday and we discussed my lab results. The biggest marker was that I had an abundance of yeast in my GI. That's a reason why people crave carbs and sugar, and yeast grows when you eta them, as well as when there is undigested food. She also noticed some inflammation in my small intestine. Most interesting is that I learned that a lot of your immune system is based in your gut! And a robust count of...the thingies in there? is between 80 and 90. And my number was 9. She said that's indicative that my body has been trying to fight something for quite a long time. I think I just feel so relieved. After years of dieting and exercising and failing and feeling like it was all because of my lack of willpower - I learned that there is so much more going on inside that we don't even know about. So if anyone out there is feeling frustrated or knows someone who is, encourage them to dig deeper!

It's nothing that I have really heard before so to hear someone else validate it has been so helpful! You look like you are losing weight consistently now!! Yay!!!! And what caused your husband to seek the nutritionist's advice?

I am down about 25 pounds like mid May. which is insane for me- I have never lost like this before. and the only big change I made was ditching dairy, eggs, flour and sugar and as i said, I indulge in something about once a week. not like a huge plate of carbonara or anything, but like, bread for a sandwich or a cupcake at a wedding. My husband was referred to the nutritionist by his dr. He is diabetic, on blood pressure and cholesterol meds. so really, it was long overdue!

Do you have any ideas for snacks? Honestly- I snack way too much on dark chocolate (the good stuff- not hersheys or anything like that) and kettle chips lol I am a big fan of Spicy black bean hummus- I think the brand is Live Well Eat Well. They have all kinds of different hummus flavors. but the black bean is my favorite. I eat it with carrots or snyders makes gluten free pretzels that I really like (better than regular pretzels) I like nuts and dried fruit- but have to be very careful of portions. I like to keep stashes of cold salad- a few veggies tossed in italian dressing (no lettuce, that gets soggy) usually carrots cucumbers and sometimes something sweet like died cranberries or even grapes. I have a few recipes for quinoa salads, that are similar in idea, a few veggies, a kick of something sweet and some quinoa all tossed in dressing. I actually find that my snacks are not because I am hungry- but because i am STRESSED. I totally eat more potatoes and rice than I ever did before- I seriously have rice nearly every day. and I eat bacon most days. But- my body is happy - at least I assume so and it isn't some crazy coincidence that I have some unknown disease or something My mind is ALL OVER the place today- I'll post some more ideas as I think of them- since I totally have more but my mind is blanking.

When serious medical issues require a drastic change in diet I've discovered how difficult some things can be. AT 1500mg of sodium allowed per day, the choices available become really important. The dietician recommended that "if there is food in your pantry, throw it out". That leaves fresh or frozen fruits and veggies, along with no more than 3oz of lean meat, dairy becomes your enemy due to the sodium and potassium in it.
I have a plastic container in the fridge with black olives in it and 3 more cans in the pantry. DH has been able to have 2 olives and green olives have more sodium than black ones. I can't bring myself to toss out the remaining pantry stuff and am trying to add a little at a time daily to finish off things.
So far, DH has lost about 8, but in his case mostly fluid and I'm down 3.
I don't mean to sound like I'm preaching, but it is truly all about the choices we make. And when I look in the mirror, my bad choices are staring right back at me.
Onward.............

congrats Blonde Granny on your loss. watching the sodium is a difficult one. you are right- you pretty much have to cut out anything in a package! I try and make most things from scratch- but sometimes I don't have homemade broth on hand, or time to soak dried beans. my entire body is achy. seriously- i haven't been doing much in the way of workout except for getting in steps. I have been doing things around the house, cleaning and sorting through all my clothing etc. so I've been up and moving. Meal planning and prep has been great too. DH is doing really well on sticking to his plan set forth by the nutritionist. I go in for blood work on Thursday and will see how I've come along in the past 3 months. Anyway- MY BODY IS ACHY! i need need need to do more stretching and more yoga. I need a stronger core. I must do this! I keep saying it, but then don't do it. ARGH! I HAVE TO! I wish I had an accountability partner or something. someone to kick my ass or challenge me lol but then again- i need to make myself do it! it isn't even hard... and it doesn't take that long!

Well, I was sick this weekend! High fever and then a sore throat. Nothing sounded appealing and when I did eat, it made my throat hurt. On the other hand...219!! 219!! 219.2 this morning, to be precise!! I'm so excited!! But I know it's going to go back up if I don't start making better choices. (I'm looking at you, sugar!)

missk82- sorry you were sick hope you are feeling better. bright side is, you have LESS than 20 pounds to lose to be under 200. Maybe that will give you motivation to kick the sugar. IT is SOO hard!

I need to stop weighing every day, but today was 218.4!! Woo!! Okay, I'll try to take a break!
But that makes me only 13 pounds away from my pre- (second) pregnancy weight of 205. That's my next goal.
Pat and sarcastic, how are y'all feeling? Pink, been bike riding lately? Ners, how's the step count going?
How's everyone doing today?

I'm feeling pretty good. I lost another 3/4 of a pound this week which is nice, but I'm pretty sure I am going to give up alcohol again to help boost the numbers. I'm hoping this will double the amount I am losing which would help me get to my goal weight in a more reasonable amount of time. The rate I am going it will take a year.

September is always a busy month at work. This year seemed worse many changes at work. Steps have not been good. It appears i will miss my September goal by 90,000 steps. Need to get back on track. On the plus side weight has remained steady.
My October goal is 310,000.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday.

I'm sick. I have whatever stupid virus is going around. I can't stop coughing! I'm not running a fever, so that's a plus at least. So, I'm getting no steps, and when I am hungry, I'm eating everything I wouldn't regularly eat. On the other hand, because I'm only eating like a handful of M&Ms, a donut, and a peanut butter sandwich a day, I'm down 2.5 pounds. LOL I'm off to bed. I'm hopeful that I am going to wake up, if not 100% healthy, then at least 100x better than I feel right now. Keep up the good work ladies!

Hmm, I'm down a full pound since my last weigh in 2 days ago. I haven't given up alcohol yet, so can't attribute it to that. I guess I wasn't finished losing water weight from my period last week.
But I've noticed that I don't feel like snacking in the evenings like I used to. I don't really know how long ago it stopped, but I can't remember the last time I ate something after 7:30. I eat dinner pretty early too before 6 most of the time. I think it is helping that it is getting darker earlier because my body starts telling me it is time for bed not time for more food.

Just a friendly reminder... You can't outrun your fork.
Diet is 80%+ of this journey... If you aren't eating well, keeping portions in control and giving your body what it should have you won't make much progress. You can work your butt off otherwise... But if your diet is a mess, you will be running in circles.
I am focusing more on food this week. I prepped minestrone for the week... Well 3 days of lunch. DH has veggie soup and tuna pitas. All his snacks are packed and ready to go too. We went to the movies today and didn't have any snacks. Of course my the time we got out of the movie we were both fightinglow blood sugar. Movie was at noon and let out at 2:40... We ate breakfast around 9am. So, I had a cookie and he had a snickers while we grocery shopped. We were both feeling shakey so I dony feel bad about it. DH is still doing great with his new eating regimen. I am proud of him. It is a lot of work for me... But worth it. Hope everyone has a great week!!!!!
