Many people have a new perspective about material possessions after a close brush with death. Like house burns down, tornado wipes out neighborhood. I would put surviving Ebola in that same category. I would be thankful I was still among the living to take new family photos and buy new things and I would bet that she is too. She will most likely be lucky enough get her dog back. I think she has every reason to be grateful and thankful and to be pissed off about any of those missing possessions would be a huge waste of emotional energy imo.
A tornado wiping out your home is different than all your stuff being burned unnecessarily. There was no reason to destroy her things. People are walking out of hospitals and away from car accidents everyday thankful to be alive. If I came home from bypass surgery and found out I was robbed, I'd still be upset. You can put it in perspective of "at least you're alive" but it still would suck. i would be angry, as well. needless destruction of my property out of fear and ignorance is not something i would tolerate well.

I'm sure as we get more Ebola victims we will get less of " an overabundance of caution". Or maybe more. Maybe they will burn the whole house down. We'll just wait and see.

I'm not usually a person who thinks lawsuit first, but I do believe I'd be looking for someone to sue, if all of my possessions were incinerated. In my mind, 1) being upset, 2) thinking I am due compensation, and 3) "looking for someone to sue" are three separate and unique ways of reacting to an event.

And here we have another case of a healthcare worker thinking he is above passing the disease. Bowling the night before he has the fever. A doctor that actually bowls...... strange, but true I bet Uber is thrilled he used one of their cars too. Surely, a doctor who was treating Ebola in Africa should consider the fact he may be a carrier of the disaese after flying home. Now two acquaintances are being quarantined. I think his treatment will go fine. We seem to have a handle on it, but the cost of everything to be on the side of caution is simply huge. This could have been easily prevented if this doctor had an oz of hubris.

The guy monitored his symptoms, reported as soon as he had a fever, called 911 to report it, and the transport that picked him up followed appropriate protocol and brought him to one of the few hospitals in the country that have the facilities all set up to care for ebola patients.

It's not as if this doctor was wallowing in his own crap, vomit and pore-oozing blood before he called 911. Sounds to me like he did everything by the book.

I will have to ponder this thought for a while. Not sure at this time which is worse.

Please look at my post 556 The quote you are commenting on was just an update of the thread. I was not saying anything of the sort, that you are suggesting, but then Johnny Cochran would run with it

Well, in my book, self monitoring would not include going out on the town like everything is fine. I believe, self monitoring would not include bowling and restaurants until you are pretty damn sure you are not carrying the virus. Like I said, hubris, my fellow man, hubris..... The monetary bill he is causing NYC is simply unacceptable imo, and this is on him.

I think you wanted to say something different in this sentence. This doctor may have had an ounce or more of false pride. That usually does not help situations.

You mean the monetary bill NYC is causing itself to mollify a panicky public who doesn't know beans about how this stuff is passed, despite the means of transmission being made available just about everywhere one looks, or reads? That monetary bill? As far as I'm concerned, the ones who need to lock themselves in their homes and communicate from under their beds are those who can't seem to get it through their heads how this stuff is passed and when quarantine is necessary.

Bowling the night before he has the fever. that was day NINE. most people show symptoms by days 6-8. edit: i would be more worried about him playing contact sports, swimming, or getting a massage, personally. bowling is pretty innocent.

we being everyone outside of Texas, i presume. and yes, medical care is costly here. that is why our recovery rate is likely to be north of 80% rather than south of 50%.

the chances are EXTREMELY high that nobody else contracted it. as far as i can tell, everything was done right.

It is interesting that posts are saying they are pissed that the NY Dr went bowling the night before he got a fever. That is really either funny or just plain silly to me. Now if anyone has proof that he went bowling the night after he got a fever we would have something to talk about.

Seems low class for a doctor to be bowling. Was this guy a real doctor? The butler Hobson (John Gielgud) to Linda Marolla [Lisa A Minelli) in the 1981 version of Arthur Hobson: Thank you for a memorable afternoon, usually one must go to a bowling alley to meet a woman of your stature.

I think that every paranoid person should self quarantine. They should not be allowed to go out in public, spreading their paranoia.
