Why is he a "f***ing jackass" but I'm not allowed to bring up the US healthcare personnel that "totally blew it"? huh? I said, "don't even get me going on the hospital personnel that totally blew it....what more proof do we need that we aren't prepared for ebola"...or something like that. I was AGREEING with you that they blew it. But he was a fucking jackass for putting us all in danger in the first place.

this was probably meant as a rhetorical question, but my answer is that i need a LOT more proof. When it comes to the safety of US citizens, I prefer to error on the side of caution i prefer to believe that we are not stupider than Nigeria. i prefer to remember the panics that we have been through before that amounted to nothing. killer bees Y2K avian flu the list is endless. in my darker moments, i think this is some vast conspiracy to keep us from noticing that we are getting looted and subjugated. that is where my fears lie.

Okay then, He's a j*****, but I'm not supposed "to get <you> started..."
There's a difference. I'll grant you that. But he gets called insulting names and the medical personnel that blew it aren't to be brought up. What's going on here?

I choose not to freak my shit over it yet. There's not enough information to be losing my shit and freaking out over it. When it's IN Georgia and I could come into contact with it (highly unlikely in my dinky little town in the country) then maybe I'll start losing my shit & freaking out.

The phrase "don't get me started" means "I have a whole lot to say on the subject, which is not going to good, so I'll leave it up to you to use your imagination" LMAO!!! I had no idea what she was talking about...I didn't realize she didn't understand the phrase "don't get me started". I thought that was a very common phrase?
To be clear...there was a huge breakdown at the medical facility. I don't know who is to blame (shouldn't the doctor have READ the notes not wait for the nurse to tell him?). But happai herself has said that our medical professionals suck at diagnosing tropical diseases...this tells me that we aren't prepared to deal with Ebola...

I really hope you are right well, people here have often accused me of being "too optimistic". this will be a very good case study. if, three months from now, we have hundreds or thousands of cases, i will admit that i was totally wrong, and that i SHOULD have been worried. if, on the other hand, we have less than 20 fatalities, then i will expect others to do the same.

I understand the colloquialism "don't get me started" but I'm still frustrated. The patient is called a "jackass" but for some reason you're restraining yourself when it comes to the performance of the hospital personnel.
Why is the name-calling directed to one side while the other side gets hit with the mute-button treatment?
FWIW, I've been following CNN's Ebola coverage and I have heard a whisper of prior contact with Ebola mentioned but nothing as specific as the story of helping someone into an ambulance. Could someone post a link if they see one?

Could someone post a link if they see one? The hospital personnel were 100% incompetent...but he knowingly had contact with a person with Ebola and chose to come to this country anyway. Sorry, he made a choice to put us all at risk Yahoo.com has the story about the vomit and the ambulance and the fact that he transported a woman with Ebola the day before or the day that she died (I forget which). I can't post links from my phone

If you find a link when you are close to a convenient PC, I'd really appreciate it.
When I posted earlier that the surnames meant something to me, I left open the possibility that I knew the people or at least the families involved. That was a bit of an angry fib on my part. The names mean something to me in the same way that surnames gain meaning to anyone who has lived in a small place for a while. After a while, you start noticing that some of the people that you know have the same last names as the streets that you are traveling on. Then you start noticing buildings, parks, and libraries that have the same last names embedded in them.
A lot of the surnames mentioned in news articles are those of the Americo elite and the fact that folks with such reverence-inducing names are becoming ill without known Ebola exposure is troubling. Usually wealth and education provide some degree of protection. Hearing those surnames makes me rather worried about how widespread Ebola has become.

www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/01/us/retracing-the-steps-of-the-dallas-ebola-patient.html?_r=0Mr. Duncan worked at a shipping company in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, but quit his job in early September. Neighbors said he had gotten a visa to visit family in the United States. For the past two years, Mr. Duncan rented a room from a family friend in a neighborhood called 72nd SKD Boulevard. On Sept. 15, he helped his landlord's daughter, who was stricken by Ebola, get to the hospital, but they were turned away for lack of space. Mr. Duncan then helped carry the woman back to the family home, where she died hours later.
So, there's a pretty good chance I've got it...I'll head to America!

The same tiny bit of text could also be interpreted as having him quit his job a week or more before he pushed anyone into an ambulance or pulled her back out.
Someone with knowledge of the premium charged (or not charged) for short-notice plane tickets on Brussels Airlines might be useful here.

It amazes me that you are absolutely ok with this guy coming to the US even though he had to know there was a good chance he was exposed to Ebola.

FC-check your Youtube link address. There is a '.' in between 'tu'and 'be' in your URL address.

It amazes me that you are absolutely ok with this guy coming to the US even though he had to know there was a good chance he was exposed to Ebola. So here's my question. The first time he went to the hospital, he did tell them he had traveled from West Africa. Why did he not tell them, "Yes, I have traveled from West Africa, and Oh, BTW, I was handling an Ebola patient 4 days ago"? That seems like it would be part of a "What's not feeling well" discussion you would have with a doctor treating you. If the man himself was from Liberia - where there are huge amounts of confusion, misunderstanding, lack of education, denial, fear, and stigma to the virus - this may help explain both his unwise decision to travel and to be less than assertive about his situation with doctors. His American family says they were actively asking for help from the CDC, so they may have a whole different perception of the disease than their Liberian relative.
