Take care of yourself Zib. Remember the well can't give to DF if you are dry.

I know it. I'm trying to be positive but I could see he was failing before transplant, I just didnt want to acknowledge it. Now I'm scared to hope. Whew, I need a counselor.

You've been through a lot, Zib. You'll probably need a good vacation after all of this. How many weeks do they tell you it'll be until DF is leading a mostly normal life again?

Those are perfectly normal feelings, zib, expressed by just about every loved one of a patient undergoing transplant or open heart surgery. They'll lessen as time passes and his condition improves. Right now, you need rest. I hope you will go home early, have a nice meal out on your way home, then crash and sleep for as long as you can. That's made a huge difference for those I've known who, in your situation, were able to do it. Hugs, hon.

I will send green smoothies.

What the heck is fresh green juice? I don't plan on having any, but am quite curious! Different green leafy veggies (beet greens, Kale or chard, various lettuces, parsley etc.) a banana, half an apple, a cucumber, a carrot, some frozen mixed berries a cup of cold water and a few drops of Stevia. I add the powder protein supplement Alive. All going into a Vita Mixer, so you can get all the pulp. Big pain to make, but well worth it in making you feel sooooo good. Substitute one of these for a meal and you'll for sure lose weight. This is the main reason I bought a greenhouse, so I could have the fresh greens all year. Yeah, I have to agree. I'd either lose weight, cuz I wouldn't drink the thing, or gain weight, cuz I wouldn't drink the thing (so would eat plenty of other stuff instead). Don't you think that protein powder stinks? I couldn't get past the smell, to even try it. I'm jealous of your green house, @lonewolf! zibazinski, I love this thread. It's got a nice, positive spin. I like that! (and hearing all the good news too!) You hanging in there okay?

And Zib, if you need a "safe" place (beyond us obviously) to express your emotions right now, I'm sure the hospital has some kind of chaplain/rabbi/counselor on staff you can talk to.
I'm so glad the weekend went well and DF is healing and according to our resident nursing staff, on what's more or less the standard schedule.
Take care of yourself.
Hugs, Beth

My mom had a quadruple bypass and she was up and getting around a few months later but didn't feel really normal until about a year later. It also screwed up her taste buds and 5+ years later, nothing tastes right. Maybe bananas and a couple of other things..... She knows others that had the problem but it went away for them.

His kids came to see him. I hope he remembers that. We were told he won't remember icu. DH's Aunt Lynn underwent a kidney transplant last year. Her kidney came from a living donor. Does not remember the ICU. Remembers a bit of the long term recovery unit ( but i'm not sure how much of that is remembering and how much of that is remembering what other people told her happened). So glad your DF is ok

My grandpa underwent quadruple bypass and valve replacement in March. He lost 2 weeks. Doesn't remember CCU or being at home for the first few days.

Hi zib. We have been away w rare internet access, then came home to no internet and no landline, which is why I haven't responded to this thread sooner.
I'm so happy that things are going well for your dh and you. Prayers for the donor and his family.
Please give princess a chance, this may have opened her eyes. And if not, there's always time to act more harshly again later if she deserves it. But your df got another chance, so I hope that will inspire you to give the others in his life a second chance too. If they mess up, it's on them.
Take care of yourself!

Amen to that. She's gotten a chance to get to know me. The rest is up to her. DF has restless leg syndrome and its driving him nuts. He needs to get walking but is still too weak to do so. What a conundrum. But he is progressing very well. No chest pain!! Number 42 isn't doing as well, I'm sorry to say. DF is number 43.

Zib glad to hear that DF is doing well. This may help with the restless leg syndrome and I don't think the hospital would object. Put an unwrapped bar of soap under the bottom sheet at the foot of the bed. That really helps me with restless legs and perhaps it will give him some relief. I don't see how that could interfere with all his other meds and treatments.
Best wishes to both of you.

His kids came to see him. I hope he remembers that. We were told he won't remember icu. He probably won't, zib. Most don't, but a few will have bits and pieces of memory. The drugs keep them pretty much out of it for, at least, the first 24 hours. While not nealy near as rough as a heart transplant, my dad had a little bit of a problem mentally focusing upon waking up ìn the ICU after heart bypass surgery. The nurse asked him his name and he got that right. She asked him what date it was and his answer was a week or so off. That was not too bad. When the nurse asked him ìf he knew where he was, he hesitated and then responded in all seriousness, "The Hamden County jail?" The nurse laughed and said, "Close enough."

Yep, we do hear some interesting things when people are coming out of anesthesia, or from those who are recovering from really serious surgeries. It's always fun to watch the patient's face when you share with them (once they're well on their way to recovery) some of the things they said.

Glad your DF is doing so much better - as for the RLS, he's going to have to take baby-steps once he's given the green-light to get out of bed and walk around a bit.
When I was about 13, I was on complete bed-rest for a couple of months (Rheumatic Fever) - when I was finally given the go-ahead to start moving around, my legs were like rubber from being in bed so much.
On a positive note, after my dad's transplant, they had him up & moving within a week or so - with help. He was home in no time.

He had a better night than the night before and is cranky about food!! PT is coming at 10. It's 9:40 now. AM, sorry not clear. But his color is good, too. Not that pasty white/grey. Not a flattering shade on anyone.

I suggest Sundara in Wisconsin Dells. IT's heaven. And no kids under 18 allowed.
