NPO for awhile yet. Poor thing. He goes in and out though. He's a half hour from breathing on his own if things stay on course.

None of that here. This place is first rate. I've heard they don't treat their nurses well but if its true, they don't take it out on patients. I'm doing a HUGE fruit basket when we leave here. Yes, it does look like all in one vein but there's so much going on that I'm not positive of it. He's now at level 2 on ventilator. They're checking his gasses, which sounds funny, and then they go to 0. He's got a central line, I'm sure. That goes into a huge vein that can handle all the medications he'll need. They're checking his Co2 levels and O2 levels to be sure his blood gasses are in balance. That's necessary before they can remove the vent. He has to be moving air and exchanging gasses efficiently on his own.

It sounds like he's making wonderful progress, I hope they get him off the vent soon.

It's baby-steps for him right now - but every small improviement (waking up, better breathing, etc) - are HUGE leaps in is progress. It was a slow process healing and building strenght up again for my dad after his transplant, but every little success is a milestone on the road to recovery..

You should be recording his drug-induced ramblings to play back once he's healed.
They'd be good for a laugh - or blackmail.

When you get him home, make him fresh green juice smoothies. He'll love you for it. I know...sounds yucky, but I swear it shortened DH's healing time.

He's off the ventilator and a lot of the meds. Looks like 7 or so. They're getting him up today. He's scared he will fall because he's so weak. Poor guy.

I don't plan on having any, but am quite curious! Different green leafy veggies (beet greens, Kale or chard, various lettuces, parsley etc.) a banana, half an apple, a cucumber, a carrot, some frozen mixed berries a cup of cold water and a few drops of Stevia. I add the powder protein supplement Alive. All going into a Vita Mixer, so you can get all the pulp. Big pain to make, but well worth it in making you feel sooooo good. Substitute one of these for a meal and you'll for sure lose weight. This is the main reason I bought a greenhouse, so I could have the fresh greens all year.

I make a smoothie for breakfast. 1/2C cottage cheese, 1/4C fresh berries or 1/2 banana and Crystal Light. If he needed more food, and sometimes I do, I increase the fruit and cottage cheese. I prefer CL because of the calorie count, but fruit juice would also be good. Then just blend it up well. I tried added a green veggie to it a couple weeks ago, all I could taste was the veggie (yuck).

The staff is accustomed to dealing with the patients' first time on feet. As they discontinue some of the medications, he'll feel less rocky (and his ramblings will make more sense!) He's right with the timeline and it sounds like all is going very well.

I'm pretty tired today. Didnt really sleep last night. Besides the emotional drama from bio brat coupled with dealing with DF, I feel like I could sleep for days I haven't had much sleep leading up to this because he couldn't sleep because he couldn't breathe. I can tell I'm going to get sick because that's how I react to stress. Lovely. He needs me and I'm feeling punk. But I will leave today around 5 or 6 and go home.
