moon/Laura - You can take that ? mark away from my name in post #1. It'd be my honor to help out in PM or anywhere you need assistance.

I said I was willing to mod on YM or wherever needed. I posted before the list of open slots. (Just wanted to clarify for the list in the OP).

I'd volunteer for either EE or CE (those are the only two I really read)... but I'm probably too "new" to this particular board/forum for enough people to feel me worthy of the position.
Pros for me are: I'm a night person... so I'm on when many others may not be. And I have experience moderating boards and running one.
Cons for me are: I'm a night person... so I'm on when many others may not be (yeah... I know... I just called this a "pro"... well... it's both a pro AND a con... LOL), Admittedly, I have been booted from boards before... but in both cases it was the Admins that were not following the rules that they, themselves, set... so in both cases they were unjustified.
If people want me, I'd be honored... if I'm not qualified due to post count (or any other reasons), I completely understand.

I'll volunteer for YM or YM Off-topic. I never really hung out at EE. I do visit Smart Spending sometimes.

Thanks, midjd. I knew you were interested in YM, but missed the "wherever needed".
@richardintn- I remember you from MSN. I will add you to the list. I also know of your board. Thanks for offering your time.

questions: what does the duty involve? what specific requirements/considerations do moderators have over standard posters? what is the term? kr, dj Q: what does the duty involve? A: Monitoring threads for spam, smut, and CoC violations. Deleting (as well as archiving) non-compliant posts. Approving pending registrations after checking IP, e-mail, etc. Contributing to discussions on actions to take with respect to reported posts. Acting as a peacemaker. Locking, moving, deleting, duplicating, and excerpting threads (rarely). Dealing with private grievances, problems, requests, etc. Instituting and tracking bans, updating poster warning levels, adding account notes, and maintaining running logs of any moderation action taken. Q: what specific requirements/considerations do moderators have over standard posters? A: The requirements are listed in the OP of this thread. The main benefit is a sense of accomplishment for resolving a dispute, keeping the peace, engaging the community, etc. If a dispute involves a moderator, the status cuts both ways. Mod posts are subject to greater scrutiny and criticism, but moderators also enjoy a greater degree of privacy when being censured. Virtually all of the discussion happens in report threads, hence moderators can delete/edit/move their own posts without any public notice if a ruling goes against them. Q: what is the term? A: FOR... EVER.... But seriously: I don't know. moon/Laura should be able to answer that.

djAdvocate - No specific term length.
@mmc - never, in a million years. One, my comment was made tongue in check, which MM knew. even if not, i'd never just hand off this board to someone i didn't know well and didn't trust. IF i ever handed it over, it would be to someone i knew actually cared about this place. i've put too much into it to do anything else.

What about the mod for WIR? Is he/she still around? On the rare occasions when I've thought a mod was needed there, I've gone and hunted up chiver or Mmhmm or SL, because I can usually find them fairly easily. And usually it's helping to shut down a thread the OP's stated they're done with or posts not displaying.

I love the WIR Board that's my favorite Board on here, but I thought that one wasn't up for needing anyone.

I will throw my name in the hat for mod of P&M/Current events. I am really pretty agnostic as far as politics though. I consider myself a moderate independent. I am probably more conservative with money things and more liberal for social issues so I would probably piss everyone there off. I also should say I don't have twenty something hours to give and would need hand holding as far as learning the tech part. But if the board wants my free hour a day to keep the natives from getting too restless I will freely give them.

I didn't see it on Moon's list. And sometimes it does need a mod - like I said above, sometimes there's tech issues or a poster needs help with a thread. Who should we be contacting? Is the listed mod around? I never notice.

What's the worst that could happen? Clearly you weren't there for the SAHM VS working mother debates! And I didn't even like looking at some of the threads with words like vaccination and circumcision in them.

We HAVE a mod - whom I, personally, don't believe I've seen on the boards in over 2 years. When I think we need a mod, I go find one. So, what I'm asking is the following: 1. Does the mod listed for WIR exist? There were rumors at one point that it was a made up name and that several people had the login info. 2. Since I never see that mod, what should I do if I think a mod is needed? Currently, if I think a mod is needed, I go hunt one down and ask them to help or take a look at it. If this is the correct response, then maybe the listed mod needs to be removed too. Since we're having elections and talking about mods now, we may as well get this figured out too.

Beth - yes, the Mod for WIR never really migrated over from MSN. There WAS an original human mod who set up the account, but never did anything more than that. There were several of us (those who managed the Racer threads) who had access to that info just in case, but I never saw anyone use it. Normally whoever was in charge of the Racer thread would deal with any CoC/ToS violations we noticed, or keep it from getting too feisty.

Why don't we put a mod that has nothing better to do than post constantly on every post over there? Seems the best place for the "problem."

Let me first and foremost thank all the mods for the jobs they do on the boards. Your task at times reminds me of a man trying to push a 100 ft rope up the street FROM THE REAR, while trying to keep it in an orderly straight line.

2. All other current mods who wish to remain on staff shall please post here indicating such, with the understanding that it will be voted on.
I would like to stay on as a Moderator in Smart Spending. (They're a rowdy bunch, but I can handle them!) (grin) I would like to stay on as a Moderator in Politics. I know I don't post in there very often, but I do lurk and read the threads. I have found it easier for me to be impartial and open-minded if I don't personally jump into the fray and pick a side on controversial issues, so I don't always dive right in and voice my own opinions. If it matters to anyone, my political leanings can be best classified as "conservative." Even though not assigned to other areas (such as YM), I do speak up from time to time with warnings, etc. when I've seen a need. I would hope that if anyone has had personal issues with my moderating that they've done the only appropriate thing which is to quietly say snarky things behind my back on Facebook. (grin) Anyway, Vote for Molly and I can promise years of faithful sarcasm and cat advice.

On the rare occasions when I've thought a mod was needed there, I've gone and hunted up chiver or Mmhmm or SL, because I can usually find them fairly easily. And usually it's helping to shut down a thread the OP's stated they're done with or posts not displaying. The WIR admin is not really an "admin" position like the others. It was meant as a group id, so that the various regional captains could create and update things, but all under the same name. It's more of a functional ID than anything.
Unfortunately, the last I heard was that no one knew what the password was, and the person whose ID it was set up under (coffeegirl, I think?) wasn't around to assist in getting it reset. I can't change the email on the account- has to be the owner of the ID. So, that's why you haven't seen that logged into for a long time. I will have to talk to nasagreen, who was the one who wrote me about the password issue, and see what she wants to do. She hasn't really been around either.
I really don't feel that board needs an actual moderator though. I think it could work fine to just use 'report to mod', or PM someone, when something's needed.
973beachbum and Ratchets, thank you for volunteering. the OP has been updated.
