First of all, I'd like to make it clear that doing mod elections now has nothing to do with this latest round of bullying. Yes, I said bullying, because that's exactly what it was/is. Regardless, I had said quite some time ago that I would hold elections again when I had a bit of time. I still don't know that I have enough but I'm going to try anyway.
So, the way I did this last time is that interested parties post in this thread and I will gather the names after a week or two. Please state where you prefer to mod, though you will be *able* to mod anywhere. The expectation is that you do assist as best as you can elsewhere if something is blowing up. I ask that this thread remain on topic, without a bunch of chit chat, because that will make it easier to sort through.
Of note: 1. Virgil is going to remain as a tech admin, regardless. If you vote him back in later as a regular mod as well, that's fine too. 2. All other current mods who wish to remain on staff shall please post here indicating such, with the understanding that it will be voted on. 3. I'm replacing The J and diverdown34 in YM 4. I'm replacing Diverdown and cme1201 in PM. If you are conservative, we can use you. 5. I'm replacing MDW as well, but he will remain listed as he currently is in memoriam. 6. IF THERE IS NO INTEREST in certain areas, then existing mods will be left in place.
Now, it also needs to be said that not just anyone will be considered. If you have a negative history - lots of your posts have been reported, or you've been banned for serious infractions, for example - you will not be put to the vote. If you're a consistent pot-stirrer, you're out of luck. If I don't feel I can trust you? That's a no-brainer.
Current staff will be weighing in on whether they feel like interested parties would be a good fit, as well. I don't have a specific number of people I'm looking for at this point. I'll wait and see what shakes out.
Any flaming needs to be taken to the admin beef thread.
Current status and needs: General board: Moon (only one needed) Entertainment (Games, Movies, Music, etc): None (none really needed, group effort if required) EE: Scottish Lassie, Chiver78, REPLACING Mad Dawg Wiccan (3 desired) Lifestyles: None (none really needed, group effort if required) Healthy Living: None (none really needed, group effort if required) Hobbies:None (none really needed, group effort if required) Current Events: None currently (would like 2) Politics: REPLACING diverdown34, mollymouser, deminmaine, REPLACING cme1201, mmhmm, Politically_Incorrect12 (5-6 needed) Investing Perspectives: Virgil Syquil (1 needed, not sure if this even needs changing) Market Talk: Virgil Syquil (1 needed, not sure if this even needs changing) Investing Basics & Beyond: Disinfranchised Investor, ModE90 (2 needed and don't really see these two changing) Your Money/ YMOT: REPLACING The J, WWBG, REPLACING diverdown34 (3-4 needed) Smart Spending: mollymouser, Donna Freedman (only one really needed, but don't plan to make any changes)
There are a couple other boards that have diverdown listed as mod. He will just be removed and not replaced as there isn't any need to moderation on them anyway.
volunteers so far: MidJD- YM and/or wherever needed Sugilite- YM and/or EE thecaptain - PM and/ or wherever needed NazgulGirl SummerFun- YM Angel - PM Blonde Granny - YM and/or EE Chiver78 - add current events Deminmaine - add current events Richard in TN - EE or current events southernsusana - YM Ratchets - PM and/ or wherever needed 973beachbum - P&M & current events
So far, almost all current mods have expressed interest in staying on. Some haven't said yet.

Can we nominate people? Or have a separate thread to push/nag people into volunteering?

I would say that if you wish someone to consider it, that you send that person a PM to do so.
Also, if you're in favor of someone who's indicated interest, you may make use of the LIKE button to show your support.

May be I need to re-read OP, but who is "voting" exactly? Is it the whole board or just current mods.
Bc if it's just current mods, then it is a complete waste of time.
I could be wrong, though. I've been wrong before

the whole board will vote on who will be the new mods.
additionally, current mods will provide input as to whether someone may or may not be a good choice.

In compliance with point (2), I formally submit my name for moderating the political forums: CE, P&M, P&M Military, MT. Pros: 4+ Years Experience, Around Often, Frequent Contributor to the Political Forums, Cool Avatar Cons: I'm a soft touch and rarely delete anything but spam and pointed personal attacks. You'll probably want to vote somebody else in (or vote in a tough co-mod) if you feel those forums are undermoderated. Thank-you to all for your consideration.

Thanks for doing this Moon. Fresh perspectives are good to have.
And thanks once again for hosting this forum. It may seem to be a thankless job but most of us really appreciate what you're doing.

Yes, I wish to remain on as an EE Admin - I have the time and it would free up other Admin (or newly-elected Admins) to devote their time to more topic-specific areas (YM, P&M, etc).
A couple of those boards have spots that are semi-vacant, & need to be filled again.
Regards SL

How many votes will they need to stay? How do we vote to get rid of bad mods?

It may be helpful to those we're trying to nag persuade to be a mod to have an understanding of the time committment involved.
For the current mods - how much of your live do you give up to make sure this is a well run board?

For the current mods - how much of your live do you give up to make sure this is a well run board? For those who apply, a willingness to commit 60 minutes a week would probably be a good baseline. The actual amount of time spent will typically be less than this on any given week, but it pays to be prepared.

Whatever your reasons were Moon, I think it's an excellent idea.
I hope it doesn't put too many time constraints on you and I hope it goes without too much bitching and moaning.
I too would like an answer to Later's question - will a poster need a certain number of votes or is it a majority vote? How would that work?

well, last time we had "elections" Moon wanted a certain number of Mods but not enough people volunteered. If I remember correctly, she ended up accepting everyone who volunteered. So I'd guess/assume that what actually happens will depend on which current mods opt to stick around and how many people volunteer to become a mod. So I don't think there's an actual plan for How it's going to work until Moon knows how many people she's got to work vs. how many spots she needs. IF that makes sense Lena.
And keep in mind, I'm speculating here and have no input on this process.

I haven't decided yet on the exact format of the poll, so i can't really answer it effectively. i may do something like
Mod A Yes (vote) Mod A No (vote)
and the majority rules. but you all have to still keep in mind that if there isn't anyone else, that it may be irrelevant.
I deliberately didn't answer later because she's shit stirring more than anything.

It's not about voting off rather it's about adding in, there needs to be a few others.

I'm glad to stay if that's what the membership wishes. I've got the time and am familiar with what's required, including ProBoards' ToS. I'm currently on P&M, but do feel that board needs more conservative mods and I'm a moderate. I'll go wherever I'm needed, though. I do hope some folks will step up this time.

How many votes will they need to stay? How do we vote to get rid of bad mods? It's a serious question. A lot of the complaints are about specific mods and not necessarily saying more mods are needed. You said you don't know how many you are going to keep so those mods staying on looks like a foregone conclusion.

If you list them that may help clarify the areas that most need volunteers. Yes I know everyone can moderate everyboard, but it's nice to know there is a dedicated mod for each area. Thanks!

You said you don't know how many you are going to keep so those mods staying on looks like a foregone conclusion. Well, if the community wants some of the current mods gone, then enough new people have to put their names up as candidates to replace some of the old.

If I remember correctly, she ended up accepting everyone who volunteered. yup - I wasn't actually "voted in" last time around. if I remember correctly, it was just myself and one other poster who ultimately decided to step down from moderating. I'll throw my hat in the ring to remain a moderator on EE, and can pick up in YM as well. I seem to spend more time in there now than I did when I first volunteered to help out.

laterbloomer, i can't answer the question until i know who's interested to begin with. if, say, i wish to have 2-3 mods per major board, and the only 2 interested are the existing mods, then what do you think is going to happen? and you ARE still stirring the pot because everyone knows you hate SL. so it's perfectly obvious you want her gone, without taking the extra step of asking "How do we vote to get rid of bad mods?"
The Captain - i will try to get a list up of who we have where. I'm leaving soon though and may not finish it until I get back.

I will volunteer to replace The J on YM (or wherever else someone would be needed). I generally stick to YM/YMOT, although I lurk on WIR and Current Events. I am probably not conservative enough to replace Diverdown in PM.
