I'm down 2 pounds for week one using the starvation method. I have tweaked it up to 1600 calories so I can still function. Someone tell me that cutting my Diet Pepsi back will help. That is this week's challenge and it will probably be harder for me than calorie cutting. I currently drink 4 cans a day and no water. Today I started the 2 can a day plan and have replaced my lunch can with water. Do you drink anything else besides the Pepsi? I cut out all drinks aside from water but I was drinking sweet tea, I can't do the carbonated stuff. I also decided I'd rather eat my calories than drink them, but using diet kind of cuts that back for you. Personally, if I have to drink that stuff, I'd rather go full sugar than have that aftertaste.

Then why am I not dead if that's all I drink? you never ever have a glass of water? or decaf tea? or lemonade? or milk? I rarely have anything other than diet soda, unsweetened ice tea, or water. I don't drink my calories. Unless it's wine.

Water/pop....I figure as long as I'm drinking liquids I am hydrating. if the soda has caffeine you are doing the exact opposite I don't drink a lot of pop, but I do drink a lot of black coffee. And I haven't had a trip to the ER for dehydration yet so I think I am doing OK.
ETA: I have water with lunch so that must be what's keeping me alive

Watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, grapes, soups, stews, and many other food items have a high water content as well. So if you eat food rich in water then thats why you are not dead Because that, combined with soda, is keeping you hydrated. However.....HOLY SHIT!!!!! at 4 cans a day. I am not against soda, though I rarely drink it myself, but 4/day seems too much to me I'd rather "eat" my calories in nutritive food than eat empty calories or drink stuff with no benefit to it all.

Well, there's no calories in Diet Pepsi. I suppose 4 is a lot, but tons of people drink coffee all morning and I don't do that. I suggest reading up on diet soda and health effects. Diet soda doesn't have calories, yes, but it still has a negative effect on weight loss. ETA: I'm not suggesting cutting out the soda cold turkey but I think you will see positive benefits by cutting back. Try lemon water during the day. :-)

That crap is horrible for you. Sure it has no calories but it doesn't have any redeeming qualities or ingredients either.
Water is your friend. Cut out the soda and start drinking 64 or more ounces of water a day and you'll see a difference.
I'm the opposite of you- I only drink water. Once a month or so I might buy a 7-up or some other clear soda but that's it. I have lost the taste for them. Diet Pepsi to me now tastes disgusting.
DH still misses the "fizzy" aspect and buys a 12 pack of sparkling water every week. He usually has one can a day.

Well, I drank 34 ounces of ice water over lunch instead of my 12 ounce DP and am about ready to head to the bathroom for the second time since lunch. <br><br>I just found a whole box of Propel packs in my desk drawer that I'd bought years ago and forgot about. I should try using them to transition. I didn't see aspartame on the ingredients which is something I'm trying to avoid. <br>

I also 'cold turkeyed' my diet coke habit when I was pregnant and never went back. Now I can't even sip soda; it's just disgusting.
That said, it is hard not drinking anything but non carbonated beverages. Especially if you don't want caffeine - you are stuck with juice basically. Lemonade gets old. I drink coffee and iced tea if I want caffeine.
I've tried gatorade and vitamin water, but that stuff is gross, too.
Guess I'll just stick to beer and wine.

I went off most soda when I was sick, diet coke or pepsi just tasted horrible. Actually, most things tasted horrible other than lemonade, Grand Marnier, ginger ale and milk. Water was the worst because it left a horrible, metallic taste in my mouth that no amount of toothpaste could get rid of. Wine tasted just like I was drinking vinegar, beer smelled like urine.
Once I ditched the antibiotics, I never went back to the diet coke but I still prefer ginger ale....and only one particular brand. Fortunately, beer and wine now tastes like it used to!

I've never really been a soda drinker. I would drink them on occasion when I was younger. I dislike the big ones: coke, dr. pepper, pepsi etc. I do really like Rootbeer. I buy a 5 pack of the mini cans and it usually lasts through the year until DH's nephew comes and drinks the 3 or 4 I have in the pack. I can't drink more than 1/2 of a carbonated drink without feeling like I am going to explode. I drink water and tea mostly... Usually about 80 oz a day. I sometimes add lemon or cucumber slices to my water. My DH was drinking 2-3 diet sodas a day. He's recently given them up since his Dr. told him that despite being sugar free, they raise his blood sugar. He says his sugar cravings have gone down and he feels better.

It's certainly not the cheapest option but the easiest most effective diet I ever did was a medically assisted weight loss program. 12 weeks of food plus weekly private visits with a weight loss counselor who helps with any problems following the program and helps you come up with a food plan for when you start eating regular food again a couple of doctor visits and a personal trainer consultation for $1200. The food was 5 powdered drinks (with the option of making them as pudding) and 2 candy bars that tasted just as good or even better than regular candy bars total of 900 calories/day.
I lost 25 lbs in 10 weeks. I didn't do much exercise but I walked around the parking lot at work a couple of times a day most days... fresh air breaks while my coworkers took their smoking breaks. Supposedly you can lose 3-4 lbs/wk if you exercise and people who are heavier to start with lose more/wk until they get closer to a healthy weight.
I think it worked for me because I didn't feel deprived of chocolate and eating high protein high fiber food and lots of water every 2 hours kept me feeling full. Sometimes I did feel hungry but it wasn't hard to make myself wait another 30 minutes or so to eat. Also not having to think about food made it easy. I don't know if I would have been able to do it if I had to fix meals for others every day and still diet. I did fix meals when I babysit and I still went out with my friends to weekly wing night and drank water & socialized but didn't eat. The counselor helped me come up with a plan for vacation where I ate broiled shrimp or scallops & vegetables for dinners out instead of the last 2 prepared meals and I still lost 3 lbs that week.
I think the low carb diet regulated my blood sugar & reset my metabolism. I've been off the diet for a year now and I still buy the candy bars for my afternoon snack at work so I'm not tempted to use the vending machine and I always keep yogurt & cottage cheese around for a high protein breakfast/snack but other than weighing myself every few days to be sure I'm staying on track I don't seem to need to worry too much about what I'm eating. I do tend to eat when I'm upset but I try to start out with splurges like fresh raspberries instead of ice cream.

Woohoo! I did it! Seven days of only 2 Diet Pepsi's a day instead of 4. Replaced the other two with 32 ounces of water. Well, I didn't QUITE make it yesterday because one of the bottles was a 24 ouncer, but it was hot and I was working outside all day in the yard and garden.
I'm liking this making one or two minor changes a week thing. First week. Start myfitnesspal to track calories and walk 3X/week. Second week, eliminate half soda and replace with water, up the walks to 6X/week. Down 4-7 pounds already (my scale is wonky).
Week 3. Adding biking in this week. My son and I have decided to do a 100 mile MS ride in August so need to start preparing. Going to start slow though. Maybe a couple short rides a week. Time is my biggest enemy, especially right now. The next two weeks are horrible. My son is trying to get two ranks in Scouts by next week plus all the end of school year stuff for both kids. Every day has something up through June 5th.

Someone gave me a Diet Pepsi today around lunch time (the admins were cleaning out the conference room fridge) and even then I refused to drink it, which is like a miracle. I still TOOK it, because I'm cheap and it was free, but it's just sitting on my desk. I'll take it home with me tonight. Work just sent this out yesterday and I signed up for a little extra motivation. Summer Exercise Competition - Update 1. Contact XXXX or XXXX to register 2. Entry Fee - $5/person 3. Join at any time during competition 4. Mileage-tracking resources (mileage log) will be shared with participants on May 30 5. Record the number of miles exercised in each category (run/walk, bike, swim, paddle/row, other measurable (distance traveled) aerobic exercise. 6. Report progress monthly 7. Prizes to be awarded to Individual Activity Winners (top biker, top walker/runner, etc.) and Overall Mileage Team Champion. I WILL get rid of this baby fat!!

A friend told me about another fitness app too. It's called RunKeeper. It supposedly (just downloaded today) tracks your route when you're running/walking/hiking/whatever and tells you how far you went and calories burned, it even recognizes inclines if you're hiking. I'm guessing that's kind of sketchy if you're out where signal isn't great, but I've always wondered how far I really walk on my lunchtime strolls.
You can also set goals. I'm trying to set some for the summer, but I'm not sure what's realistic. I'm thinking 200 miles walking and 400 biking.
