Question to those who lost weight after having kids - did your stomach ever got to look the same or at least similar to what it looked pre-kids? If so, do you think it's age, your activity level or just good genes? After my first son (age 33), I got back into very good shape, like hot bod shape, flat stomach and all . Second son (at age 41), killed me. I weigh the same now as I did when I went into the delivery room and my stomach is awful. To be fair, I haven't been taking very good care of myself the past couple years and eating way too much to boot. I think I've finally had enough and am ready to start feeling good about myself again.

I think it is possible but you're right you have to self motivate. I'm actually really annoyed at myself because I don't exercise anymore. After the kids go to bed I just want to sit on the couch and space out. I know that exercising would make me feel better and improve my mood but apparently that is not enough motivation. I can sense myself getting to the point where I am almost motivated though, I think it's just that I feel so pathetic about how sedentary I am and I don't like being pathetic.

I'm staying fairly active while pregnant. And I plan to drop the excess weight as quickly as is possible/safe. The longer you stay at a bigger size, the more your skin stretches to that point, losing its elasticity, making it hard to get flat again.

I don't know the "details", but you look amazingly fit. What were you doing besides yoga? I actually have an elliptical thingy in my sunroom and started doing it while kids play around. I only do a few minutes at a time, bc I am VERY out of shape, but I realized that if I waited until kids are in bed, out of the house, etc I'll never do it

I find it's easiest to exercise with the kids. Go for a walk with the stroller or bike ride with the trailer. I can hike with older son, but younger one I need to leave with Grandma when we do that or we spend more time playing with bugs and picking flowers.

I did so much walking on my maternity leaves. DD was born in July and DS is a September baby, so the weather was great for walking! Plus it got us out of the house.

I think age has something to do with getting back in shape. I bounced back within 6 weeks of my first DD at the age of 34. I had my second DD at 38 and although I am now 10 pounds lighter than when I got pregnant, I have this circle of flab around my waist. I'm with Lena in that I have no motivation to exercise. My nutritionist friend from work is also an avid CrossFit fan and she told me that if I don't have enough time to exercise, I should try and squeeze in 15 minutes of a workout that is exhausting. I'm really unfit but I've been trying to do the following when I get home from work but before dinner. (jump rope x 50, squats x 50, jumping jacks x 50). The most I've managed is 4 rotations and I'm wiped at the end.
Other people who are pressed for time (or unmotivated) might want to try this strategy. My girls are playing in the backyard at the same time so I'm not having to worry about childcare.

1200 calories is evil!!! HTH do you get three meals and a couple snacks out of that! I'll tell you how I did it yesterday. I walked an hour, canoed 30 minutes and mowed lawn for 2 hours. LOL That's the only way I get enough calories allotted to be happy. But I can't do that everyday.

this is why I said you may want to calculate the calories you need for weight loss at a site outside of MFP. fit2fatradio is one (or it could be fat2fit).

Just did now.
Based on how much activity you do on an average day, the calories in the right column will be the number of calories that you will be able to eat at your goal weight. If you start eating those calories right now (eating like the thinner you), you will eventually become that thinner person. As you get closer to your goal weight, your weight loss will start to slow down. It is OK to eat a few hundred calories less per day (200-300) to speed up your weight loss at this point.
Activity Level Daily Calories Sedentary (little or no exercise, desk job) 1631 Lightly Active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk) 1869 Moderately Active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk) 2106 Very Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/wk) 2344 Extremely Active (hard daily exercise/sports & physical job or 2X day training, i.e marathon, contest etc.) 2582
I also think I'm more active than I give myself credit for. I always check "sedentary" because I sit at a desk all day for work, but I have horses and 3 acres of yard to take care of.

Rather than counting total calories, I have always liked the "cut out 250 calories of food and add 250 calories of exercise each day" plan. It makes it seem simple. The key is not how many calories you are eating and expending, but that is less than before.
