For being a "racist", he sure pays a lot of black people a lot of money. I'm intolerant of people that are intolerant, because it's "my" view, that makes it right, right? And here I thought all this time that it was the ticket-buying sports fans like myself, the television networks and the advertisers who paid the salaries of the players.

Does the mean referring to someone as a red neck would not be racist? i think of redneck more as an attitude. not all white people are rednecks, just like not all black people are slackers. I googled Redneck Every image involved someone "white" in what I would call a derogatory statement If I were to post an image of someone black in the same context, I would be labeled a racist by others on this board. in what context? When all I am doing is pointing out the lack of equal treatment. One of the posters here referred to someone as living by a landfill, to which I considered to be a derogatory statement. Enough of the rant. Off to work Three weeks in moving my business, Where all this stuff come from. not following that either.

The contracts the players have are with the franchise/owners, not with the fans, the TV networks, or the advertisers. They may be able to get some money on the side with corporations, but that's another different revenue source.

I actually heard part of the tape where this dbag was explaining how he buys the players their houses and cars, etc. I know he 'thinks' it works like that in his twisted little mind, but in reality, just like in the corporate world, it is the players that are generating the revenue that allows him to make a profit after expenses- so no, he has not bought a damn thing for anyone.

Since many of my views are way out in the pasture as compared to those that straddle the fence of political correctness, here's a another view.
If Sterling is such an racist, in the private conversion why did he refer to the group that he thought she needed to stay away from as black people and did not use the n word?
In my youth I was advises to stay certain people that happened to be Mexican Americans, not because my father was a racist but because they were trouble.
Their parents probably told them to stay away from me because I was trouble.

Wow missed this one- although right away what do I care about what one rich douchebag says? And for the most part he does own black people-at least their contracts. My question is why the OP went right passed the racist comments and into who had the sack to make a recording and question if it was edited'. What? Not possible for a rich white man to be racist! Must be a conspiracy! Must have been a set-up! Yes because all rich white men are racists of course.

Just pointing out that he has donated to Dems. I didn't know that, but I did hear on the news this morning that the NAACP has been criticized for accepting donations from him- which they now plan to return. We are now seeing the vaunted "political correctness" process at work. Perhaps these donations were his way of cleansing his soul. I found out on Jeopardy the other night that the phrase about charity covering a multitude of sins was actually coined by a man who was Sainted. Buy your way into heaven Sir. Saints are just sinners but with good editors.

Shooby said: "Just pointing out that he has donated to Dems." He's 'a registered Republican and donated a total of $11,000 to Democratic political figures between 1989 and 2002. That amount must have hurt the pocket of a billionare. Donald Sterling is a Republican, not a Democrat -- but does it matter?
Just the far-right's attempt to deflect attention away from their former head-over-heels, falling in love with Clive Bundy, who it turns out is nothing more than a racist thief.

And so on, and so on... So since the franchise has lost advertisers from this incident, the players will be immediately paid less, then, right?

You are also now moving the goal posts as my initial post was about where the money for salaries comes from prior to the Sterling fiasco. Hell, let him now pay the salaries out of his own pocket although I see him selling the team as quickly as possible.

No, like I said the first time and showed in the second one...the money comes from contracts with the franchise. And the players get paid the same, no matter how much less the franchise gets from fans and advertisers. So, yes, the fans and advertisers contribute money to the FRANCHISE, but THE PLAYERS get money through contracts with the franchise.

And with no money from the fans or the advertisers, the PLAYERS cannot get paid through their contract with the FRANCHISE. No fans/no advertisers = no games as the FRANCHISE cannot print their own money to pay the PLAYERS. And the team OWNERS are out to make some money, not lose it by having to empty their pockets to pay the FRANCHISES.

The funniest part of that conversation is that he told his gf she could sleep with whoever she wanted but she couldn't be seen in public with them. I'm not completely convinced he wasn't trying to hide that he's a swinger and it wasn't exactly about racism.

I'm still trying to figure out how he already had one lifetime achievement award from NAACP and was set to collect another one this May, when several have come out in the industry that they're not at all surprised about these comments coming from him. www.latimes.com/local/la-me-donald-sterling-naacp-20140429,0,4522042.story#axzz30IYXwG5a

Regardless of what he said, now what? If people want to boycott, fine. the league is not like that. it has it's own constitution, Shoob. it has a ratifying process. it allows for dismissal of owners, by supermajority of owners. it is not like he can do whatever the hell he wants, and it becomes a consumer/producer struggle. this is between the league and him.

Sterling just got his ass kicked by Adam Silver. Sterling is banned from everything. Good for Silver. When the majority of players are black, it would look really bad to tolerate someone with clearly racist views -even if he doesn't believe his views are racist & he is just following culture. I don't think there is anything else you could call it but racism when you don't think your GF should have her picture taken with a basketball legend because he is black.

He was fined $2.5 million and the money is to be donated to organizations of the players' choice which help teach diversity.
Well at least Sterling was diverse in his choice of mistresses. The only thing less worse than a wife scorned is a mistress scorned.

Yeah...how stupid to you have to be to say these things to someone who is part black? No wonder she recorded the conversation. Did at no point he realize he was probably offending her? And then he acts hurt like she has done something horribly wrong. The tapes actually reminded me of a lot of conversations with my ex...Not the content of the argument, but the way he keeps insinuating she is stupid because she doesn't understand his point & how he keeps trying to make her the bad guy & calling her a fighter.

Please tell me Gloria Allred and Al Sharpton will be next to comment.
I love watching who pops out of the woodwork during stuff like this hoping to claim 15 more minutes of fame.
