Tonight is going to be (some type of) pizza. I am just not in the mood to try and figure out anything else and the leftovers will come in handy tomorrow.

I'm thinking roasted Brussels sprouts and Ben and Jerry's. Plus rum chats + fireball. I did work out today so it's all good. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

DH is smoking pork spare ribs. We have lots of veggies leftover from our veggie trays at one of our family gatherings last Saturday, so we'll use more of those tonight.

11/23 NCW
I 'had' planned on the lunch special from a local chain place. Howerver, we had storm & tornado warnings here & nearby. Did not go out at all. Did no cook from my freezer:
beef burger w/fried onions and romaine salad Veg, beef, mushroom & barley soup.

I forget what my sister is cooking, my mom is making crock pot lasagna and a huge batch of meatballs - neither of which I'll eat, b/c I don't care for beef. she uses 80/20 beef for everything. I've got a batch of hunter's chicken simmering right now, and it smells amazing. I will absolutely be doing this again, with both white and dark meat since the roommate's picky. hell, I might make it again tomorrow while we're both home. cost breakdown: $4.00 4lbs bone-in chicken thighs $.50 lg white onion $.75 red bell pepper $1.50 10 oz cremini mushrooms $1.29 can whole San Marzano tomatoes - the last splash of a bottle of red wine I had on the counter - garlic and shallots, always in the house. - salt, thyme, oregano $8.04 for I'll guess 7 servings. there were 7 pieces of chicken in the package.

Wait to see the first star. Not going to happen with these storms.
Peas and bean soup, pierogies with mushrooms and onions, crab cakes (the Maryland touch), asparagus, ham and homemade bread. We gave up borscht years ago since few ate it.

Lobster and pasta with a tomato cream sauce. Mostly because it does not look like dinner tomorrow night, which is turkey and all the holiday trimmings.

I came home from my family's gathering to find my roommate (S) and our other friend that's always here (M) had made dinner and expected me to join them. um....oy. I fixed myself a small plate and somehow made it fit, but oof. it was tasty though, I know we will be doing it again. they thin-sliced BSCB and pounded them even flatter, then rolled the slices around diced jalapeno and shredded pepper jack cheese. they wrap the entire thing in bacon and hold it with a toothpick, then baked. the side was bacon/jalapeno/cheesy tater tots that we all added our favorite hot sauce to. after a pretty healthy earlier meal (for me, anyway. there was unhealthy stuff to choose from, but I didn't) I am kind of in a food coma now.

I treated myself to a piece of sashimi-grade tuna, seared lightly, with sticky rice.

yum. can you share your pozole recipe? I don't know whether it's something I'm doing wrong, or whether the recipes I've found are wrong, but nothing I've done has come close to what I've had in TX. please and thank you!

We've been on the run for family gatherings for a few weeks and so we are all in need of a yummy, hot, meal (as opposed to those meals I cook at home and pack up and bring with us somewhere or safe takeout I order from a pricey steak house to replace a non-safe wedding reception meal -- both of which end up being cold or reheated with less-than-desirable results). So, tonight is a sirloin roast, baked potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, baked butternut squash, and warm rolls. We'll eat early (for us, anyway), then pack up yummy desserts and gifts and head to the family gathering. Sounds antisocial, I know, but we have seen the family repeatedly over the past few weeks. Sometimes, you just gotta do what you want to do for a change. Merry Christmas to all those celebrating it, and merry christmas to those not celebrating it but to whom I still wish a happy, peaceful, joyful Friday just because.

No cook week is officially over.
I only spent $17.21 not near the $50 budgeted. The weather has turned seasonal here. Sat I moved to my next ‘plan:’ Clean out the fridge, freezer & pantry (FFP). Since I do have $$ left I can feel free to eat out/bring in on any day I do go out (hankering for some sushi). I do plan to do some cooking but VERY fast & easy stuff like eggs, pasta & fish. Exceptions might be a new recipe or 2 I am dying to try and/or finding a turkey breast on close out sale.
12/26 FFP Lunch: English muffin pizza Dinner: baked potato

I've been eating way too much of all the wrong foods lately. I feel so gross and it's affecting my workouts. Dinner last night was spaghetti and turkey meatballs with a side of cauliflower. DS actually ate all his cauliflower! I told him it was white broccoli.

I'm on my own tonight so even though I want some food from my fave hole in the wall Mexican joint, I'll make veggie fried rice. Probably.

I have 2 # of ground been that I bought on sale today, and my plan is to make all of it into individual meat loaf patties wrapped wit bacon. If I get enthused enough I'll do that. Was planning 1 for dinner and the rest in the freezer. I bought a small container of cheese & bacon pasta and think I can get 3 servings from that.
WOW, all the tricks my Mom used to do, and the thriftiness marvholly brings to this forum, I proudly announce I am under my $200 grocery budget for the month of December. It does help however that much of what I'm eating is well planned out and I'm adding to the freezer stash.
on edit: I got the meat loaf patties made, now all I have to do is wrap a slice of bacon around each one them freeze them. Will freeze them on a tray first, then package them up. I changed the recipe a little in order to use up saltine crackers...dh loved them, I never did, so the balance of them, along with 2 unopened boxes of the low fat/salt crackers will be tossed into the Vitamix for crumbs for other items.
As for dinner tonight, I forgot I took some frozen pot roast out last night. I plan on making some instant mashed potatoes served with butter tonight, then made some sandwiches from what is left for tomorrow and Tuesday.
