Thanks, Sug! Happy belated birthday, Kilroy! Marionth, I used to use MFP and prefer Myplate. It's a matter of preference I suppose. Sarcastic, re the 5 pounds, maybe try cutting down on breads, etc, if they are still in your diet? Dolphins, WTG! MissK82, we have a weight machine at home and I love it! Ah, moms. Mine used to be the same way back in the day, you know, when they made Dexatrim, etc. with the good stuff? Half way through the month and I'm down 4.2 lbs. ETA: Congrats, Chive!

Woo hoo for me today! Not only did I do my usual mall walk this morning, but I did exercises in my office at lunch! I'm so happy. Tonight gym with my husband. I left the exercise band in my desk, so hopefully I'll continue my new routine.

I have been trying to switch to more veg and less meats and today my stomach has held a mutiny. Guess bears were not meant to be vegetarians...

Somebody brought cake to work today. A half sheet. With chocolate frosting. I spent all day avoiding the break room. Thankfully, the cake has disappeared, and with absolutely NO help from me!!! Back to work.....

My Db came over tonight and informed me that my digestive troubles have nothing to do with my new high veg diet- it's another stomach virus that is going around.
Thrills!
So I am on rice, broth and sprite for 3 days.

I splurged on pizza tonight, but I kept calories really low today and then drank 16,oz of water before have pizza, had a reasonable portion, and then brushed my teeth. So I am still within my calorie range for the day... The top of my range... But still. I will keep moving tonight in order to amp up my calorie burn.

I had a change on the scale this AM - up 1lb. but I suppose I did it to myself - I went out to the Celtics game last night with some friends. ate well (asked for no cheese on my salad, but there were still some black beans) but then I had a few beers over the night. not typically my first choice, but one of the few beers I actually like is a red ale from the microbrewery where we got dinner. I got one more when we got in to the game, and that was it. but the other thing is that my pants are almost falling off my butt today - a pair that has been actually fitting. so that's a good thing, I guess. going to have to look into getting some belts w/o metal buckles (serious skin allergies, they make my tummy break out) because I am not quite into the next size down yet. for food today, I went big on breakfast and repeated yesterday's omelet and bacon - but with water this AM. I'm actually awake today. I have a dentist appointment over lunch so I won't stop to eat at all. if I get hungry this afternoon, I've got a clementine in the fridge. yesterday's was so juicy, so yay for that dinner tonight will likely be some grilled/baked fish with some asparagus. yum!

I totally ran out of gas at the gym today It was my 4th day in a row, though, so I guess I can cut myself a little slack. On a happier note, I got rid of the 1 pound box of chocolates I got for Christmas by having DH take it to our building's holiday party (I was at work), and I used a good chunk of the $25 Starbucks card to buy tea bags to keep at the office. So, not quite so much "free" junk as there might have been. Oh, and if I need a motivator to keep going to the gym, there's a super cute guy there who reminds me of a cross between Benedict Cumberbatch & my DH when he was 19

chiver - that's just water from the beers, don't worry about it. And congrats on the pants falling off! If your pants are falling off, you're probably closer to the next size down than you think!
kilroy - yes, cut yourself some slack. You do need rest days too! Way to go on the self-control with the chocolates and starbucks.
I'm going to be struggling with self-control this weekend as 1) DH's work party friday, 2) my mom is coming up to celebrate her birthday - dinner out plus cake and 3) trying not to drink booze at both of those things!

kilroy - I did that with a gift basket from the mortgage broker that did my refi last month, all kinds of processed goodies like M&M bags, pretzels, candy corn. no thank you. I brought it in to work and dropped it in the dept caf, it lasted about 15 minutes. bsbound - phew, that's good to know. I got really pissed at myself when I saw that number this AM, hopefully I can pull it back into check the next few days! and for you this weekend, what do you typically drink? if you are a mixed drink girl, try mixing with seltzer and a fruit wedge. my normal go-to when I'm out is a flavored Stoli vodka (razz if they have it) and seltzer with lime. it will help minimize the damage. I don't think I could do both those events w/o at least one drink. good luck!

Chiver, I'm actually thinking it will be easier to not drink anything than only have one. I definitely find it easier in general to abstain from booze completely than drink in moderation. And given how stubborn the scale is being, I may just take a pic of it and look at my phone any time I'm tempted LOL!

chiver- i wouldn't worry too much about that pound. I always seem to jump up a pound before I drop. I weighed in on tuesday, wed. I had gone up a pound and today I am down to .4 below tuesday's weigh in. Try again tomorrow and see what the scale says, i'll bet it is down.
Kilroy- rest days are essential! and good job with getting the snacks out of the house and loading up on tea. I heart tea.
BSB- I bet in a day or two, you'll drop. sometimes the body is just slow. And I second what chiver said- flavored vodka in seltzer or even flavored rum. Or one of my summer faves- iced tea with a healthy splash of peach vodka. Though, I'd say a glass of red wine would be acceptable too. It is heart healthy and all that.

My usual diet-friendly alcohol drink is vodka with flavored-infused soda - like La Croix and a splash of lime. If I do drink, vodka-soda will definitely end up being what I drink!

I think bsbound was right - the extra pound was water. I hopped on the scale out of curiosity when I got home tonight, and I was only another lb-ish up from this morning. normal daily fluctuations are about 3-5lbs. that said, I'm having a totally non-paleo night right now. this is where I am NOT my mother - I recognize something isn't quite right in all of this, and I need to figure out how to fix it. if y'all can help me out, that would be awesome. I'm going to post that same request in the FB page of the weight-loss challenge I'm in the middle of. FWIW, with this AM's extra pound, I have lost 8lbs since 1/2, without doing anything extra as far as exercise goes - in fact, I've probably done less than normal b/c I was nowhere near 100% past the 1st shift of last weekend's game. that is a very unhealthy rate of loss, and entirely unsustainable. when I got home tonight and wanted to forego dinner and just crawl into bed, it occurred to me to check my numbers for the day so far. after that omelet/bacon breakfast, I had a huge bowl of sauteed garlic spinach (there was a meeting at work, they put out leftovers. the spinach was nearly untouched!) when I got back from the dentist. I also picked up a soy latte on my way back to my office from that appt in order to help bulk up calories. I got home and I still wasn't really all that hungry. rather than give in and call it a night, I logged in to MFP - where I learned that I had eaten all of 642 calories(53 carb/40 fat/44 protein) which is just nuts. so, I decided to go to the pizza place across the way and grab a slice - which is 1/4 of a 19" pie. after loading it with veggies, I already know that works out to 750 calories. that still doesn't bring me up to my recommended daily calories, so I bought a bottle of wine in the hopes that I can top off the calories with a glass or two and make it to 1200. I don't even want it, I'm so absolutely not even hungry tonight, but I'm going to make it fit. I know my nature, and my shitty attitude toward food in that if I'm melting pounds, I'll keep doing what's working. between that and my appetite shrinking as the regular daily intake shrinks, it's a given that the two will spiral together. I definitely feel better with the food choices I've been making the past couple weeks, but the I don't think it is going to end well if I go long term as I am now. thoughts? help? please and thank you.

When going paleo you have to be very careful to make sure you get enough calories. Without the carbs appetite drops and it is so easy to get by on unhealthy low calories. Spinach for lunch? Totally not enough. Add in some chicken or another protein. Maybe consider preplanning your meals? Get in protein and fat at lunch. Have an apple and some nut butter. Adding in some calorie dense foods will help keep you calories up and your energy up. Congrats on the 8lbs. Honestly, a lot of people who go paleo experience a big loss straight away. It isn't too uncommon and will level off to a healthier loss.

that's the thing - lunch is typically my big meal of the day. I head to Whole Foods and hit the hot bar. I grab whatever veggie catches my eye (usually spicy sauteed collard greens) and a good 1/2 lb of some form of meat in a dairy-free dish (usually chicken thighs from the cacciatore) and a huge bottle of water. my snacks have been where the healthy fats have come in - roasted/unsalted almonds, or snap peas as a vehicle for guacamole. that said, that "big meal of the day" has been after a much smaller breakfast than what I had today. today's breakfast was by design, knowing I had an appointment over lunch. I've done that for years w/o much trouble though - a breakfast burrito (~450 calories) to last me until a snack when I got home on Fridays after working through lunch to leave early. if it hadn't been the huge bowl of spinach for lunch, it would have been a clementine like it was yesterday after the same breakfast. yesterday's clementine was 70 calories per MFP. at least the spinach was triple digits. what I just said to my sis was WTF is wrong with me? what is wrong with my wiring that I allow myself to sink into incredibly unhealthy patterns once I start seeing results? I've never really eaten a lot in one sitting/meal, I don't know how much that has to do with things. grumpy, pissed at myself, and going to be calling it an early night anyway. I just poured a 2nd glass to help bump the calories and I feel pretty damn buzzed right now.

Hugs chiver. It is rough... If a healthy lifestyle were simple everyone would be walking around with rocking bodies. It takes work... Finding what works for you and is healthy and finding a way to make it a lifestyle takes time and a lot of work. We'll get there!!!
