Chiver - not eating enough calories for one day is not an unhealthy eating pattern - but if it concerns you, then yes, you should adjust. (For the record, after cutting out booze I am also down 8 lbs since new year's, and I am very carefully exercising and tracking all my calories.) I agree with sarcastic about planning out your day. If you are having trouble getting in the right calories, I also suggest snacking. But don't let one day get you down. You will get things normalized and stabilized, I have faith!
(Off to do circuits in the basement. I don't waaaaaaaannaaaaaaa....)

Also - if you need something with a ton of calories, may I suggest peanut butter as a future option? Much less food for the amount of calories vs. pizza or wine...

Peanut butter isn't paleo (apparently peanuts are legumes? dumb!) But other nutbutters offer the same calorie dense perks! So exhausted today. Got my 10k did some core work. So ready for bed. Mizbear - get well soon! Chiver - I second Sarcastic & Bsbound's suggestion. More protein somewhere and maybe you would do better with snacking a lot instead of big meals? Don't be mad at yourself though. You tried something, it worked for a little while, then it didn't. When you realized it wasn't working, you stopped to adjust and reassess. That's the most important thing really - you recognized something wasn't working and you're trying to figure out what to change. That's 90% of the battle sometimes. I totally blew my meager exercise plan yesterday. Instead of walking the dogs like I had originally planned I ended up eating dinner and vegging out on the couch. Not cool. But yesterday is gone. And today was much better. The dogs and I did our little half mile walk around the block. We actually ended up jogging the first quarter of the walk though. They were so excited and full of energy! We had a blast. After our walk, I got some chores done around the house. Not much calorie burn to speak of, but at least I was moving around and not couch surfing. Still doing well on the calorie count too. Even when I don't manage to get any type of exercise in, I am still able to stay within my calorie goal. And best of all, tomorrow is Friday! I am soooooo ready for the weekend!

Just finished my circuits/weights. Cut down my regular 60 minutes to 40 tonight because I just couldn't hack the idea of a full 60 minutes. Shockingly, 60 squats instead of 90 is still enough to set my buns quivering... Ready as I'm gonna get for the party tomorrow night. Then gotta find some way to swim on Saturday.
Hoping against hope the scale is kind to me tomorrow morning.

So I remember now why eating primal never sticks longterm... I am so picky with veggies. It isn't fair. There are only a handful of veggies that I like and a couple more that I tolerate... But many flat out make me gag. It sucks because I love all fruits with the exception of grapefruit and bananas. Anything else, YUM! I can eat most veggies in soup, so I am going to whip up a big pot this weekend. *sigh* I just get tired of soup. Ending rant now.

Sracastic - that's so funny - I'm the opposite. I'm totally on board with any vegetables, but I hate fruit! (Seriously I can't think of a veggie I would not eat.) Pretty much the only fruits I like are citrus. I will tolerate apples or berries if they are in something else, but most fruit makes me gag.

thanks for the hugs. I was definitely a head case last night. sarcastic is right - peanut butter is not paleo. that, and beans are the reason I would never do this as a permanent lifestyle change. they are their own food group, for real. okay, so to answer the couple questions that came up about not worrying about one day's not making calories - 650 calories is not normal, unless you're legitimately sick and buried under a pillow fort on the couch. and I was almost all set to just call it a night and go to bed. I am not sick. that's just nuts. I know y'all don't know my mom, but that is exactly how my mom's brain works. she would have gone to bed, woken up this AM and hopped on the scale to see how much her "sacrifice" had paid off. seriously, and that's how she raised my sis and me. the difference between us and her is that we know that's not a healthy outlook and we do try to not live that way. sometimes, like last night, it just sneaks up on us. we've both had days like that. so, I guess I need to figure out how to get more calories in. I don't really snack, that's not a habit that was ever encouraged when I was a kid. going to have to work on that, I guess. and keep almonds at my desk. that's easy enough.

Pretty much the only fruits I like are citrus. I will tolerate apples or berries if they are in something else, but most fruit makes me gag. you are so lucky!!! my life would be so much easier if I loved more veggies. I should only have 1 or 2 fruits a day- tops. But I could totally have 5. If I have 5 servings of veggies in a day then it is a freaking miracle. a while back I went on a quest to try to find different ways in which to make veggies where I could tolerate them. My poor DH ate SO SO many veggies after I would try a recipe, have high hopes, gag... then pass them all over to him. I ended up with 1 brussel sprout recipe and 2 cauliflower recipes that were okay. I should start trying that again...

Oh, I know peanut butter isn't paleo. But it's just as not-paleo as pizza and wine, and has more protein...
Chiver - I totally get that when you come from a history of disordered *anything* it can be scary when you recognize those patterns emerging. And totally agree with sarcastic on the healthy fats. If you are seriously missing calories and fats I've heard some paleo people take shots of grapeseed or olive oil.
Also, how many calories are you trying to get in a day? My dr gave me a handout that was really shocking to me - it said most women can safely eat only 1000 calories per day without your body thinking you are starving, aka "starvation mode." This actually really helped me - on days when I have not had enough calories but am just not that hungry, it is helpful to know I only need to eat 400 vs. 800. I can eat what I want without stuffing myself.
Do you have a plan for today?

shots of oil? I can't wrap my brain around that. as far as the pizza, I was standing in front of the fish counter at the grocery store, thinking about how I was still going to have to cook it and put together a salad, and I was just so tired and I said "fuck it, I'm getting pizza" like I said, I was a total head case last night. MFP tells me I should have 1540 calories in order to lose 1lb/week. I try to get between 1200-1540. don't really have a plan for today yet. I wasn't really hungry when I woke up, still full from that pizza I guess. breakfast was my typical vat-o-unsweetened passion tea from Starbucks (0 calories) with a clementine and some almonds when I got to work. (~200 calories) and I'm comfortable. I think I'll go explore at Whole Foods for lunch. if I end up with some mashed potatoes under the collard greens, it's not the end of the world. sarcasticgirl - how do you cook your brussels sprouts? those are a favorite of mine

I think if you are paleo 80-90% of the time, you are doing pretty well. Most people I know that are paleo as a lifestyle leave a some margin for non paleo every now and then.
Brussel sprouts- I chop bacon and cook it in a pan, once done, remove the bacon and add the halved brussel sprouts (Seasoned with salt and pepper) roast for a while until just about done... then toss in some apple cider enough to at least cover the bottom of the pan... cook until apple cider is gone. then toss in the cooked bacon. something magic about the apple cider that make the sprouts edible!

Chiver - fun paleo snack: halve brussel sprouts and then peel them a bit - take the outer leaves off, I will take off 5-6 leaves from each head. Toss with olive oil, salt and pepper. Spread out on a pan and roast, along with other sprouts for 15 min or so. Sprouts are cooked, and those leaves you took off end up crisping up like little brussel sprout chips. They are freaking delicious and crispy! DH and I make these, but somehow there are never enough of the "chips" and they never seem to make it to the storage container ...

that's pretty similar to what I do with my sprouts. I'll parboil for a 3-4 minutes to make sure they are fully cooked when I'm done. while they are boiling, I'll chop pancetta and get it going. after boiling, the sprouts go straight into the pan with the pancetta. all I add is salt and pepper, and if it's going to sit out on a buffet table for a holiday meal, I'll add some chicken stock. and the 80-90% is what I've heard from friends that have made the change permanent. I've been at 100% paleo (other than the beer at the basketball game) trying to crank the pounds down. just gotta rewire my brain to not follow the patterns I learned so long ago... I'll get there. y'all will just have to humor my "head case" nights sometimes. thanks in advance.

bsbound - I do that with kale. tear up the leaves, lightly spray some olive oil and a little bit of sea salt, and roast for 10 minutes or so. they will literally melt in your mouth!

Fat bombs are basically cream cheese (room temp), butter (room temp) and Splenda (or whatever sweetener), blended together, dolloped onto wax paper and frozen. There are many variations to it: Lemon extract, unsweetened cocoa powder, etc. My fave is using orange extract. People often use coconut oil in theirs. Google it. You'll see.

As a fellow veggie- hater ( I like corn, carrots, broccoli and lettuce...) I will have to try some of these recipes!
Also, today was my weigh in day and the scale was the same! Very odd! I wonder if it's because of AF? I'll keep to my food plan and see what happens next week. i'd like to get out and walk, but it's supposed to snow off and on all weekend. we'll see.

that sounds interesting, Iggy. not sure it's my cup of tea though. so I wandered around the hot bar at Whole Foods. there wasn't much that looked appealing today, but I made do. got a scoop of mashed potatoes, picked some chicken (thigh chunks) out of a chicken stew, and piled in collards, green beans and a couple steamed broccoli florets. overall, a healthy plate IMHO. in hindsight though, I should have just grabbed a sushi roll. missk - AF?

It just occurred to me that I am eating really low carb, for the most part. Sometimes I sneak a few M&Ms at work, but other than that pretty much the only thing I eat that has net carbs in it is almonds and a few green veggies. Occassionally a bit of hummuus or carrots. Interesting...

I do better- even being diabetic- when I eat carbs- than when I don't. It's like I have to have carbs and flavor and occasional meat or someone's life could become endangered-
And chocolate....
I am having a spa night tonight.
Mom is taking care of a sick friend...

Went grocery shopping tonight and am trying out a new minestrone soup this weekend (leftovers for lunch) and have planned a backup lunch and my breakfasts for next week. That is the good news. Bad news is we made a quick stop at Popeye's for dinner... 3 chicken tenders (which is 310 cals) not horrible. They gave me 12 fries- I counted lol and a biscuit. The biscuit is freaking 260,calories- not worth it! So 700 calorie dinner... Which puts me at just over 2000 calories for the day. Ugh. And now i have a belly ache. I got my 10k steps in... So that will at least have me breaking even for the day.

Phew - forced myself to get on the treadmill for 20 minutes this evening. I spent two hours this afternoon playing with DS at the park, so after that and getting dinner on the table and DS to bed, I was tired, but I powered through - woo hoo!
