Well, I'm up a pound again today. Who knows? I was supposed to do weights last night, but felt really sick so just got a bunch of sitting around stuff done (like sending photos to walgreens for printing.) Hopefully will be up for weights tonight!

Doing okay so far this week. Well, I guess it is only Tuesday! I used up most of my WW extra points over the weekend, but I should be able to stay within the daily points during the week.
I am a few steps closer to exercising again- my inlaws are giving us their treadmill and my husband is buying a weight machine! With a baby I have no illusions of doing hardcore workouts, but 20 minutes 3 times a week seems doable!
Also, I think one of my goals should be that when we eat out, I need to pick a healthy option, not the option that sounds the best!
So far I've had 7/33 points today.

Aw, sorry BSB! Hopefully you'll feel better soon. Good going, sarastic and missk! I'm up .8 pound today, which is strange because I didn't really eat a full supper and had only 22 carbs yesterday. Oh, well, today is a new day.

I survived spinning class #3 and have a plan to try something new tomorrow. The scale is going in the wrong direction but I'm blaming the week of the month (and some bad birthday eating).

Kilroy - hooray spinning class! In terms of the scale, welcome to the "I don't know quite why it's doing that" club! Sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday - I hope it was a great one!

Is there anyone else here who generally benefits from measuring, portioning, pre-portioning, pre-prepping, etc items so tjat they are already prepared and.ready to go? My Mom doesn't understand the concept...

Mizbear, I do and it is oh, so convenient! When I am being good and focused (and remember! ), I wash and cut fresh produce, boil and peel eggs, etc. on Sundays. What reallllly has been helping is if I prep a few fresh salads as well: Rinse, dry and tear Romaine leaves (or whatever greens) into medium size lidded containers, top w/ a can of tuna or 1/2 can each canned chicken, a few berries, pepperoni slices, olives, cucumber slices, etc. I have dressings here in the office mini fridge, and nuts for a bit of a crunch in a file drawer. Speaking of nuts, I divide them into serving sizes and put them into small lidded containers. This keeps me from eating an entire bag during stressful office times. So, in the mornings, from my fridge drawer, I'll pull a salad, a container of a low carb snack such as mock tater salad (cauliflower), berries, etc. I'll also devil 2 eggs each into a smaller container, mix w/ mustard, mayo and a dash s&p for breakfasts sometimes. I sooooo do not wake up early.

Mizbear - I pre-portioned for a long time, now I eat pretty much the same thing every day and I know the portions by heart. I pack my lunch and snacks every night so all I have to do in the morning is throw them in my lunch bag and go.

I don't necessarily pre-portion, but I do pre-prep. last night, I chopped a batch of salad greens for the week - 1 head of iceberg, half of radicchio, and a few romaine leaves. even if I just throw greens in a bowl w/vinaigrette, the work's already done. saves me from snacking on stuff I shouldn't be. thinking about that spaghetti pie again, I will probably pre-portion that when I make the next batch - into small foil loaf pans, so that I can reheat in the toaster oven at work rather than the microwave.

I always pre-prep. Also bag my lunch the night before. My scale hasn't moved. I've been snacking too much at night. I'm going to try to lower my carb intake. What's a good carb per day number, without going crazy like Atkins? I just found a flatbread/wrap in the store with 12 g carbs. Better than the lite bread.

Happy prose - try 50 carbs a day maybe?
Mizbear - your mom seems to kind of be a saboteur. Like, she doesn't feel like she will succeed, so she doesn't want anyone to. But it could also be that she is not a planner and is uncomfortable with structure - I have friends like that who are late to work every morning because they cannot decide what to wear the night before/pack their lunch/plan what to have for breakfast. They like deciding in the moment, which takes much longer. I prefer structure, obviously.
Well, I did my workout, despite really not wanting to. DH's work party is on Friday, so that will be my day off. Unfortunately, because I skipped yesterday that means I will be doing weights (tonight), swim (tomorrow), weights (Thurs.) I should really be ready for a Fri day off by then, lol!

Hi all. I know I haven't posted/checked in, but I have been following along. Sugi - thanks for the gold stars Kilroy - bsbound - you're working so hard and getting so close to your goal that I am just super stoked for you! chiver & sarcastic - you ladies and your stick-to-it-tiveness are great to watch dolphins - snacks are my downfall too. I've had to put a tight watch on my evening snacks. Both before and after dinner Iggy - I use my plate at livestrong too. I liked it because it I was able to put in recipes for meals I cook. But I saw chiver's comment that my fitness pal is actually easier to deal with when doing home cooked meals. I have MFP downloaded on the kindle, so I will have to check it out. mizbear - prep and pre-portion is definitely the way to go for me. It just seems to make things so much easier. Sorry your mom isn't on the pre-portion bandwagon So, my first full week of 2014 sucked all the way around. In terms of food, exercise, motivation, just all of it. But, this second full week has been better. I sucked it up, put the disappointment behind me and trudged on. I set a calorie goal of 1700 per day. According to the my plate, with my, ahem, "sedentary" activity level, that should be sufficient to drop a pound a week which would be more than enough to meet my goal for this year. It's been pretty easy to stick to the calorie goal. I just have to put thought into which foods I choose so I don't get hungry. I also had to ditch my evening snacks. That was hard, but only due to habit. I munch in the evenings just because, not because I'm hungry. I haven't managed to get any exercise in this week. And, I also haven't set up a routine yet. I think for this week, I want my goal to be walking my dogs twice this week. I should be able to fit that in today and tomorrow easily. It's about 1/2 a mile around our little "block". And the walks really help them get rid of some of their pent up energy. It's not a very ambitious goal, but hey, gotta start somewhere. We're doing real numbers now, huh? OK. Here goes. 1/1 209.0 1/12 206.8 1/14 207.2 I'm only 5'5.5" (and I lie about that extra half inch), so I have some work to do. I was down pretty good on Sunday, but I was sure it was all just water weight. I was pretty dehydrated and I knew it. I was glad to see last night that - surprise - not all of it was water weight. I'm taking that 1.8 pounds! I'll be around intermittently. But I am still following along and rooting for everyone!

Thanks for the kind words- Marion! And congrats on the loss!
Starting with small goals is a great idea... Once you have those under your belt- add in another. It is a fantastic way to make progress.
So- I totally didn't want to do a thing last night- but when I got home I had barely cracked 6,000 steps. So, I got to walking at home. I take about 4 steps forward and 4 back in quick succession while I watch TV. Last night I added in some hand weights. I ended the night at over 12000 steps. God, I cannot wait for warmer weather and some daylight in the evening. But for now, walking in front if the TV will have to do.

Static this morning on the scale at 181.6. I have to lose 10 lbs now by the end of Feb. Given the scale's stubbornness over the last few days, despite my really strict adherance to diet makes me a little nervous.
Sarcastic - check out the haribo gummy bears thread...

Thanks for the stars Sugilite!!! I went over my points a bit yesterday, Started my cycle and reeally had to have some chocolate! Didn't too bad. I popped on the scale and it's the same as last week. That might be ok considering everything. Official weigh in is Friday though, so I still have time to lose! My husband bought a weight machine yesterday and is bringing it home today. I am excited! Good luck sarcastic! I hear the flu is going around...

Part of Mom's thing with pre-portioning is it makes it easier for me to say- "No, we can't go eat out at XYZ tonight because we already have ABC ready to eat" Or "No Mom I don't want you to bring me a beef n cheddar and Jamocha shake and cheddar fries because I already have my meal portioned out" Or "No Mom - You get one nag of this and one container of that, etc, etc"
My mother loses weight the unhealthy way- skipping meals- she eats one meal a day and then thinks she should be rewarded for weighing 4 pounds less than me and being a 16 on the bottom when I am a 10-12... NOT!
SHe has no clue about portion sizes, budget or anything else.
And No, she doesn't want me to succeed.
Her new friend is 74 years old and they are 2 peas in a pod. One is clueless and the other one thinks she knows everything.
Sugi- I don't know that I am deserving of stars... feels like I am back to last year, fighting the same old battle with Mom...

Kilroy- Happy belated birthday!
and thanks guys- i'll keep the gummi bears as my back up LOL
I figure, I've lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks... even with my crazy PMS eating. so 5 in 2 weeks is possible... right?

I started January at 138 lbs. I am now at 135.5. I would like to get down to 125 lbs eventually. This morning I tried to cut down on some of my breakfast calories by not putting butter on my 2 slices of toast. I can actually eat toast without butter and like it. I also walk in my house by walking and jogging forward and backwards to add a few extra steps to my day. I have also dug out my old Leslie Sansone walking tapes and started those again. I also will be glad when it gets nice out to walk outside.

SHe has no clue about portion sizes, budget or anything else. are you my long-lost sister? seriously - my mother would forego meals if she only had enough $ for a meal or a pack of cigarettes. and don't even get me started about the unhealthy food attitudes she instilled in my sis and me. we both struggle with that daily. thanks, ma. I guess my advice to you would be to keep plugging along with what you know works for you - pre-portioning. if Mom doesn't like it, she can do her own thing. don't worry about her, especially if she's bent on sabotaging you.

thanks for the stars, Sugi. and the kind words, Marion! so yesterday I dipped below that magic 200 mark - which I haven't seen in over 3 years. must have been dehydration, b/c this am was 200.8. I'm totally okay with that, because I'm still moving in the right direction. today's going to be interesting. I'm going to the Celtics game with some co-workers tonight. I already told them I wanted to leave work early enough to grab dinner outside the arena, so I wouldn't be stuck with the mostly unhealthy (and very NOT paleo) options inside. they are cool with that, so yay. I woke up really hungry, so I went to the caf here at work and got a veggie-loaded omelet (w/no cheese) and a couple strips of bacon. MFP calc'd that plus the coffee I needed to get out of bed this AM at 428 calories. that should hold me over almost totally until dinner, I'm so stuffed. I've got a couple clementines and some almonds in case I need to snack though. so for dinner, I'm going to do my best to find a green salad on whatever menu and add some lean protein. there's a bunch of good options around North Station, so I'm not too worried.
