I could have done with less than the 1/8 cup of syrup I used. A serving was 1/4 cup and when I looked at the calories I decided to cut it in half. I could of also cut the 1/8 cup in half to at least get a taste of it and still would have been satisfied. I will do that next time.
I need to finish the rest of my day logging and then I can add or delete if I eat something different or less of it.
Good luck!

On my work days I usually eat plain oatmeal but when I am off I try to make eggs, pancakes, or French toast.

I have to somewhat plan my meals in advance in order to stay in my calorie range. If I log everything after I eat it, I can't change plans if I am over. Good luck to you. it can be tedious... but is a complete eye opener.

It definitely is an eye opener. Especially since the first few days I logged I had between 1000 and 1500 calories just on snacks.

Not a good exercise weekend for me. Had a wisdom tooth pulled Friday, and I'm taking 800mg motrin and an antibiotic. Planned to go to the gym today, but my stomach doesn't feel right. Excuses, excuses.....! And yesterday I over ate. I feel pathetic.

Do you ever exercise just so that you can eat more? I want to have a greek yogurt tonight and my calorie count won't allow it so I exercised and now it does allow it. A greek yogurt is better than chocolate, right?

I do try and burn some extra calories in anticipation of eating extra calories, or in order to burn off extra calories. I don't make a habit of it... But I do it from time to time.

Dolphins - I definitely try to exercise if I know I am going to be over, e.g., thanksgiving I swam 2 miles in the morning. The thing you have to be careful with is exercise makes you hungry, so you really have to watch your serving sizes after you exercise to make sure you're not overeating!
I am up two pounds today, for NO apparent reason. I had a 1/4 cup of ice cream last night, but I was down like 300 calories for the day, so I'm pretty sure it's water retention. The food I ate yesterday was kinda salty... hoping that's it. Swam today, but I had a really hard time finding my stroke and so I didn't have a very good swim overall. Kind of a downer day...

I made half a squash's worth of this recipe today, since I had it kicking around in the fridge. I used chicken sausage links (sliced) and added some baby spinach and cremini mushrooms to the mix. I am absolutely doing it again, for a full squash - and adding more spinach and mushrooms than I did this time. putting the recipe into MFP, as I will be making it again, it worked out to 286 calories/serving. what I did today was actually lighter b/c I only had one sausage link instead of two for the same size batch. Paleo spaghetti piethat said, I need to figure out better ways to get calories before playing hockey. I was almost negative for the day after accounting for the game - I spent most of the game shaky, and I downed a small Gatorade before leaving the rink. when I got home, I broke Paleo and baked off a processed chicken patty - there's still a few in the freezer - which I put in a taco-sized tortilla with a smear of spicy guac from a 100-calorie tub of Wholly Guacamole. after putting the game and the snacks into MFP, I still supposedly have over 1k calories left. basic accounting, I didn't hit 1200 - which is definitely not good. maybe I'll use Sunday as my "cheat" day - where I allow myself black beans, or peanut butter or something. all I know is I spent most of the game feeling like I could hurl.

Chiver - for sure you gotta get the hockey thing under control! I would totally agree with Sunday being a cheat day - it's hard to get enough calories in to account for that much activity when you are mostly eating meat and veggies. Protein shake before the game maybe? Not strictly paleo, but should give you some energy and protein to make it through? Good luck!
Well, after all my whining yesterday, I weighed in this morning minus the two pounds of water retention and minus another pound! I did make sure to drink a lot of water yesterday, so apprently that helped get rid of the sodium. So this means I only have 7 pounds to go to reach 35 lbs down since September - here's hoping DH holds up his end of the deal.
Also, after being on here last night I went "shopping" in my old clothes downstairs. About half of my size 12 clothes fit! Sitting comfortably for 12 hours is another story, but give me another week and I will be wearing those to work! Super-excited about that.
One of the things that I realized is that I have been dressing really, really badly for work since I've had all this weight on. Part of it is the difficulty of finding nice clothes in bigger sizes, part of it was not wanting to "invest" in decent clothes when I was sure I wouldn't be this heavy for "long." But a big part of it was just not liking how my body looked, no matter what I was wearing, and hiding as much as possible. I'm glad to be getting back to a point where I feel more comfortable and more at home in my body. And I can wear my pre-pregnancy work wardrobe, which is much nicer and more stylish!!! Important if I want that promotion, too...

yeah, my sis gave me a smoothie recipe to try out that has a banana as the base to thicken it up. I was set to try it out this morning until I got down to the kitchen and couldn't bring myself to actually put it in the blender. (I hate, hate bananas) so we'll see how that goes. I was still a little bit queasy from last night, I think. talking with a friend of mine this AM who went primal about a year ago (paleo + some dairy) and has been feeling way better since the switch, she said that I should reintroduce some foods like beans or peanut butter and see how my body reacts - if I don't react negatively like most do after "cheat" days, then I don't have to worry about excluding them entirely. again, we'll see. next Sunday, my game is immediately after the AFC championship, and I'm pretty limited by the menu at the pub where I'm likely watching the game - much closer to the rink than my house, so I won't have to miss as much of the game to make it to the rink in time. bsb - yay for losing water weight. weight is weight! I am absolutely with you about not wanting to invest much money on clothes because we don't plan to be heavy so long. for the past 2 years, I've been wearing $15 Walmart trouser-cut yoga pants to work and not really giving a shit. yesterday I pulled out a pair of jeans I haven't worn in a couple years and they fit! like you said - not for sitting comfortably for 12 hours, but in a week or so they will be fine. have fun shopping in your closet, I can't wait to get back into more of mine

Chiver- Adding in Fat when you are paleo is extremely important. 1. it will help keep your calorie count up and 2. it is being used as energy instead of carbs. I found that just eating fruits/veg/protein... I could be satisfied on 1000 calories a day, which clearly isn't enough. Throwing in some nuts and some other things, like BACON! helped me keep my calorie count up and kept me from getting "HANGRY"
BSB- CONGRATS! I cannot wait to be able to shop in my own closet again. and I know exactly how you feel. I to have been dressing in whatever cheap larger sized clothes I could find and not feeling cute. I found that in doing so, I felt crappy about myself which just made me depressed and not motivated at all. It was like a downward spiral. I have been trying to find some deals on clothes that I can feel comfortable and confident in until I can drop 1 more size and start shopping from my closet. I am so motivated for spring time and cute clothes!!!!!

Congrats, bsb! That's awesome!
We took the kiddo to the park on Saturday and Sunday, and walked around the trails as well while there. And I walked on the treadmill last night, so yay for staying active.

chiver - I hate bananas too. I would rather cut myself than drink a shake made with them. Could you thicken it with whey powder or something instead? No way I'd be putting bananas in anything.

I guess I didn't realize just how little I had in the tank from what I had eaten by game time. that's going to be my new challenge - make sure I get 1200 calories!

No way I'd be putting bananas in anything. nope - whey is dairy. I think I'll wait until the weekend (when I have time to cook something else instead) to see if I like it. the 2 bananas I bought are still pretty yellow, so they should last til then. FWIW, my sis hates bananas almost as much as I do and she said she can deal with it. I'll just have to make sure there's enough berries and kale in there to cover it up.

Hi all! May I join you? I was referred to this thread. Chive, I am going to make the spaghetti pie recipe above. I'm following a low carb plan, so your recipe will fit in nicely. 2012-Lost 32 pounds, gained back about half 2013-Ended the year 4+ up 2014-I've lost three thus far, but am back at it hard core as of yesterday.

Do it! 40/lbs in a year is less than 1lb a week. If you can stick to a healthy routine it's totally doable! (Also add some resistance training for workout/weight loss boost!)

welcome, iggy! ARGH! I'm at 1400 calories for the day already and haven't had dinner. Too much peanut butter today... 2tbs on my english muffin and 2 tbs with my apple. I forgot I had already had it this morning or I would have skipped it on the apple. So dinner will be grilled chicken and veggies. I'll keep it under 300 calories... 1700 calories isn't TOO bad- should still give me at least a 500 calorie deficit for the day.

I had grilled salmon and tomato soup today.
I'm grilling up some chicken tonight... for lunches this week.
I'll skip the PB... I'm almost out anyway.

Thanks for the welcome, sarcastic! I use myplate on livestrong.com to track my carbs. Similar to calories, they sure add up quickly!

I tried myplate for awhile, didn't really like how much of a pain it was to set up regular recipes. IMHO, my fitness pal is much more user-friendly. but I cook a lot, and will be even more now with going paleo for now. but options are good so MFP tells me I still have 955 calories for the day. ugh. <chiver reaches for another handful of almonds> my plan for tonight was going to be some sort of baked fish over a big green salad. hopefully that's enough calories. I'm not starving, just typical hungry for this hour of the day.

they are so yummy! I love roasted unsalted from Whole Paycheck. not a fan of the salted ones. pistachios though, those need a little salt. speaking of....I wonder if those are okay for paleo. going to have to look into that! so I decided to change the plan for dinner tonight, since it seems adding (healthy) fats is probably a good idea. rather than go with fish over a salad, I'm going to work on the leftovers in the fridge. there isn't a full serving of anything, so it's a good mishmash! -finished off the taco-spiced ground turkey in a lettuce wrap w/guac. that was tasty, and will absolutely stay in the rotation. -one "portion" of spaghetti pie left - really, about 1/4 of a serving by recipe calcs. I just cut the pan into 6 out of habit. -one last chicken cutlet, S/P seasoned and sauteed last Tuesday. will cut that up over a salad w/vinaigrette. and if somehow I am still craving crunchies, there is an unopened bag of sugar snap peas in the crisper drawer. oh, and I poured a glass of wine. I still don't think that all adds up to 955, but 955 gets me to the "recommended" daily intake, not 1200. my recommended number is 1610 or something about that.
