It's not an autoimmune disorder; I was born with a neurological condition called hydrocephalus and as a result I have a headful of "crap"; 2 shunts, pools of backed-up cerebrospinal fluid and a ton of scar tissue. That's what makes my head hurt, and no dietary change in the world is going to fix it. And I go to maybe one concert every five years and otherwise live a really unloud life, so avoiding stuff like that isn't a longterm solution.
Sorry I sound so cranky, I know you're all trying to help, it's just that I've absolutely exhausted every possibility that doesn't involve cutting my head open, and I'm not doing that except in a life or death situation (plus, they couldn't even promise that would help). So that leaves me with nothing, and I'm angry that nobody can fix this and I'm just supposed to live with it.

I'm sorry, I wasn't very active in last year's thread. I didn't know. I hope you can find something that works.

OK, Kilroy, am going to throw out one last thought/suggestion that maybe you haven't heard... Stimulants can make pain worse. They make my pain worse, in particular, and I talked to my doctor about it as well. He said something about stimulants make nerves more sensitive or soemthing? It wasn't super-relevant to my treatment, so I didn't pay super-close attention. I know that you mentioned starbucks before - if you drink a lot of caffeine or are a smoker, apparently that can make your other pain levels worse, as well as triggering headaches from withdrawal as well. Obviously, I don't know if this is the case, but it might be worth a shot if you are a regular coffee drinker or smoke? Again, hugs. I know you're frustrated, and I would be too. I've been not exactly where you are, but someplace close to it. I'm sorry you've run out of acceptable, available options.

I don't smoke & never have, but I do drink coffee. But the headaches predate the coffee drinking by a decade or so & I've never noticed any difference in what my head does based on anything I've eaten/not eaten/drunk/not drunk. I've actually cut my coffee consumption by about 40% in the past year, didn't make a bit of difference.
Again, sorry, I know you're all trying to help

Don't be sorry. It can suck when everyone is offering suggestions that don't work for you.

Ugh! I have been a bottomless pit for the past 2 days. It happens every month, thanks uterus! I spend 3-4 days being perpetually hungry. My stomach growls an hour or 2 after eating... So annoying. Luckily, this is usually followed by a few days of not really wanting to eat. So hopefully it will all balance out.

I've managed a completely paleo day today (got another day or so before I'm totally through the ends of leftovers in the fridge) by accident, and I'm both full and completely exhausted with no workout at all. I'm going to blame last night's late night at trivia. tomorrow night's goal is to locate my yoga mat in the boxes from packing up to list my house last spring. if I'm going to tackle some Jillian Michaels DVDs in my living room now that I have hardwood floors, I'm going to need it! if I can find it quickly, I'll pop a DVD in.

Well, I officially had the weirdest swim ever today. About half-way through my workout, an old man wandered on deck completely naked. I did like a triple-take at the old man butt. He thought about getting in the pool, wandered around the deck for a while, got in the shower, THEN put his swim trunks on and got in the Jacuzzi. Old man peen, just the thing to make you swim faster... He didn't seem like a perv, wasn't leering or anything, I think he just has the rules of naked place/not naked place confused.
Finished my workout, got to the locker room and my nose started bleeding like crazy! It didn't stop for almost 30 minutes. In the meantime, I'm standing there in my swimsuit over a sink stuffing paper towels up my nose trying not to create a biohazard. Special shout out to the women who stood there staring at me and muttering to each other about how disgusting that was. Hey ladies, I agree! Usually though, when I see someone bleeding I ask if there's anything I can do, rather than giving them dirty looks. Would you prefer I go bleed in the pool or on the gym equipment?
Sleeping with the Kleenex box real close tonight - may see if I still have one of those big bed pads from after B was born to cover my pillow.
Also, sarcastic, I'm right there with you on the bottomless pit. Period expected any day.
Good times.

I walked on the treadmill again tonight. I also had a site visit this morning, so I spent more the day than normal on my feet on a rooftop. Tomorrow I'm flying to a site visit for the day, so between a 7am flight out and not getting back to my home airport until 9pm, I doubt a workout happens.

I just laughed out loud at the old man peen. My fellow brown line riders probably thing I am crazy. That is a great story- minus the bloody nose and the bitches. Think it might be due to the dry weather? The nose bleed, that is... Not the bitches. Here's hoping today is the last day of bottomless pit activity. I need to continue my progress hard core for the dietbet!

Sorry kilroy. Late nights suck! I was up late too, trying to get the furnace taken care of (oh yeah, furnace went out again last night because FML.) Super-tired today, and evening will either be spent packing up to go to inlaws or rearranging basement in anticipation of seepage/flooding once the temp rises tomorrow and all the snow melts and the rain hits... At least that will be physical movement?

Made it to the gym tonight, and also mall walked this morning before work. Feeling good! Tomorrow I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled after work, so no gym.

Well, even though I don't actually have a period- my thanks to the depo shot, (everyone who remembers what I was like before depo also thanks depo) I do get the monthly bloating and weight gain, so I am up to 193 and ounces right now- depending on which spot in the bathroom floor you pur the scale..... And actually only an 8 pound gain is not bad for me- usually I gain like 15 pounds....
I have to be burning calories with all of the cleaning and purging I am doing around the house though....
Monthly hormones would also explain mood swings and extreme food cravings- most of which I have not acted on....

Big workout fail last night. Was supposed to do circuits, but just couldn't make myself do it. Will do tonight, though. Have told DH not to let me slack off. Maybe I'll get him to do it with me...

Happy with progress this week
153.4 ners 155.6 (1/4/2014) Lost 2.2 this week.
Thanks sarcasticsnowflake for the step motivation. You have done great keeping getting your steps.
On Wednesday one of my co workers called me the incredible shrinking women. ( I felt great that day. Had fit into a size 12 wool suite that I had not worn in years. Added benefit it kept me warm)

i woke up this morning thinking i was having some kind of heart attack or something. pain radiating across my chest and down both arms. then I realized, oh... i must be sore from Thurs. night's upper body work out and all those damn chest flys. sad because I did all the weight work with 3lb dumbells and my arms are incredibly sore. Gotta (re)start somewhere though. of course I am up 2 pounds today... i'm assuming due to the sore muscles.
Have gotten over 10K steps everyday this week except yesterday. I'm giving myself 1 day a week off if I need it and I wasn't feeling so spry yesterday. stomach issues and cramps. ugh

I walked on the treadmill again last night, and kept up with taking extra flights of stairs all week at work to get in small bursts of exercise during the workday. Today's goal is to walk to the park later with DS and DH, and then chase DS around the park before walking home.

Well I did get my workout in last night, but I got a back cramp while stretching afterwards and DH had to come downstairs to help me get off the floor.
Workout was hard while I was doing it, but not too sore today, so that's good. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

still haven't made it to the gym yet, I've been having the hardest time dragging my ass out of bed in the morning. I started taking a 1000IU dose of vitamin D in the mornings again, once that kicks in I should be good to go. I'm awful, my pic should seriously be in the dictionary next to the entry for Seasonal Affective Disorder. that said, I do have a hockey game tomorrow. so that's a plus. AND, with the paleo menu going on, I've managed to lose the bloat from eating like an idiot over the holidays plus another couple pounds - I am down 6lbs from my start weight in my challenge. woot! I suppose I should put some numbers to this: 02Jan 208.6 10Jan 202.4

I have 24 Weeks until my 20th reunion. If I can lose an average of 3 pounds a week (I know, this means a ton of work), I will be down 72 pounds... I need lots of good juju.

what's your overall goal, mizbear? I have to confess I don't have the thread history since I fell off the wagon (onboard here anyway) last year. 3lbs a week is aggressive for sure. just want to make sure we're not encouraging you to attempt unhealthy losses.

I am somewhere between 62 & 64 inches tall and right now topping in at 193+ thanks to my hormones. 121 would be pretty close to perfection given I have a very small frame and DDS.

I only did so-so on the elliptical this morning, and probably undid the whole thing by stopping at Starbucks for my free birthday drink But free is good, right?

I am getting serious about my calorie count. I think I have been going at it backwards. I started last week and almost every day I went over my calorie count. So today I am doing it differently. Before I ate what I thought was a reasonable amount and then at the end of the day logged my food into myfitnesspal. I went over on calories almost every day. So this morning I thought I would plan out my daily food and record it before I ate anything. This is going to be much harder because I am a sugar freak and it is hard to stay within the "59" number for my daily sugars. So I have cut back on the amount of syrup I am using (I love syrup) for breakfast because that was going to take up all my sugars for the day. And who knows when you just might need a piece of chocolate.
So I am going to try really hard to get this figured out and stick with it. I will have to figure out which foods I like that are the least calories but the most filling.

dolphins- Have you tried plugging in extra syrup and chocolate and then maybe you won't need it?
Wish me luck today- first day of my 24 weeks....
