I just read this quote and it got me thinking: "Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going."
So many of us here note lack of motivation to workout or eat better or whatever. Maybe it's because we expect to have a certain feeling about it when that isn't really realistic? Meaning, we were all initially moved by motivation to start working out or eating healthy, but to stick with it takes habit, which admittedly, is boring. Personally, I think I've accepted this to a degree already because when I think about going to the gym after work, I'm certainly not excited about it! I just treat it the same way as I do going to work: I go, do what I need to do, and do the best I can.
So, maybe we should just take note that when we no longer feel that initial drive of motivation to exercise or make healthier food choices that we should accept it as a habit in our lives just like going to work, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, etc. I'm pretty sure we all do those things without waiting to feel "motivated" to do so! Just kind of a rambling thought this afternoon.

You make a great point, greenis.
Finally feeling human today... My Dr. Did acupuncture for cold symptoms and I feel so much better! Miraculous little needles! I am still a bit run down and still have some lingering symptoms... I am hoping to be able to workout this weekend.

Hello, all! I've been really inspired reading everyone's successes and challenges, and want to post my own as well. I'm already fit, but I'm maybe 10 pounds from goal. I sabotage myself so I always seem to stay the same. I took pictures of myself in a bikini in January, and every month thereafter. I was so pissed last night to see that it has been 9 months and my body hasn't changed all that much I know it is because I am very close to goal, and because of my diet. To get to goal I will probably need to be super careful with my diet, and I don't know if I wanted it badly enough. Anyhoo, I am building some really healthy habits now. Like greenis mentioned, once the "motivated" feeling is gone you have to rely on habit to get you through the days when you just don't feel like doing the right thing. So working out is becoming a habit since school started back up. I'm getting my diet into a habit as well. Always a protein shake for breakfast, snack with high protein, lunch with lots of veggies and protein. Dinner has been a regular family meal. I try to keep them healthy or at least balanced, but we do have our pizza or wing nights. I have been overdoing desserts and drinks. I am supposed to have one or the other, lately I have been having both. Too many empty calories. I know that with consistent workouts (interval style cardio and weight training) and a very good diet I can get the muscle definition I am seeking. I just need a kick in the ass to get going! I don't want another month of progress pics where I see no progress!

Welcome mamacita!!! Pics and measurements are a great way to monitor progress. I keep forgetting to do that.
I was finally able to be up and active today... Most cold symptoms are about 80% gone. Dh and I did a whole lot of cleaning around the house. I hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes and then spent quite a while stretching. I will do weights tomorrow. I have veggie soup and salad for lunch this week. Dinners are planned as well. I'll be putting lots of overtime this week so i am trying to be as organized as possible.
153 days until my Caribbean vacation... 153 days to transform and strengthen my bod!

Have got to get my eating habits back on the correct track. Eating too much of wrong foods, like ice cream and potato chips. My sinuses have been acting up today. Have not been getting in my steps, I guess I better set a goal for the week. A minimum of 91000 steps from Monday September 15 thru Sunday September 21st. Water consumption-- move average up to 20. Try planks at least 3 times. How did I do? Sinuses still acting up. Some days better some days worse. Weather and stress at work are not helping, Well water consumption up to 20 ounces. Steps 88850 No plank attempts. Goals for this week 91000 steps. Water consumption up to 21 ounces 3 plank attempts. sarcasticgirl-glad you are feeling better. You know you can do it. Cold weather setting in and I realized how little progress I made this summer. I have been swamped with work... 100+ hours in the last two weeks. I have been using it as an excuse to not work out and to not cook as much. I feel super bloated and lethargic... I started a round of body weight workouts today. Wow have I lost endurance and strength! Also, my lack of working out and being home to cook dinner has cause my DH to gain weight... Like 10 pounds. So I just have to find a balance and just do it.
Goal- 10k steps 5 days a week Body weight workout 3 times a week Veggies and fruit every day!

sarcasticgirl Great Job.
My work is always crazy at this time of the year and then the controller adds more work. It might be difficult to get in my steps, but I will do my best.

ners: I'm impressed with your step accomplishments! I average 75,000/week. Which is more than the 10,000 step/day goal, but not anywhere near you! Good job!
I'm not looking forward to the cold weather that's on it's way. I'm struggling to get up and go to the gym now, when it's in the 50s in the mornings. I don't know what I'm going to do when the bad weather really hits! I guess for now, my plan is pray for a mild winter And, hope that the dinky fitness room in my apartment building gets the tv fixed. At least then I could ride the stationary bike and do some core exercises on really bad days.
Keep up the good work!

So, I did my body weight workouts ONCE last week... I got 10k + steps 5 out of 7 days. I took today off... Which I know I will pay for at work this week. But I am prepping some soup for the week and some veggie snacks. I will get in a workout too.

Keep up the good work! I want to put in 4.5 million steps from July 1, 2014 thru June 30, 2015. That averages to around 12230 a day. I am a little behind. I was aiming for 13000 a day to really cut into the deficit. This week I am hoping to get in an average of 12500. Well off to get in a few steps.

Water okay
This weeks goal

Do not neglect water consumption.
Not an actual goal however weight has been creeping back up. I know that is due to poor eating habits.

Once I get to 3, I'll up the quantities. That's similar to the circuits I do. It started as 10 squats 6-8 push ups (wall pushups because of my shoulder) 15 jumping jacks 15 second plank 6 lunges 15 second bridge 15 stupid bicycle crunches ("stupid" because I don't like doing those!) I described what I do to a coworker that's been working out for several years and she said "that's a warmup!". LOL! Everybody has to start somewhere, and considering that I could barely get through 1 circuit when I first started, I was fine with my workout being somebody else's warm up. Every time I find my groove with exercising regularly, something happens to get me off track. I'd gotten to where I could do 3 of those circuits and had started makind the basics harder and doing a few other things, then I got sick. I had to start over with just the basic circuits again, but I got back on track. Then I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and was advised to not exercise for a week. I'm having a hard time getting back on track from that one. It's amazing how far I regress when I get off track.

I'm working on getting myself ready for a 5 mile turkey trot. Which I should be completely fine with. Except--I had some emergency dental work earlier this week. 2 temporary crowns resulted from that. I have to get the permanent ones put on in another couple weeks. No big deal in the scheme of things, but it really makes me not want to run. Or work out at all really. It makes my teeth feel jiggly/wiggly and just kinda achy. This is not surprising-I've had work done on these teeth before so I knew what to expect. I just don't like that it's sidetracking me. However, the good news is that the fat lip I got from the dental work is finally gone-6 days later!!
Keep up the good work ladies!

@pink Cashmere - everyone has to start somewhere. Your circuit challenges you that is all that matters. I am not sure I could get through your circuit. Keep up the good work.

Hi ladies! I've not been keeping up due to first trimester fatigue then a cold and subsequent sinus infection - ugh! But I'm now 17 weeks along, on the mend, and have a slight inkling to start exercising again. I like the circuits that pink and sarcastic are doing so I will file that away, but what I do need help with - does anyone know of any yoga (prenatal or not) videos on youtube or netflix that would be good for a beginner?

You can browse this website: doyogawithme It's doyogawithme . com. That's a link to a beginner video, but they have a lot of free videos. At least, I hope they still do. It's been a while since I checked them out.

Hi Ladies, You seem like go-getters so I'm eager to eaves-drop on your thread for a while and see if we can help support each other. I'm newly re-committed to exercise and healthy eating. Since school started (I'm a teacher) I've been going to the gym every morning (except twice) and am back to attending Weight Watchers meetings pretty much at my goal weight. I'm old enough to know that I prefer judging my health by how I feel and not a number on the scale, that crash diets don't work, and that wishing/griping don't do anything for weight loss except annoy people. I wish you the best as you navigate your way to a healthier life - what ever that means to you.
