Hugs Kilroy! That is exactly how I feel! I was so mad at the scale on Friday that I ate pound cake on Saturday. I didn't pay much attention to my food choices over the weekend but i actually think I did ok. I also walked/jogged on Friday and Sunday. In the process of trying to intensify my workouts, I instead strained both of my knees (hamstrings?). Sigh. Now I'm hobbling like a pirate with two peg legs...

Thanks! I started a new job 6 weeks ago and thought it would finally allow me a routine where I could better plan meals and workouts, rather than my previous consulting gig that frequently had me in hotels and airports, eating out every meal. Instead, I've gained like 8 lbs. Wth? I have PCOS, which causes insulin resistance, so I really need to watch the effects of foods on my blood sugar levels. I would really like to tone up, as well. At 29, I should not be embarrassed to wear shorts or tank tops. However, the last few years, I've been running around in jeans and T-shirts during the lovely Houston summers. YIKES! i grew up in Houston and jeans are brutal through the summer! I also have PCOS... I take metformin and it makes weight loss a little more possible. Are you taking anything?

Looking back at March Madness Goals
1. 400,000 steps for the month -- Success 2. Average water intake of 25 ounces Failure 3. Keep weight off and move scale down -- okay on this one. Scale has been bouncing around
For April I would like to get 400,000 steps.
Not sure about the rest of my goals.
Welcome Goldensam

Our mattress is shot. I am pissed because it is only like 5years ole. the firmness is gone and lately I have been waking up with so many aches. Today I was sitting at my desk and kept getting these shooting pains in my chest. Seriously I started getting scared like I was having a heart attack... Then started having a panic attack. I turned my head quickly and the pain shit in mychest and back. I reached back and felt a huge knot by my shoulder blade. I pressed on it and the pains shot again. No heart attack, just horribly knotted muscles that are sending pains shooting through my upper body when I turn wrong. Effing bed. I have been trying to do stretches, dh gave me a massage and I am about to go stand under a hot shower. I got my steps in but nothing else... :-(

That sounds awful sarcastic! I'd be ticked too - mattresses are expensive!! Hubby and I went on a walk yesterday because the weather was so gorgeous. As I'm hobbling along on my sore knees, I trip on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, go stumbling into the grass, and wrench my ankle. My husband would have helped me up but he was laughing too hard.

Unfortunately, we want to eventually have a king size bed... but we just can't afford it right now (we JUST bought a new dresser, chest and nightstand a couple of months ago). So, we're going to get a queen size memory foam mattress in the interim until we can do the complete upgrade. Then... a sleep number is a big possibility!

Well I'm just now hitting my stride with 2014 and I have to thank the fitbit for that. I'm 6'2" and for years spent most of my time around the 185-190 mark. Then after I got married (11 years ago), I slowly started to put on weight until I hit 265 at my peak! I eventually worked it down to 240 and kinda bounced around there for awhile. Usually my pattern is lose weight until June and then put it back on after that until the next new year. In 2013, I managed to work myself down to around 217 and stayed at that weight throughout the year.
In 2014, I started my diet/exercise plan in mid-feb and haven't made a ton of progress....until I got the fitbit. For me, it's a total game changer because it made me realize that I was probably eating too much in the first place based on how much I was burning. I think I was probably only walking around 4500-5000 steps during the week. Over the last week since I've had it, I've averaged 9400 steps! My average calorie burn now is closer to 3300 now and it's making a huge difference when combined with cutting back on some stuff.
My goal is to average about 2 pounds a week in fat loss and be down to around 14% BF at around 190-195 pounds by early summer. If I stay on track, I should be able to hit that.

Welcome back, Amy!
Miz- hope you get things sorted soon.
Daveboo- welcome! Fitbits are wonderful, aren't they?!? Complete eye openers. When I first bought one and saw that an average work day with no extra effort had me at maybe 4000 steps... I was shocked. I put in the effort to get 10000-13000 a day.

The fitbit is way easier since you can clip or stick it in your pocket.

But have bands made of rubber that house the actual fitbit. Then there are the One, Ultra and Zip, the can be clipped on pockets and such. I have had an Ultra, that i eventually killed with one too many trips through the laundry, a zip, which i have to DH, a flex, which I sold because i didn't like wearing it on my wrist and now a One, which stays clipped in the center of my bra.

I have the fitbit ONE, which is one that you can keep in your pocket or clipped on somewhere. The danger with this one, like Sargirl noted, is that it's probably a bit easier to lose or wash if you put it in your pocket. I am in a decent routine now where I put my fitbit on my phone next to my bed when I sleep and I check it quite a bit, so I don't think I would wash it or anything but who knows. I think I decided to go with the one because of some differences between that and the flex, but can't remember exactly why.

If you always have an iphone with you, then maybe the display isn't totally necessary because it can sync and display that info but I like having the display right on the device. But I would agree, I think it's an extremely valuable tool to show you how sedentary (or active) you are. I'm trying to get to a 1,000 calorie deficit each day so it helps motivate me quite a bit to do "non-exercise" things that will add up by the end of the day.

Ners is always winning- damn her. I worked late tonight and didn't get to walk the dog or get in any other workouts. Am barely over 7000 steps. Will try for 10k today. But that is all I can muster. I need another Caribbean vacation to motivate me to do more Sent from my Nexus 10 using proboards

I have found out all of my fall courses are supposed to be available online. Which is wunderbar because I won't have to drive back and forth to school.
I am debating some major changes right now due to some things that have been said to me and so fitness is not on the backburner, but I am not ready to make any commitments right now about anything.

mizbear, yay for easier logistics for school. as for the other, do what you need to do for you. please be well. checking in quickly to say that this week's been pretty weird for me. I said in my last post that I'd had a lot on my mind recently, so here we go - for those of you not in the kid thread (also here on WIR) at all, I had a minor pregnancy scare that thankfully!! has resolved itself. over the past week, I've learned quite a bit about myself, the good friend that made a really bad decision with me, and my general outlook on life. I will be taking this slap in the head from the universe and learning from it - I had said that 2014 was going to be all about getting back to ME, and in the weeks since my vacation, I've slipped away from that and into some pretty piss poor habits....not to mention one really bad night. so, since last Thursday (since I poured myself a huge glass of wine to calm myself down after my brain went to....what if?!) I have not been drinking at all, and while I spent the weekend eating like a 12-yo boy while stuck at an ice rink for the NCAA regional hockey games, I've been eating decently if sparingly. I hopped on the scale when I got home tonight and *at the end of the day* I am lighter than I was last Wednesday morning before my panic attack - 199.8. I will check in again in the morning with a new "check-in weight" so don't keep this, if anyone's actually keeping track. so, this tells me that my regular couple glasses of wine while I cook are now out the window. that's a much bigger roadblock for my weight loss than I think I was willing to admit. after this past week w/o attitude adjustments, I know it's possible to unwind w/o a glass or two. I am definitely going to be shaking up habits, and likely practices - especially if I end up putting in a bid for a cottage on the Cape. I looked at a few earlier this week, and one's got some serious potential. my bike will be moved down there, and I'll be on that Canal every day I'm there! that said, after I sent the "WOO HOO!!" text to my friend, we chatted for a bit via text. good, serious conversation that continued those of the past couple days since I shared my worries with him. one of the things I said today was that I earned tonight's glass of wine. working on that now, waiting on dinner, and with this massive weight lifted off my shoulders, I will be passed out well before the end of the Sox game tonight. but that's what sleep timers are for.
