I got my tagline from another WIR member
Surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, the 12th.
I am looking forward to continuing moving on. My DB has a best friend who is also a personal trainer, he thinks that this surgery may be a blessing for me. He says I can retrain my eating habits as I get back on solid food.

I have to sadly report after all the "splurge" foods I've been eating over the last 36 hours, the only one that was actually worth it was the cookies. Apparently my taste buds have changed, because nothing tastes all that amazing anymore! Of course, I was eating the grocery store version vs. the homemade or $200 dinner version, but still very interesting.
Off to get another cookie though.

acemom this winter most of the steps come from jogging in front of my wii. Nicer weather I try to walk. At work during good weather there is a 3:00 o'clock walk for about 10-15 minutes.
It took almost 6 months for those 2 million steps. Now to get to 3 million by May 9th

I feel like I've been eating a salt lick since yesterday. I was within my 3 lb hover range this morning, so I guess I'll take it. I am going to not stress about it tonight/tomorrow and start back on 100% clean eating Monday for the home stretch of the weight loss challenge. no alcohol, minimal amounts of processed foods. want to see if I can win this! sent from my electronic distraction

Sunday update time for me. RecapLose 35 lbs in 2014 and create a bunch of new healthy habits that will stick. I only met all one of my Week 5 goals. I have done great with the coffee creamer substitute, but I only did my yoga stretching once this week and I never even bothered to jump rope at all. I've figured out that plain almond milk (not the vanilla kind) with a smidgen of plain powdered creamer (half a teaspoon or so), to give it a more creamy consistency, works great in my coffee. Depending on how much coffee I drink in the morning, I'm at 100 calories or less each day. It's worked really well for me in terms of getting rid of those empty calories I was having every single day. I had a lot of life stressors that impacted me this past week and my hormones are not cooperating either. I'm obviously not happy that I did so poorly with my weekly goals, but at the same time I am not going to dwell on it. What's done is done and I have to move forward so I can meet my yearly goal. It's really important for me right now to keep the big picture in mind since it helps me accept the small mis-steps along the way. Week 6 Goals- Jump rope 3 times this week (since I failed miserably at this last week, gotta get to it this week)
- Basic yoga stretches for 15 minutes a day, two days a week (another carryover from last week since I didn't meet the goal)
- Fake core challenge: 15 reverse crunches three times a week
I've been piddling around learning and doing the reverse crunches. It's time that I start doing them regularly. Plain and simple, it's just time now. Numbers UpdateStart | 1/1/14 | 209.0 | Current | 2/2/14 | 200.6 | Last | 2/9/14 | 199.8 |
I lost 0.8 lbs this week for a total of 9.2. I am really shocked I had any loss this week. Given my less than stellar performance this week, I was hoping I could just maintain. This actually puts be below the 200.0 mark for the first time in.....geeze I don't even know.....9 or 10 years? This is where my calorie counting is really helping me. I read an online article at prevention and they had a calorie calculator. I put my weight in from January 1st and I would have to have somewhere around 2200 - 2300 calories a day to maintain my weight. My current calorie goal is 1700 a day, which is not a stringent goal by any means. But given where I started from, it's probably the most significant factor in my weight loss right now. New Habits- Tracking daily calorie intake & regularly meeting calorie goal
- Walking the dogs twice a week
- Eating dinner at the table each night
I can't add yoga as a habit since I didn't meet my goal this past week. I also only waked the once last week. They misbehaved so badly on our walk. Combined with all the other stressors last week, I just couldn't give myself the kick in the pants I needed to get it done a second time. Marion's RamblingsMy pizza splurge on Friday still kept me within 100 calories of my daily goal. And the pizza was soooo good. It was chicken, roasted red peppers, pesto, feta cheese, and a whole wheat crust. I was happy that with a little thought I was able to plan breakfast and dinner so that I could enjoy a "non-diet" lunch. Coworker and I had a good time too. acemom - wow! That's awesome about meeting your step goal everyday this week. It didn't take you anytime at all to tackle that pedometer! chiver - first place is in your future, I can feel it bsbound - ahhhh, cookies......mmmmmm......all I have to say is "uh-huh" ners - SUPER CONGRATS on the 2,000,000 steps!!!! mizbear - that's a great thought. Using this as an "opportunity" of sorts to retrain your eating habits. kilroy - just some good juju for you this week since I'm hoping jury duty doesn't drain you and wear you out too awful much Alright ladies, it's the second full week of February. Let's keep it moving and see what we can get done this month! Good luck!

okay- it is time to get my head back in the game. I have let all the stress of personal life and such get to me this month. 3 days so far, I have not met my step goal of 10,000 steps. we're only a week in, so that really sucks. I haven't been on top of my eating either... so I haven't lost anything (luckily, haven't gained either) I want to rock out and see what kind of progress I can make in 3 weeks!

aw, bsb my weekend was pretty busy. didn't make the best food choices, but the scale didn't punish me for it. played my first hockey game since my adventures in the ER, and it showed. but it was still a good time. we went out to the pub afterward too, good times. oh, and the big one - this AM was the 2-week BP check-in, and I'm holding steady under 120/80. so, no lasting damage from the Paleo experiment. yay!

Wow, why haven't I read this thread before? I think this is just what I need to get back to where I want to be! Thanks for it! I guess some intro stats are appropriate now:
Well, I used to be a runner and played quite a bit of ice hockey. I found skiing and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. So much so that I bought a season pass to a place that's an hour or so from me. Then I had to put some serious brakes on. So:
I had a baby in November 2013 after a high-risk pregnancy. Since I was high risk, I was not allowed to work out (or play hockey, which is standard for any pregnancy) since March 2013. I failed to adjust my diet, so I got up to 199 pounds with the baby. Unfortunately, I herniated a disk in my lumbar spine in the 8th month of pregnancy. So 2 months after my C-section, I had lower back surgery. I've been on light duty since surgery, but should be good to go starting this week. It's not been a fun few months, but I think the worst is behind me. I was able to skate with my little boy on Saturday, and it felt good to be able to skate with him instead of telling him "mommy's broken, I will be able to skate with you in a few months/weeks/days."
So, now I'm at an appalling 177 pounds and have fallen into sugar addiction. Ugh! My mom and dad swear by the 5-2 diet, so I'm going to try that for now. Monday and Friday will be my "fast" days (meaning consume no more than 600 calories).
Goals: I'm signed up for a half marathon on May 4th. My training program starts today (ironically with a rest day, haha). I WILL finish. My training program rest days coincide with my fast days, so I should have some decent fuel to stay on track.
I need to lose 35 pounds to be back to my comfortable area. After that, I will reevaluate and perhaps set a new goal.
I will be back into a hockey league starting in April, so I need to do some stick an puck to get my timing back. I have a hockey tournament scheduled for the end of April and one in June. I need to get my feet back under me and some timing back!
I can't wait to hit the slopes this weekend, but I need some serious muscle back in my legs to be able to make it a whole day. I am going to use my pass until it's worn out this season!
I need to retrain my taste buds to crave fruits and vegetables instead of cake and Mike and Ike's.
I need to take in more water, and less carbs.
Welcome to my re-acquire fitness journey! Now I'm going to the first page of this thread to read through it for inspiration. Thanks everyone!

I failed a couple days this month with my 10k step challenge... We had some HUGE emotional family stuff go down this week.
I found some inappropriate pictures (Chicks in bikini's) on the computer before I left for work one morning and so I made that photo the desktop wallpaper with a note before leaving for work about how things like that didn't make me feel pretty or helped our marriage... I thought things were okay as he apologized throughout the day and I came home to a clean house and an apology puppy on our computer monitor...
But then I checked the browser history and the recycle bin he forgot to empty and stumbled upon the rest of the "smut" ... So it's been an emotional few days for me... Especially right now where I have been struggling with my weight and body image issues... no matter what we say to ourselves, we can't un-see things and just not compare them.
We have made a few new house rules... and there's been a lot of i'm sorry and tearful conversations on both sides of the isle... and I know he feels horrible about it... (my husband used to cut himself in high school before his antidepressants really kicked in... and we had to have some serious conversations about this topic again this week as his guilt and depression worsened)... BUT we have also set some practical parental settings on the computer now... including having it automatically shut down from 9 pm - 4 am each night.
But it hurts... On Sunday I broke down crying again because everyone kept asking me at church if I was "ok" since I wasn't my usual bubbly self... and you can only fake it so long over 3 hour church before you break down... thankfully that happened at home, but boy was it a doosy.
Anyone been where I'm at and have advice?
Fitness update: 1. Game Plan: Every day, 10,000 steps. 2. One 5 miles walk/jog a week outdoors 3. one Bootcamp class at work 4. one 30 minute treadmill no walking jog.
Steps Feb 1 - 17,217 Feb 2 - 10,048 Feb 3 - 14,977 (5 mile outside walk/jog!) Feb 4 - 10,480 Feb 5 - 10,572 so far (31 minute treadmill jog at 4.9 speed -- no walking!) Feb 6 - 8,538 Feb 7 - 4,021 Feb 8 - 11,278 (Bootcamp! woot woot) Feb 9 - 13,593 (5 mile outside walk/jog)
I weighed in... This morning it was still 160 lbs.

abell:
I don't have any experience with your family issues, I just wanted to give you a hug.
Good luck.
I wouldn't worry too much about the scale when you begin to work out. You put on muscle, and it weighs more than fat. Pay attention to the fit of your clothes first. It looks like you have had a good week of working out. Keep it up, and you will see the scale move!

Ambellamy - hugs! No experience, but just wanted to say hang in there and do what you need to do for you. Peripherally, I watched/supported my cousin as she went through something similar. They worked it out, but it took a lot of trust building and her husband having to be open and honest and accept her questioning him over energy little thing until some of the trust was built back up and he showed her through his actions that he wasn't repeating the same mistakes.
Generic - welcome!
Chiver - yay for a good BP reading!

My ILs were in town on Friday night, so no workout then. I did get a quick mile walk in with DH and the kiddo in the stroller on Saturday, and a couple of miles on the treadmill last night while watching the Olympics.
I also got more stairs than normal in for a weekend day, so yay. I consistently get 20-25 flights per weekday, but only about 4 on the weekends. This weekend I was in the 8-10 range, so an improvement.

Get well soon bsbound! Great news about the BP chiver tcu - congrats on sneaking more stairs in on the weekend ambellamy - no advice, sorry, just WELCOME generic!Had a fail with a new recipe. Been trying to vary my proteins so I don't get bored. I like tuna, but that whole mayo tuna salad thing doesn't work really well for my calorie count (especially when you add in the 2 slices of bread). I saw quite a few recipes for mediterranean style tuna salad. Made it and had it on top of spring greens. Didn't like the tuna salad. It had olive oil, dill, capers, celery, tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper. I will end up having it for lunch again tomorrow. I'm wondering if it will taste better after it sets overnight. But, I'm not too optimistic. As much as I hate to waste food, I will most likely trash the rest. Monday is usually my "off" day, but we have bad rain moving in and it will be here for the next 2 days at least. Managed to run by the grocery after work. Going to try to get my yoga and crunches done tonight. It's already raining (and dark) so I won't be able to jump rope and walk the dogs. I've got to force myself to get those in at the end of the week once the weather clears. Onward and upward ladies!

marion- are you using tuna steaks of the packaged stuff? that will make a huge difference with a Mediterranean style salad. If you can't get fresh, at least go for the package instead of the can or the Mediterranean in the jar with EVOO already added

Amy - I don't know the bounds of your marriage necessarily, but studies show ALL men look at porn - and most women. I'm sorry you're going through this.
Looks like a 24 hour stomach bug, wasn't too terrible but a lot of cramping. Spent the day drinking sprite on the couch. Awesome.

I used the packaged pouchy stuff. I didn't get the kind already in olive oil because I wanted to use my own yummy olive oil. I think it was the combination of flavors I didn't like. The texture was fine. Those flavors just don't agree with my palate I think (I'm not very, ummm, sofisticated and such Yoga done. Reverse crunches done. Threw in some forward crunches just for the heck of it. Used mizbear's tip about crossing my arms on the regular crunches. Those suckers were easy after that yoga and those stinking reverse crunches. Haven't found any exercises I like with the exercise ball, but I have some back bendy stretch things I like. Did those too. I'm pooped.

Amy- I'm not sure what your specific situation is... so I don't know if there are any other circumstances that warrant concern in your marriage. I know my Dh looks at porn occasionally, it has never bother me. But if it makes you uncomfortable, it is certainly something to work out with your DH. Sorry that you are having issues, but please don't feel bad about yourself and your body! I am pretty certain this is not a reflection on you. It is pretty typical man behavior.
tcu- whoa! that's a lot of stairs! way to go... keep it up!
bsb- glad there's a light at the end of the tunnel!
core challenge done
10000+ steps done. I got in over 14k today. I have made sure that I have made up for the 3 under 10k days I had last week... my weekly average should be back up over 10k tomorrow.
also, I noticed that DH has been making healthier food choices since his Dr. appointment. he's chosen salad... twice. which is pretty uncommon. and he got on the elliptical machine tonight for a while! His bosses are really working to keep him with the company in a role that will make him happier. He's still looking for something else, but it sounds like he might not be quitting next month *fingers crossed*

Phew! Made it through my 600 calorie day without being too grouchy. I found out you can eat steamed broccoli with a touch of cheese sauce for under 100 calories per cup. Yum!!
I also walked 40 minutes on the treadmill. It is a "rest day" for my half marathon training program, but I'm walking to rehab the back after back surgery, so I don't consider leisurely walking while watching Judge Judy rip a new one into crazy people to be a workout. Have a 3-mile jog on the training schedule today. I used to be able to train comfortably at an under 10:00 per mile pace. I'm sure I'll be lucky to hit 15:00 per mile today. Wish me luck! I'll be back with the results later.

generic - not trying to be a major worry pants or anything here, but have you talked to a doctor about being on the 5-2 diet? Also, I know athena (not on this thread, but I'm sure you could PM her) also does this diet and has great success with it, but she makes sure to eat extra calories for all of the exercise she does - with all the training you describe, just want to make sure you will be getting adequate calories to keep you safe and healthy...
sarcastic - glad your DH is making healthier choices and that his job is working with him.
amy: what sarcastic said is what I was trying to say but couldn't figure out how to.
AFM, back at work today and already thinking maybe should have taken another day on the couch. Am just so weak and shaky. Forgot to weigh in this morning but not going to worry about it. Just going to try to make it through today and then get back on the core challenge tonight: 41s, right?

amy - sorry I don't have any advice for you, but did want to offer a and an offer that I can definitely listen if you need to vent. bsb - yay that you're feeling better! marion - sorry that didn't end up to your liking. I'm kind of surprised to see lime juice in a Mediterranean recipe, there's usually a lot of lemon in that sort of cooking. if you give it another shot, try swapping out the lime for lemon and see if that helps. sarcastic - 14k steps?! wow! generic - 600 calories? I don't mean to sound judgy, but can you explain how what you're doing is supposed to work? I've heard about diets that have a couple really restrictive days over the week, but I don't understand the science behind it. having recently had a very adverse reaction to a different restrictive diet, I'm erring on the side of caution now while I get my system back to normal. not fully understanding what you're trying to do, I'm a little worried for you. my own update today. last night was the Beanpot finals in Boston. my Huskies played a great game, until the whole thing fell apart with 2:30 left in the game. but, next steps are the conference tourneys and the Frozen Four. I met up with my college roommate for dinner before the game, had 2 small beers and a mushroom ravioli dinner. we did a lot of walking, between getting to the venue area from the cheap garage where we parked, and then walking all over the Garden between the balcony and loge between periods. came in within calories for the day, so that's good I got home around midnight, and feel like I got hit by a train this morning. was feeling a bit dizzy on my drive in to work, so I hopped on the BP cuff in the caf of my building and the stupid thing read 153/101. wtf? we've got a walk-in clinic on site that's staffed w/RNs during normal business hours, so I'm going to head over there in a little bit. yesterday morning was 118/82 at the dr's office, I don't even know what would cause that sort of jump - IF that's even a real reading. the cuff in the caf is one of those like you'd see at CVS.

Hahaha! The original recipes used lemon, but I have a very strong dislike for lemon. On the other hand, I love, Love, LOVE lime. I think I could have done just lime juice and olive oil and it would have been pretty good. Really thinking the dill & capers combination did me in. So it goes though.
Maybe the RN's office will get a different reading. Sometimes those cuff things aren't the most accurate for BP readings. Good luck!

hmm....if you want to use lime, why not use red onion and cilantro instead of the dill and capers. you can grate a little garlic into the bowl before mixing, too. I'm not a huge lemon fan either, but I wouldn't put lime with capers. and there wouldn't be dill anywhere near my tuna salad. lol... yeah, I'll see what the clinic says. I know that I've pegged the meter right at 120 for the past 2 visits, but if I can feel the blood flowing today, it's gotta be higher than that. I'm so over this, just want to be back to normal again. damn paleo experiment. thanks for the hugs though, very appreciated.
