So, down another pound today - so if that sticks, half a pound till we meet our goal! Was doing some reading yesterday and found a couple interesting fitness blogs: Making sense of modern fitness: katwhitfield.com/Go Kaleo: gokaleo.com/2013/06/17/fad-diets-normalizing-disordered-behavior/ (Interesting post on how we behave towards food, but also lots of other interesting posts.) As I'm thinking of moving from lose-quick to lose-slow and maintain, trying to figure out what that looks like. I still want to lose another 20 lbs, but it doesn't need to be TODAY, necessarily. Had a decent swim last night. Not great, never really hit my stride, but decent. Felt good afterwards that I kept going despite not getting in the zone. Hope everyone has an awesome awesome day!

-hug-Miz Bear. Sometimes life gets in the way, and surgery is definitely one of those times. Focus on taking care of yourself and you'll be ready to tackle things again head-on once you've recovered.

Had my annual today and my Dr. was happy that I had lost 16 pounds since i saw her... last year. Of course I am sad that it was ONLY 16 pounds... but i suppose it is better than a gain!
In other news, I got my DH to the doctor today. He is now on blood pressure medication, has orders to work out and restrict himself to an 1800 calorie diet. He'll also be going on medicine for diabetes. (same drugs I take for insulin resistance) I think he had a bit of a wake up call at the DR. today. I am hoping this will be motivation to work together... we shall see.

sarcastic - your husband was diabetic? Did he know that? Hoping the wakeup call sticks and he's able to change some things for the better!
Sounds like both of you are going to be working on a lower-carb future!

Sounds like both of you are going to be working on a lower-carb future! yup he was, and yes he did. I didn't even know it for a long time. apparently he had been on medication years ago and hated it, had horrible side effects, etc. I have spent the last few years gently nudging while trying not to "nag" too much, but it made me really annoyed that I'm not diabetic or even borderline, but I'm taking medicine... while HE is diabetic and can't be bothered?!?! I just put my foot down when the whole blood pressure thing came up. Since *I* made the appointment, I mentioned everything I wanted them to check. Why do men have to be such children sometimes? He's not going to have much of a choice in the way of giving up some carbs. The meds give you a tummy ache when you have something too carby or sugary. And i'm not letting him out of it. If I can suck it up and deal with it, he can too. Insulin resistance wont kill me, diabetes will kill him. Am going to try and get him to try the upper challenge with me, maybe the lower. He used to play football and hockey and workout a ton. so I just have to find something to awaken that old desire in him!

I'm in an ugh rut. I know I won't meet all of my weekly goals this week, but whatever, I guess I'll deal with that at weigh in time. More cold weather here again plus rain. And my are cranky. Clingy, stir crazy, high strung, and everything in between. I do have a splurge planned for tomorrow. Coworker and I are going to try the new pizzeria that opened. I've looked at the menu and internet searched. They are not a national chain - sort of a regional one. I wasn't able to find any exact match for nutritional info but I found enough stuff that looks similar that I at least have an educated guess on the calorie count. I'm going to tweak my breakfast and dinner to coincide. Despite my ugh rut, I have been keeping to my calorie goal (with the exception of that cookie accident). mizbear - good juju for your surgery and no, you won't lose your progress. And I really liked the giving calories away to others. Iggy - glad you checked in! Sounds like the low carb is working out really great for you! I had to cut back on the too. But, to be honest, I don't seem to miss it or crave it. tcu - Chocolate chip anything is apparently part of my problem Btw, you are totally kicking that treadmill's *ss! chiver - so glad you worked in some mulligan days I hear you loud and clear on the habits thing. That is one reason I was so conservative when I set my weight loss goal for the year. I figure if I can change my habits the weight loss will follow. Good tip about the cans for weights. And, strangely enough, I totally understand your post about the days to do the challenge. My brain is wired differently too so that post actually made perfect sense to me. bsbound - I'm super-stoked for you! I can't wait 'til I can post a bunch of these in celebration ambellamy - I think you've got a great mix of goals! missk - how's your pedometer working out? sarcastic - saw your other thread about your husband's job. I'm so happy you got him to the doctor! I know you were really worried and troubled by everything you saw him going through. No matter what happens with his job situation, it will be soooo much better than this And for the 16 lbs down at the docs office!!! kilroy - how'd jury duty and the interview go? Geeze louise. If I would catch up more often my posts wouldn't be so long Oh, and one other thing I wanted to mention. I've been seeing lots of fitness related articles floating around this week throughout the headlines. In my unscientific assessment, 99% of them are about working out when you don't want to, what to do when you lose motivation, how to workout without leaving the house in winter, etc. Needless to say we are not alone. Apparently this time of the year is prime for hitting a rut. What's most important is that we all make it to the other side! Keep up all the great work ladies!

My "other Mom" solved my motivation problem for me today. She said I have too much on my plate (even though I don't see where I have much on it) and suggested I declutter people and certain aspects of stress from my life. She basically said I need to get rid of detractors- including "N", Momma Bear if she isn't going to play ball and DB. SHe also said that I need to stop expecting myself to be perfect. She said there is no reason why I can't have time for myself and my own life. So, she sent me a whole list of things to "work" on.
She also said that this thing with "lacking motivation" is a bunch of carp conjured up by people who are trying to guilt us into being real people. The same people who say we lack "willpower".

I know what I forgot to ask. Has anybody "heard" from or "seen" bobosensei around? I was wondering how her and her are doing mizbear - Seriously?! I have too much on my plate (even though I don't see where I have much on it)I only live in your computer, and I'm not kidding when I say I sit here in amazement at all the things you do!!!! As far as the lacking motivation, that's why I'm happy I joined this thread. Ups and downs, ebbs and flows, waxing and waning, are all a completely normal part of life. It's nice to be here and see that other real people have the same thing. Knowing that the ruts don't last forever and it's just part of the process. I can definitely see where "others" may use the lacking motivation in some sort of condescending way. But I say, screw those people!

Marion, thanks for asking. I didn't feel great about the interview and I doubt it will pan out :-( Jury duty is ongoing for the rest of the month, interesting but tiring. Just getting to the courthouse in the snow is exhausting, but probably counts as a little exercise. Everything else has fallen by the wayside for now.
Mizbear, your "other mom" sounds really smart - listen to her and take care of yourself, please. We like having you around :-)

Well, guys... WE MADE WEIGHT THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Actually, we made it yesterday but didn't realize...) So, I'm bringing back the strength training and taking some measurements tonight - going to make it about something other than the scale! One of the best parts of this adventure is how much more I'm able to do with DD - pick her up, toss her around, etc. Not that I wasn't strong enough before, but, yeah, I wasn't strong enough before. Also, it's now much easier to get up and down off the ground because I don't have 45 lbs of extra bulk on me. Yeah, I'm down 45 lbs since I joined this thread last year and started losing! Now just 45 more to go... eventually... This weekend is about a well-deserved celebration, and I am definitely going to be upping my calories by a couple hundred a day - enough so that I can start eating things other than plain chicken breasts for every meal and get a little more variety in my diet. This 1200-calories/day thing is ok for short, predetermined periods of time, but I don't want to eat like this forever.

Thanks guys! Turns out this break couldn't have come at a better time - I just got my period and want to eat the whole world deep-fried and covered in chocolate. Stupid hormones.

BSB CONGRATS!!!!!! Way to go!!!!!! I am so jealous of your weight loss but know that you did it with a lot of hard work! I want to be you! Just need to focus more. Speaking of, I haven't done any exercise for 2 days. I'm not sure why, I think I just got distracted by the snow and and changing routines at home this week. I will do them today though! So I lost 1.2 pounds this week - but I had gained last week, so I am really only down 1.8 for the year. But this month will be different!! And thanks for asking about the pedometer. I've been wearing it and trying to increase my steps some! I haven't reached 5000 for a day yet though. missk82 2/7/14) 203.0 (1/31/14) 204.2 (1/24/14) 201.6 (1/17/14) 203.2 (1/10/14) 203.2 (1/3/14) 204.8

Thanks everyone- I know I get whiney and too talky, but you all don't know how much I appreciate the support I get from you all. (And I don't care if you only live in my computer!)
I am going to weigh in Tuesday before I start that nasty prep for surgery. I know where I want to be, but I am really not worried about it right now.
As soon as I have the ok from the doctor, I am going to be getting back on the hamster wheel....

I couldn't help it- I weighed myself today....
188.8!
I realize that's not great, but everything considered, it's not horrible either- I was really expecting to see closer to 200... if not higher.
I have been eating lunch and watching Dr. OZ talk about losing fat by eating fat... awesomeness. I want to research the supplement he was talking about FBCx, but I can definitely eat 1/2 my fats as mono-unsaturated and 1/4 poly.

The man is a quack! But yes, eating fats can help you feel fuller and decrease your insulin response which helps you from building fat. Glad for the weight being a pleasant surprise!

bsb- Noted. I wonder why anyone would put their reputation on the line over something like that. I think sometimes it has to do with the research source...
Either way, I am taking your advice.

Well I did no lose any weight this week. That is okay because I did not gain any either.
Between eating too much on Superbowl Sunday, and stress eating I am just glad I did not gain.
This week i am going to attempt to increase my water intake.
I will get my 2 millionth step today. I only need 1,689 steps.

mix bear - he endorses things for two reasons, I'd guess - money and to give himself something to talk about. He endorses SO many supplements, it's ridiculous. Just from logic alone, you have to figure they cannot ALL be the incredible secret miracle cure for weight loss!

Good morning! I haven't had you're to check in much over the last few days. I've been so super slammed at work and then when I get home, I have been doing my challenges (still not the upper challenge) and getting my steps in. I've met my step goal every day this week except Monday (when I was learning how many steps I don't take on an average day!!) I've also added in some cardio in while doing my steps... I jog in place a lot and have been doing "speed skating" type moves.. needless to say my legs and booty are feeling it for sure!!! I've also been doing better with my calorie intake and last night enjoyed two beers for the first time all week... but after feeling great about my week, imagine my disappointment when I get on the scale this morning and find myself up 3 pounds. I took a few quick measurements and it looks like I've lost a few inches around my hips and belly, which I'm very happy about, but I really wish the scale would cooperate too... Bsb - so happy for you! Tell me again when and where your trip is? Midyear, when is your surgery scheduled for? I agree that your other mom sounds pretty smart. You need to have encouraging people around you... go read your tagline and check your price tag! I love that and think of it often! Sarcastic - I'm so glad you got your hubby to the Dr. Hope he does what they tell him to and that he joins you on your fitness journey! If I remember correctly, were you talking about moving to Texas a while ago? (I might be totally making that up , or have you confused with someone else... ) Ners - 2 million steps is amazing!! How do you get most of your steps in? Kilroy - have faith regarding the interview... are you actively looking for a new job or is this just an opportunity that popped up? Good luck with jury duty too... Marion - enjoy your pizza! My son and I had a "carpet picnic" last night where we eat pizza on the living room floor and watch a movie. The pizza was soooo good! Sorry if I missed anyone. Trying to catch up from to many days of not checking in... Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!

bsb - YAY!!! So happy for you! acemom - I'm definitely looking, but this job wasn't something I applied for. One of my husband's tennis partners passed my contact info along to another player who works at Chase Manhattan in the research department, and she contacted me for an interview. Definitely not traditional networking
