Sarcastic - hang in there. If you're really desperate and think it's bloat or irregularity, there's always diuretics or laxatives.
amybellamy - we add 1 every day. So yesterday was actually 31 repeats. Today will be 32.
Mizbear - the bigger you are on top, the MORE you need a sports bra. You can find odd sizes online, but please don't go without a sportsbra, it makes us big-boobed girls cringe just thinking about it!

you could go paleo for a couple days, that gets rid of bloat faster than anything else I've ever tried. sorry though, I know that's an absolutely frustrating feeling. I completely forgot to do last night's core stuff when I woke up today. in my defense, I woke up just before 2AM and couldn't get back to sleep. I finally gave up and turned lights on around 3:30 so I didn't fall back to sleep for an hour or so and totally mess myself up for the day. I took my sweet ass time getting ready this morning, cleaned up the kitchen from last night's dinner (stuff that didn't fit in the dishwasher, which I ran last night) and made myself a hot breakfast. I was at my desk by 7am, and will absolutely be in need of a nap when I get home if I intend to stay awake for the Bruins/Habs game tonight. about that core challenge - was wondering last night what y'all think about breaking it up over the course of the evening. that plank kills me after the crunches. was thinking about doing the crunches and bridges together, then the bicycle and plank later on....or vice versa.

Chiver - I typically do the plank and cobra first, then end with the crunches. I say, do what works for you.

I am *hoping* that it is salt. I did have sunflowers yesterday and a couple other salty things. I also drank 12 cups of water and ended my night with green tea. I swear I went to pee half a dozen times in the 2 hours before bed. But maybe there is still some lingering bloat.
I have been eating mostly paleo, with the exception of greek yogurt daily. I even cut out most cheese in the last couple of days.
I'll concentrate on hydration and flushing any salt out today. No salty foods. I brought greek yogurt, berries and unsalted nuts for lunch. Hopefully that can do the trick. *crosses fingers*

Bleh. I have been eating too many bad snacks and the scale is up. I don't know why I am not more motivated to stick to my goals! I'm not sure what to use for motivation. Any ideas?

I know dietbetter.com has kept me motivated. Who doesn't want a chance at winning money?!?! Other than that, a competitiveness keeps me motivated. like Fitbit. I try and keep my steps up or get more steps to pass someone on my friend's list or keep them from passing me. (Shakes fist at Ners... I'm always so close to passing her!) Also- knowing that I have to come report to you guys that I didn't do core challenge or I've been totally sucking at something helps.

missk - it happens. One thing I would consider: are you choosing the right goals? Do you have a mix between short-term and long-term, actions (Walk this much, eat this many calories) and results (Weigh this or be a size that.)
I've found making sure I have a mix of goals, especially ones that I can achieve along the way has been very helpful.
That said, I went totally off the resrevation yesterday, so I don't know...

I think it is really important to allow splurges along the way. Indulge, enjoy it and then continue along with your healthy eating. Being strict every single day only ends in disaster.
I have certain things that I don't want to give up. like Thursdays are egg white quesadilla days in our cafe. These things are like crack. wheat tortillas, eqq whites and chihuahua cheese and surely some butter. They certainly aren't something I can eat everyday for breakfast, but I plan for them on thursdays. and then compensate for the extra calories for the rest of the day. I also gave pizza 2-3 times a month. I cut my intake way down. and keep my calories low otherwise. also, throwing in an extra workout, or make my workout longer to balance things out. I've been doing this all month. being really mindful so that I burn calories, eat well, indulge occasionally and keep progress rolling. It certainly feels like something I can keep up for the long haul, which... is really what it is all about, right?

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm going to set up my pedometer tonight to start using that and then make some goals that are steps related. I like reading about all of you who try to get in 10,000 or more a day! I would like having something that can be measured like that.
As for other goals, I really need to think. Mine are more food related, and those are really hard for me. Believe me, I do splurge plenty! I over-splurge and have a hard time telling myself no. I guess I am one of those people who if I do 1 thing bad, it will snowball because it is "too late". I know that is faulty thinking but it is hard to change!

For those looking for pedometers- Avon has the Curves pedometer
I usually get really inexpensive pedometers because I kill them
I have a lot of trouble finding bras that fit, and sports bras I have even more trouble with because I am a DD, so I just wear my Playtex sports style comfort strap

@sarcastic snowflake Glad I can motivate you.
I still have my goal of getting 2,000,000 steps by my six month mark (February 12, 2014). Currently at 1,893,434 steps.

After being whiny and discouraged, I went home and did the core challenge! My plank was pretty crappy, but I did them! With a 7 month old climbing on me.

ugh, no Curves. sorry to bring politics into a supportive board, but ick. the CEO of Curves supports organizations that seek to limit women's rights, choices, and access to affordable medical care with the profits he makes from the franchises that take membership fees from women. please don't buy that one. I never got that nap in, I've been snacking since I got home instead of an actual dinner, and I'm going to be watching the majority of the B's game from bed tonight. probably won't get the core challenge done tonight either. going to take this 24h period as my mulligan for now, given the completely wacky sleep pattern, and hope that I fall asleep in the 1st period and sleep straight through to my alarm in the morning. I'll give a portion of the blame to my upcoming period. I have a tendency to want to eat anything salty that isn't nailed down in the couple days beforehand, and sometimes I'm so iron-deficient that I will actually buy a 4-pk of burgers to grill one (NOT in my normal menu options) and freeze the rest until I can get those extras to my dad. the scale this AM was 2lbs above Monday morning's reading. I'm okay with that - salt, water retention, and upcoming period. I get back to produce-heavy eating again tomorrow, and have plans for a couple paleo-friendly meals this weekend to complement a generally healthy menu.

DD's are no excuse not to wear a sports bra! I'm a 36F and I wear a sports bra! Highly recommend moving comfort - I love the Fiona.

chiver- Thanks for that insight! I always knew I was not a "Curves" girl, I just figured it was because I was bored out of my skull
Okay, so moving comfort- any other good supportive recommendations out there? I guess the regular bras don't bother me because that's what I have worn for years because my grandmother had a cow when she saw the construction of my first sports bras. I had some really great ones- I literally wore them out LOL

Ugh. Scale still isn't cooperating. You know when you step on the scale and it bounces between 2 numbers before settling on one? Yeah it is bouncing between 217.2 and 218.6... And of course settling on the higher number. I just need to effing weigh in at 217.5 or less. And I was at 218 on monday and have had enough of a deficit this week to loose at least a pound. And I am PMSing and freaking STARVING! Last night I went to bed with a growling stomach. Seriously. One last chance to weigh in tomorrow. I am so pissed right now.

Ugh, sorry to all of those whose scales aren't cooperating! I was up 3 pounds today! That seems an awful lot just because I ate a bag of gardettos, and a chocolate bar and some tootsie rolls...hmm, maybe not! Friday is my start over day with Weight Watchers, so I have a clean slate although I am ticked about the 3 pounds. So far so good even though it is only 9:20am. Also, I got my pedometer set up last night! And, the temperature is supposed to be almost 50 tomorrow, so I may even be able to go for a walk OUTSIDE! So I'm trying to be more positive about the week ahead. Thanks for everyone's help!

Missk - ignore me if you've heard me say this before, but setting gradual goals about food really helped me. So, first my goal was to not snack at work. Then the goal was to control all my meals during the week - weekends were free. Then my goal was to get my weekends under control and only have 1 splurge meal during the weekend. Etc. For me, that was easier and better than trying to do everything at once and as soon as I screw up one thing getting mad and going on a big binge. Sarcastic - OMG, that sucks sucks sucks! I think pamprin and midol have diuretics for bloat, would that help? Mizbear - why would your grandmother care what your sports bras look like?

So, I worked out last night for the first time in a while. Am currently avoiding the scale as I work to get on track after Thursday's splurge. Feel sore but good.

I don't know if a diuretic would help... I drank Sooooo much yesterday. Like 14-16 cups of water which included a couple of cups of green tea. Dear lord I am so tired of peeing! Lol my lower back is in knots- totally PMS. I know I can't take midol- I am allergic to ibuprofen. But maybe I can take pamprin?
Honestly- I am super proud of my process. I lost over 8 pounds this month. And I didn't start the month out with tons of holiday bloat and water retention either. My clothes are loosed and I feel better etc. I just really thought I had this in the bag. Then mother nature decided to be a bitch. Lol

Sarcastic, no, that is a good idea! I'm not sure if my breakfasts and lunches arenb't big enough, but I honestly can't imagine not snacking at work! On my good days snacks are apples, yogurt, carrots or granola bars. Bad days I get chips or pretzels or someone brought in donuts. I guess I'm curious- what do y'all eat for breakfast and lunch on a normal day? And at what times?

8 pound sin a month is awesome! You should be very proud with sticking to it and happy with the changes you've already made to your body!

Breakfast is usually strawberries, Fage greek yogurt, some slivered almonds and this morning i threw in a few craisens. I buy the GINORMOUS bags of frozen strawberries at costco. they aren't sweetened with sugar or anything and they had an amazing flavor. I put some in a container at night and let them defrost in the fridge. in the morning I add the yogurt and mash it all together. then throw in my nuts. I usually bring it to work and have it between 8:30 and 9:30.
for lunch- sometimes I make veggie soup, sometimes salad, this week was grilled chicken and veggies. Today I am buying some tomato basil soup from our cafe, since it is grocery buying day in the sarcastic house and pickings were slim for lunch.

I also keep unsalted nuts- cashews and almonds at my desk at work and always have some fruit in my mini fridge, apple and kiwi in there now. Additionally, I have some PB and some nutella in my cabinet for emergencies. Sometimes I can't get lunch and have some apple at PB for the meal. and if i have a chocolate craving i can't shake, I eat just a little nutella.
oh... and i have low sodium sunflower seeds for salty cravings.

I guess I'm curious- what do y'all eat for breakfast and lunch on a normal day? And at what times? So, my average day looks like this: 6:00 am: 2 eggs scrambled, with a sprinkle of cheese and a turkey sausage: 300 calories 10:00 am: roasted or raw almonds, 1/2 cup 350 calories 11:30 am: Cottage cheese, 1%, 2/3 cup 130 calories 2:00 pm: 1/2 Chicken breast, veggie, olive oil 150 calories 7:00 pm: 1/2 Chicken breast, veggie, olive oil 150 calories That gives me 1100 calories/day more or less. Then I have room for a handful of M&Ms at work or whatever. If I work out I will often add a protein shake or a spoonful of peanut butter or some more nuts. Just got word that our all-morning meeting will be catered, and they are bringing in panera for lunch. Send me extra willpower, please.

Grandmother was a professional seamstress. My first sports bras looked like tank tops that someone hacked the bottom off of and put a thin 1/2 in band of weak elastic around the bottom. Wrapped in the excess fabric.
The Playtex I currently wear is the #4159. It's a suedo sports bra.

go for the salad, bsbound! especially if it's the classic w/balsamic dressing. that's easily the best thing on the menu for someone trying to lose weight. I can go all-out fat kid at Panera - full size classic salad and bowl of black bean soup - and it's still only about 500 calories. missk82 - breakfast this AM was apple wedges and a Jif natural single-serve PB cup. lunch is going to be a tuna salad sandwich. I mixed the tuna with chunks of apple and red onion, this AM's wedges were from the rest of the apple. lunch for me is typically a run to Whole Foods to hit up the hot bar for a little protein and a lot of veggies. breakfast varies by what I have on hand in the morning. sometimes I go to the caf here and go for a veggie-loaded omelet. those are the days I snack rather than eat lunch.
