Calories- I have a real serious concern with my surgery coming up and trying not to get into too much gorey detail as to not attract any trolls...
I will not be able to eat much in the way of anything of food when I have my surgery done because of my stitches. I have to watch salt, acid, solids, etc. this generally puts me on a head on collision with a vlcd.. We tried ensure in the past and it doesn't work for me. I stay hungry. The doctor is not as worried about me losing weight as busting my stitches. Any ideas?

sarcastic. If you're PMSing you're almost certainly retaining water. Bummer that your final weigh-in had to be at that time. I wish I had some helpful suggestions, but all I can offer are hugs.

Otherwise- could you make your own smoothies? Greek yogurt, spinach or kale, fruit etc?

Thanks. I am trying not to be too upset. There were several other girls with the same problem. one girl was 2 pounds under her goal then woke up being 4 pounds over! it sucks because the guys don't have to deal with this. But yeah, as I said. I did awesome. and I'm ready to not worry about the scale and do some strength training and body weight workouts and really see the inches go away. that is way more important to me, anyway!

sarcastic- That's probably what I will end up doing is juicing again. I have to watch my dairy intake too unfortunately (lactose intolerant ). Luckily I have a Jack Lalanne juicer and an awesome blender. And I do love me some Naked Juice. Maybe this time will be better because Mom won't be giving me a 250 calorie Ensure every hour or two, I can get water to keep me full and then drink a lot of juice. I will have 2-4 weeks of this carp again. Meh.
Can you make milk shakes out of soy milk or coconut milk or almond milk? And ice cream substitutes? Or do they disintegrate?
Playing mean trick on Mom tonight... making tacos, but I mixed lentils into the ground beef mix to cut the amount of actual meat. Still has beefy texture and flavor, but healthier.

sarcastic- Celery is a natural diuretic. You could drink celery juice or eat celery.

Miz- I love almond milk. I used to make shakes with almond milk and some beach body shakeology powder. they were pretty good.
I have already been drinking green tea and tons of water- so adding another diuretic to the mix probably isn't the best idea. I would end up dehydrated. Plus, I am really tired of peeing 4 times every hour.
So I am just going to soldier on doing the same things... and if i lose my diet bet, oh well. I know that really I won. so whatever lol

What's celery without hot wings anyway?
Thanks for the input on the almond milk! I really love it and it's more satisfying than just juice. And I don't mind bananas too much either.

mizbear - I would just drink another ensure if I were hungry and use this as an opportunity to jump-start some weight loss. Possibly not recommended for others, as I am clearly a little crazy.

Sarcastic, Yes you DID do great. Even if the scale doesn't cooperate for either of us tomorrow for our final weigh in, I'm proud of both of us for the weight that we did lose on this challenge. I'm glad you joined the Dietbet with me!

I'll work out an upper/lower body challenge tonight and anyone interested can begin with me tomorrow. I am also going to take measurements and track that as of tomorrow. I pulled out a couple of cute dresses from my closet for inspiration. I'm not sure if I can get into them by the end of the month... but I am sure going to try! I may even break down and dig out jillian michael's 30 day shred. that rotten b*#&$

I'm glad you joined the Dietbet with me! oh yeah... this is all YOUR FAULT! Just kidding! it was fun and challenging and honestly, I'd go back and do it again... it was a great way to jump start the year. Here's to US! Also- DH was really sweet this morning. As I was moping around getting ready for work he stopped me and gave me a big hug and said "I know you are disappointed but you shouldn't be, you did great, you worked hard and I can see the difference. I am proud of you" Now that I think about it... I should have asked him to give me $25 from his fun money to cover the cost of my bet

You're the only one of many people that I tried to talk into this that actually was crazy enough to try it with me! I would do it again... You want to? Seriously though, be proud of how much you accomplished in 4 weeks! That's a big deal! And you are on a great roll, so keep it going. Before you know it, you'll be meeting and exceeding all kinds of goals. I'm in on the upper/lower challenge BTW... I think taking measurements is a great idea too. We can track how many we lose by the end of February.

I was doing the math and I think that I can actually make the smoothies cheaper than I can buy ensure even with coupons. As long as I get minimal calories (since I won't be allowed to do anything except lay in bed and do homework for a minimum of 2 weeks), I should be ok. I think that is what part of the problem was before when I had the surgery last year- Mom was dumping 1200-2000 calories in me a day because she thought I was starving. Between the pain killers and the stitched up swollen mouth after the first 10 days- I couldn't argue- nor did I feel like it.
I just got an e-mail from the doctor of all the things I can have for a minimum of 30 days after my surgery... no seeds, nuts, large amounts of cheese or dairy, no spicy foods (with a handwritten note from the doctor that that was at my own discretion), no excess sodium or acid, and a plant based soft or liquid bland diet was highly recommended oh and no alcohol, tobacco or artificial sweeteners. In fact excess sugars are also highly discouraged.
I called his nurse and asked what I ever did to him.
That said, I am going to use it as an opportunity to jump start my weight loss and clean my eating habits up.

Didn't take the doggies out for a walk yesterday. Day 3 of being stuck home because of ice finally cracked me. Like seriously, I was HAPPY to go to work today. Ugh. But, I did take them today as soon as I got home, and they were super excited and now snoring their lives away. Great suggestions on the workout clothes too. I've always been anti-sportsbra, but you guys are making me think I should give it another go. chiver - what does swordfish taste like? I'm trying to add more fish/seafood in so I get more protein variety. I'm going to start with tuna and salmon next week but I will be perusing the fish case and seeing what other things my grocery has available. tcu - it never fails that when I run out of healthy snacks at work, it is guaranteed I will end up with the munchies ners - 2,000,000 steps in 6 months?! seriously?! and you're almost there?! happy prose - you're suggestion about a picture of myself in a bathing suit for motivation sucks! I don't want to give myself a heart attack every time I go to the fridge acemom - awesome willpower avoiding the lunch out sarcastic - I have decided that mother nature and dietbet are just in on a conspiracy. We all know you won that bet. Can we send a petition or something on your behalf? Seriously though, you did really great this month! mizbear - sending lots of good thoughts and good juju your way for your upcoming procedure missk - so much of this is just a head game for me. I am totally the one who would give up after one setback. Sarcastic and bsbound are right, allow yourself some splurges and small changes one at a time. Setting small goals is really the only way I can keep myself from getting overwhelmed. And once I get overwhelmed - that's it. I would just give up. Motivation waxes and wanes too. I let myself have a bad day or two, I just have to work really hard to not stay stuck in that rut. Letting it go so I can keep moving forward is hard!

And now that I am all caught up............... Does anybody know what today is? Huh? Huh? Do you? Do you? Today is January 31st. That means we all made it to the end of January!
For me personally, this is the longest I have ever (and I do mean ever) stuck with any kind of diet/fitness plan in my entire life! Now that I'm done tooting my own horn, I thought it would be a good time to ask for a 15 second blurb on how your January went. I've learned a lot from all of you - more than I ever thought actually - so I'm interested in how things have worked for you all. When did you start the Get Fit thread, are you satisfied with your overall goal progress, satisfied with the progress you made this month, things that worked well for you this month, things that sucked, new things you want to try for February, that sort of thing. Here's mine: I started the Get Fit thread on 1/1/14 and had a crappy start for the first full week of January. But, I managed to stick it out which was a major accomplishment for me (see dancing bananas above). I've had more progress towards my goal than I expected. Most of January I focused on the food/nutrition aspect. Sticking to my calorie goal, making some better choices, finding ways to still have things I like so I don't feel deprived. I've done a few physical activity things this month, but nothing too serious, mostly just stuff to keep me off the couch so I can at least not be so darn sedentary. For February, I have a couple of food type things I want to work on, but since I'm pretty happy with the diet side, I'm going to focus more on getting some "real" physical activity in the upcoming month.

I joined when we started the get fit thread I think....
I have not had anywhere near the progress I have wanted, but I see that changing.
I will shut up now because I was told earlier today y someone unrelated to the threads that I talk way too much

JANUARY PROGRESS: I joined some time in 2013 but didn't get serious. At the end of December I finally got serious and made absolute certain that I took all my meds for my metabolic disorder. I was great at only taking them in the AM then not at night. Or skipping days.
In January there were only 3 days when I didn't crack 10,000 steps. 2 of those days I was sick. Not a single day did I eat more calories than I burned. I think I lost a total of 8.6 pounds... Before the current PMS bloat ( am up 0.6)

i read the get fit thread last year.
I started posting on 1/4/2014.
For the month of January I have lost 7.4. Since I started tracking on this board I have lost 5.2. I had gained a bit over the holidays. Since I started tracking in August of 2013 I have lost over 20 pounds.
For February I would like to get at least 10,000 steps per day.
At this point I would love to continue losing however for me it will be a victory just to keep off the weight.

Oh wow! Do you ladies see the things you said? Change, maintenance, getting serious. Those are all really important concepts for making a lifestyle change. And the progress that you have all made. Holy crap on a cracker! That's some really good stuff! ners - you will be able to maintain the loss. Look how far you've already come and how much your lifestyle habits have changed. You have done all the hard work to set yourself up for success and it's going to stay with you. mizbear - I read your posts and all the things you have going on. I've been the girl working a full time job and carrying a full time university course load. The fact that you have any time left over to do anything else has me sitting here in amazement. Progress is not nearly as important as change. Once things are changing the progress will take care of itself. sarcastic - I didn't like that "get serious" comment at all. Ewwwwww. It struck a really deep chord with me. I had a craptastic 2013 and finally just decided I was done with all the things in my life I didn't like. Joining this thread was a way for me to work on one aspect and finally "get serious" about fitness and weight loss. But getting to that final "get serious" moment was rough. But you are so right! At some point you just have to be serious and do it. Sometimes life really is that simple no matter how hard we try to use excuses to make it seem otherwise. Overall, I'm really looking forward to hanging out with you guys for February. We have all done so much, yet we all have so much left to do!

checking in quickly this AM, will do a "January progress" when I get back from getting my hair done. oof, am I getting old. I had two Bud lights last night at the Lady Antebellum show, and I feel like I got hit by a train this morning. and, I'm 3lbs heavier on the scale than yesterday morning. but, I know that's likely the beer, and like my headache, it will eventually leave me in peace. hope y'all are having a happy Saturday so far. it's going to be a beautiful weekend here in MA, I'm going to have the windows open for some of it tomorrow if I stay home!

Sarcastic...congrats on the 8lbs! I lost 3 for the month of january, but I screwed off a lot. Here's to a better february!
I eat oatmeal for breakfast, lunch is turkey, tomato, mustard wrap, apple, mini babybel as snacks, and dinner is varied. Usually soup with toasted pita, or moz and tom toasted on a pita. It's after dinner snacking that gets me.

I just went back & found the last time I actually reported my weight (it was in the Holiday Weight Gain thread) - I was at 132.5 on January 2nd. Where was I yesterday? 132.5.

So- I woke up with a craving for waffles. which, i never eat. I found a recipe online. made them... ate breakfast... plugged in the recipe and yeah. I just had an 1100 calorie breakfast. If I am hungry at lunch, I will have a yogurt. I have a party tonight- it is a pig party... as in ham, pork etc. lol I will keep things in check I shell get in all my steps. get in another workout and I should have a little deficit or at the very least, break even. according to fit bit I have burned at least 2400 every day for the last week (Including BMR) So there's no reason why I can't have a little deficit today. and p.s. I didn't even step on the scale today to try for dietbet. my belly is SO bloated... I know that there's no way in hell it went down. stupid mother nature!

Sarcastic... the first thing I thought this morning when I woke up was that it was the last day for the diet bet and wondered how you were going to end up. Are you not going to submit a final weigh in?
