We found out a while ago that there are services to turn cremation ashes into diamonds now, in a variety of colors and carats.  

I looked at DH and told him it sort of puts a new meaning on "family heirlooms."  You can pass along your mother.  Not your mother's favorite necklace or ring, literally, your mother arrayed on a necklace or set on a ring.  Might even get a whole family tree representing on one huge multi-strand draping necklace.  You could point to each gem, and say "there's great uncle Mark, that blue one is Great Grandma J..." etc.

Mom always said she wanted to be in an urn on a mantle too, so she could stick around.  But now she says she likes the idea of being diamonds and going to parties better.  She's going to need grand kids who like parties for that though...

Women are way too catty & I can just see my luck/Karma in becoming a diamond, but not being big enough or flashy enough for kiddo's intended.  I'd have to haunt the future DIL for not liking me as a diamond. 

I'll stick with watching tv from my urn.  I'll have to suffer thru watching basketball, but I'll get to see lots and lots of football.  I'm good with that. 


My actual wishes, in writing, are that I want to be cremated, divided up, with anyone that wants a little jar of steff can have me to spread where they want.  No high places, no deep water & if my brother sprinkles me off a bridge, I have made a blood oath to haunt his ass for eternity(yes that is actually in writing & he's enough of a smart ass to actual do just that).  Any remaining ashes go to kiddo, he can actually spread all my ashes if he wants.  IF he keeps me around, I demand to be able to see a tv.

it's one thing to decorate grampa with Christmas lights when he falls asleep in his chair.  it's a whole nother thing to decorate dead mom for the holidays.

I have a small urn of my grampa's ashes.  He's in the china hutch in my guest room.  When new friends of kiddo's come over (and they have a sense of humor), he'll tell them that they have to be quiet because his great grampa is sleeping.  Then he'll play it up for a few hours.  When they come upstairs for something, he'll ask if grampa is up & can his friends meet him.  He'll take them into the pink room, while talking to grampa & then introduce his friends to the urn. 

yes, we're warped & play jokes with grampa.  He would appreciate the humor.

It took a HUGE prank, but I finally broke my middle brother from his traditional April Fool's Day jokes. 

The year after he pretty much got everyone he knew, I used those same people to help me get him back.  I had his work truck stolen.     he doesn't mess with me anymore.

A LifeGem clear diamond can be as inexpensive as $3500-$7500 (approx). That's a decent sized stone if you compare it to a real diamond.

And it's also a heck of a lot less cost than a cremation or funeral/internment expenses.

Yeah, I grew up with one of the owners of Life Gem. It's expensive, and they just use a small portion of your remains. You still have to dispose of the rest of the body.
You can even make a Life Gem out of pet hair....anything carbon-based.

You can send in a lock of hair from a living loved one. If you have any questions, I can ask him next time I see him. He was back in Montreal from Berlin a few weeks ago (We went to the Brazilian Film Festival) and we get together when he's back in town.
