And there I stop you. Mind you dear, I do not read posts longer than 2 sentences. So if you want to say something to ME (not anyone else, hhmm, just me) - please, do not waste your time past 2 short sentenses. Thanks That explains alot.

Ok, I'll just keep going. Assuming you did register your business with the state, you would have received a federal tax ID number. This number is kind of like your social security number. It means that the government considers your business an entity separate from yourself. Just as you and your husband file taxes with your social security numbers, so the government can identify you, you also need to file taxes for the business, using the tax ID number. (see Dark's post above re: filing quarterly and annual taxes). Because you and your business are separate entities, you cannot mix your personal income (which seems to be partly a salary you pay yourself and partly food from the store) with the revenue, then profit, of the store. This is why everyone is saying you either need to purchase your food with cash that you give to the store, or you need to declare the value of it on your PERSONAL income taxes. No, YOU did not buy the food. The business (with it's federal tax ID number) did. If you are not keeping everything separate, and not paying taxes on everything appropriaately, that is tax fraud and it is against the law. The government takes tax fraud very, VERY seriously. You also need to know that it does not matter that you don't understand this. Sooner or later you will come up for audit, and you will face huge fines and possibly prison time. If you did NOT register your business with the state, you have another problem on your hands, as you are likely operating illegally. There are some types of businesses (such as certain home businesses or consulting jobs) that you would not necessarily need to register, but you are running a retail organization - I can't imagine that the state doesn't require a license for it. Please check out www.SBA.gov for some information. Welcome to the boards. Thank you for attempting to help. As you likely saw, for some - if it's beyond two sentences you've gone beyond their attention span. Short sentences with small words are usually best, not that it would make any difference whatsoever.

Ignorant isn't a protected class, yet. So they can be exploited for good TV whenever with no repercussions. Dark is on fire today! Keep Dark out of the wooden toys alley... And if you ask me - ignorant ARE supposed to be protected. Its not our fault! And btw have you spelled 'repercussions' right?

True, but willfully ignorant is another matter. If you were genuinely clueless and asking for/willing to listen to advice it would be one thing. You've been given advice for 4-5 years now though, and still choose to remain ignorant. How can that be anyone's fault but your own?

WOW! thecaptain...who ARE you? and were have you been? Archie, is it you in disquise? Most of my posts use large words and are more than two sentences long, so it's highly likely you've not noticed me before. (There, one sentence for you with no word's above third grade level, however this sentence makes two)

IDK, I watch Resturant Impossible every once and awhile and quite a few places on there have managed to limp along for YEARS without any clue about how to run a business. When he does visual exercises on how much money their losing/wasting it's staggering. Question is do you want to limp along forever with the likely outcome of imploding or do you pull your head out and get a clue?

If a lawyer walks in during the middle of a police interrogation, shut the fuck up, is probably the single best piece of legal advice they can give their client. If more dumbasses would keep their traps shut in front of the police, in front of the judge and jury, and on Facebook, there would be less of them in prison right now.

Loony, that's her bargain rate. She charges like $150 per hour. She's trying to save you from a life of cabbage and stale bread three times a day and a roommate named Bertha.

Suit yourself. It's a reference to a urban fantasy novel by the way. The Iron Druid Chronicles. There's a scene in the fourth book where the two main characters try to explain relative make believe units of measurement (like buttload and fuckton) to a Navajo medicine man. The books aren't great, but they make me laugh out loud at least a couple times per novel.

Maybe insurance companies will accept payments in veggies. That takes care of both the tax fraud and the mandated employer health coverage in one fell swoop.
Call it the PPACA: "Profitable Produce Alternative Care Act", or colloquially, "LoonyCare".

Great. Archie since I'm just reading this thread today perhaps you can explain Loony's $200K/yr. minus expenses to me. I get the minus $48K for salaries, $48K business bills, but remain curious about the rest including $300/wk food and supporting 4 families. Thx.

Uh... what?
Look there are like several threads to this conversation all going at once. I'm responding to several of them all at once. You have to infer from my post, and who I quote in it, which comments belong with which tangents. If you apply a comment to the wrong one it won't make any damn sense and will confuse everyone.

Are you the one who if doesn't have problem - creates it for self And youll be surprised how grammar police here works! You might be jealous of me after all...so do not ask for unknown.

We have grammar secret police. They show up at night, cart you off in a van that smells like rotting fish and produce, and beat you until you can perfectly diagram sentences and pass spelling tests. It's pretty brutal.

OMG that series is awesome! I agree they aren't the best written novels ever but Oberon cracks me up.
