I am really sorry if it had been beaten to death, I was just alerted by my customer about me MUST be having an insurance or else... What if I can't freaking afford anything extra at this point? Will gov pay my insurance just because my P$L even?
Just please, tell me what you guys are doing if you are like me small business owners with no FT employees unable to afford insurance?
I am so surprised I HAVE to have an insurance by Jan,1st 2014.
Who sighned THAT law?

Lol. I can't tell if you are serious?
Wait till the end of November and the Fed exchange should be up and running. Yes, you should get a subsidy...

Also, the penalty for the first year is intentionally low, starting at as little as $95 annually for failing to have creditable coverage. For more info: www.healthcare.gov/

Not sure whether PA has it's own or goes through the fed? The Fed is healthcare.gov. You'll need your W2 to know how much you earned last year to find out how much it will cost you.

You might have options because you are a business, but I have no idea.

Loony,
The penalty this for 2014 is very small, and it stays pretty small for a few years. Also, the ONLY way they can collect the penalty is if you have a federal tax refund. If you structure your withholdings so that you have no refund they cannot collect the penalty. Not saying that is the right thing to do, just putting it out there.

The Healthcare Exchange for Pennsylvania (you're in PA, right?) is located here: h ttps://www.healthcare.gov/marketplace/individual/#state=pennsylvania2. The Affordable Care Act was signed by Congress and the current President in 2010. You can learn about it at the above website. Here's the Wikipedia entry on it, if it helps: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act

I was stating some facts, not making a statement about the ACA itself. As for me, I currently have employer coverage but I've kept abreast of the ACA changes because I will probably be changing employment in 2014 and will probably be using the exchange in my state to look for coverage.

And the exchanges have been open for a month (or at least bless their little souls have tried to be) so it definitely shouldn't be news?

You obviously haven't seen the many long and cantankerous threads we've had here debating the merits of the ACA.... This thing was enacted 3 years ago, so you'll have to understand that the rest of us have already dealt with all this while apparently you've been busy playing with your melons.

Looney there are two different types of subsidies that you may be eligible for. There is a subsidy for low income people/families to help them purchase insurance through the exchanges. There is also a subsidy for small business owners to help them with insurance costs for their employees. You should probably investigate both of these and see if you are eligible for either one of these subsidies and if so which one would work better for you.

You'll probably get a subsidy that pays for most of the insurance so YOU should be thrilled about this! You will have medical coverage for dirt cheap. Did you actually go on the website to test it out? I know it has a lot of problems still but it can answer many of your questions before you panic. Check it out and then come back here and report what you found out. It's raining and boring here.

You said "more" people would be afraid in 2014. Which implies that people are already afraid to call 911. So my question stands.

This is what bothers me about ACA. Despite all the hype over the past three years, and especially the past few months, there are people that are still completely uninformed. Some of them vote.

PA is on the federal exchange. That's why I said wait a few weeks... It's not operational yet. Or, you can call instead. Here is the link... www.healthcare.gov

You said "more" people would be afraid in 2014. Which implies that people are already afraid to call 911. So my question stands. So this guy would NOT be calling if it was 2014 already. That was MORE means. Today you are brave, tomorrow you are afraid which means: ONE! MORE! who is afraid. 11 more than 10...so forth...
