Was just at the store- the same one where we have a local open carry idiot that walks in all of the time with a freaking button holster and noticed the magazine rack to the side- next to the tattoo girls magazines were 3 different gun magazines. Having this background I will give a pass to Guns&Ammo as it is a quality publication- however this other bullshit hit a nerve. I saw 'Combat Handguns' magazine. This joke of a magazine spends it time glorifying weapons as male enhancements and spinning self-defense stories and false tactical bullshit on how to deal with multiple armed aggressors. They might as well train how to survive a plane crash because it is more likely. WTF? How did this happen to us? See for yourself: www.google.com/search?q=combat+handgun+magazine&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=codkUtH5HoTu8QTijoAg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=651&dpr=1'Macho 9MM' says it all- or 'Warrior .45'- You are not a warrior, you are just some shlub with a gun. That's the problem- we have a country full of wimps that are too scared to fight so they pack heat. Ghetto or suburb- bunch of wimps- like GZ- king of the wimps.

I'm not going to click on the link now. Some gun culture is OK, those who are gun nuts because they are afraid of the world ... that gun culture is worrisome ... so in that we agree.
Some people buy guns for protection and IMO some of them wish issues into their life so they can use it. Not unlike punk guys from the suburbs who wanted to be tough and show off their martial arts or fighting skills that would end up picking bar fights. IMO being a warrior is a mindset. It has nothing to do with owning a gun, any weapon, or to some extent even knowing how to fight. A warrior knows how to leverage him or herself and what they have at hand. Guns can easily be turned against you by people who know what they are doing. Having a gun can sometimes just mean the outcome is going to be more violent or fatal than it would have been with out it. (Steps off soapbox....
Sorry, having problems sleeping again. Wanders out of thread looking for puppies and a warm bath.)

That's the problem- we have a country full of wimps that are too scared to fight so they pack heat. Ghetto or suburb- bunch of wimps- like GZ- king of the wimps. You know, I almost agree with you on the gun culture. Remember Soldier of Fortune? Is that one still out there? Then there is Mad Magazine too, which was my favorite in my early teens. Then I got to thinking. I want the Koran banned in America. I want the one about bomb making for anarchists banned-cannot remember the actual title. The Anarchist's cook book? I want the internet article showing how to make a nuclear bomb banned. My local grocery store-which does not sell guns or ammo, does sell way too many women's magazines advertising ways to attract males, lose the stomach fat, and how to achieve the proper orgasm. Some parents think that should be banned, as well as the annual bathing suit issue in Sports Illustrated. Ban them all! Burn the books! On second thought, maybe Freedom of speech is not quite that bad. We just cannot pick and choose, but I agree I wish sometimes we, or in this case, you or I, could. Just do not know which religious cleric, professor, or politician would get the job. And we all know how that would work out. There is just no middle ground on this issue.

You are forgetting half the population here. I'm a petite female. I can't fight you and win in hand-to-hand combat. Now maybe I should go take some "kick ass" classes, but my guess is that you outweigh me by 100 pounds, are probably close to a foot taller and have 3 times my strength. All things equal, I'm not afraid to fight, but since all things are NOT equal, I'm evening the odds.
I'm not walking through life afraid. I'm walking through it prepared. I know firsthand "what evil lurks in the hearts of man". I understand and agree with most of what you said about some of this gun craziness being....crazy..., but I think you are forgetting that there are those weaker and less able to macho it though life.

There are other ways to equalize a situation though besides guns. I'm a 5'5" to 5'6" female, so not petite but not tall and Amazonian either. I study a martial art made popular in America by B.K. Frantzis(sp?) called Bagua and there is also Aikido which uses an opponents's size and momentum just to name two disciplines, weapons optional, that work for smaller and more knowledgeable versus larger. Obviously if they have equal knowledge it may go to the bigger person or the least predictable, but smaller size is not destiny.
For those who are interested, BK details his experiences in China while seeking masters. He got his ass kicked by old men, old women even though he was fairly good in Karate at the time in the states. He's a big guy and apparently somewhat of an ass according to people who know you have met him. But to summarize, that over 200lb. guy studied with at least one Bagua master so he could understand how they were beating him and has written some impressive detailed books detailing what he learned and continues to learn.

I did say gun's & ammo was a good magazine and I am not into banning even the dumb ones- but it would be nice if we could find a way to eliminate this freakish obsession some people have.
I guess there are two views and two types of people- some think an armed society is a polite society and others think having guns everywhere is a recipe for trouble- and they can both be right- which brings us to the other two types of people that carry guns (other than cops and criminals)- those that do so discretely and those idiots that consider them part of their douchebag outfit and wear them around to make sure everyone sees they have one. My guess is the latter is a Combat Handgun type of person.

I don't worry about being physically able to defend myself. I carry a gun which does my fighting for me.

I don't think evt was forgetting that, at all. I doubt very seriously you subscribe to a magazine that promotes combat guns, GEL. As evt made clear, there are good magazines about guns out there. There are also magazines that appeal to the lesser amongst us.

Good point- it's gun porn.
I think I would rather people fantasize about a three-way with some supermodels than fantasize about having a shootout. But I guess it is harmless until it isn't.
I am much more troubled by the open carry morons around here- might as well have a target on their shirt. I call it irresponsible gun ownership per se.

Aren't some of the posters supposedly carrying permits themselves? Or is that "another story?" So IF they are and IF they actually took the classes in order to do so, they may be disgusted by someone openly carrying like its a statement of some sorts, or they can feel safer that they know the person is armed instead of guessing.

Chapman suffered minor injuries when he was hit in the hand by a stray shotgun pellet. He refused any medical treatment and was booked into the Pinal County Jail for one count of disorderly conduct. And they arrested the guy who got shot. Wow!

Arizona is a community property state. The wife had a right to invite a guest into her house. The husband had no right to threaten the invited guest with a gun.

The male resident poked Chapman with his cane(not the gun) to wake him up. When Chapman awoke, he allegedly became verbally abusive towards the man
Chapman refused to leave the residence after being told to(like bills said technically he didn't have to?), and (but)the man reportedly felt threatened when Chapman came at him.
like any 62 year old would when being attacked by a 22 year old .
he didn't threaten him with the gun. he defended himself.

They got in an argument. The husband had a gun. The other man just might have "felt threatened" by that fact like any human being would when facing potentially being shot by another human being. Did the man attempt to take the gun away from the husband so that he wouldn't be shot? Would that be "disorderly conduct"? Or would that be self defense?

... he didn't threaten him with the gun. he defended himself. He walked into the bedroom of an invited guest with a gun and woke the man up.
