For the YM crowd - that's a rhetorical question.
But I can see how in non-YM world parents would be doing this

I read last week that when he asked for the kids who destroyed his house to come help clean up only 1 kid showed up with his dad. If I had a kid that partook I would have had him or her there all day (would have helped as well) and longer if necessary and would have zero problem with the owner posting their pictures online. Act like an idiot and you deserve to get called out. He got all of the pictures from social media sites when the kids posted them on their own and some parents are threatening to sue. It's pathetic.

Not only would my kid be there, but I would as well. That whole thing is truly horrific.

that letter is just enough short of scathing that it might actually sink in to some of the parents. maybe.

My kid would absolutely be there helping with the cleaning, if they were stupid enough to trash someone else's place.
After accepting whatever punishment the homeowner gave them, they'd have to worry about what penalty they'd be getting from their own Mom & Dad!
What a bunch of enabling wimps for parents!

I would hire some of the guys that hang out at home depot to pose as my kids and go help.

And people wonder why our society is going to hell in a handbasket. I cannot believe the absolute nerve of some people. Only one kid showed up, how absolutely pathetic (I know you already said it souldoubt, but if I said anything else my head might explode).

Not only would my kid be there, so would part (or all) of his savings! And I would sit right next to swamp making sure he didn't slack off.

Only one kid showed up, how absolutely pathetic (I know you already said it souldoubt, but if I said anything else my head might explode). It epitomizes the problem in this country where people don't take responsibility for their actions and the icing on the cake is the parents threatening to sue. The more I read about the owner of the house the more I got po'd. The way he went about the entire thing seems like absolute class considering he had every right to be mad and could threaten legal action. To top it off one of the articles I read last week said that it wasn't going to prevent him and his family from putting on a potluck/food event that he had planned for veterans I believe at the property.

I'd like to think this is a non-issue and that I had raised my son better than to be there in the first place. However, if he was there and helped trash that house he would be there helping to clean it back up.
Now "they" are claiming that the house was empty for nearly a year and that it had been the site of several parties over the year. They think the owner is trying to get sympathy and money since the bank is set to foreclose.
We had several kids break into one of our empty office buildings that we owned. They spray painted the place up and caused some damage. My dad (the owner) was complaining to his friends at their regular Saturday breakfast about it. One of the other guys went home and was telling his family about it that night at dinner. Their son got very upset and fessed up that he had been with the kids that had done it. His dad called my dad and said "my son needs to talk to you" and handed the phone to the kid. He fessed up and came down to help clean up the mess he and his friends had made- none of his friends would come and help him even after his dad called the other parents to rat out their kids.

Have you checked out Brian Holloway's site helpmesave300? It has pictures and tweets from that night.

After accepting whatever punishment the homeowner gave them, they'd have to worry about what penalty they'd be getting from their own Mom & Dad! What a bunch of enabling wimps for parents! I found out the hard way that apparently I'm a "tough" parent. There is a really awesome sheriff's deputy that works at the boys' school. Everybody loves her but they're also terrified of her - she's like 6' and built like a brick outhouse, doesn't take any crap. Anyway, DS#1 got in trouble a couple of years ago, and the deputy called me at home to let me know, but did it in a very soft way. She started out by telling me it had been handled and I didn't need to be angry or punish DS and that, in her opinion, although she needed to punish him because of the rules of the school, he was justified in his action. (He hit a known bully.) After a few minutes, she told me that DS was terrified of how angry I'd be with him and that she was calling to make sure I knew he didn't need any more punishment. So I'm more terrifying than a 6' tall woman with a gun, apparently. So yeah, my kids would probably rather deal with this homeowner than me.

If my brothers and I had done something so stupid, we would have been there helping clean up. Cleaning up his house would have paled in comparison to the punishments my parents would have come up with.

If my child survived the can of whoop-ass her father and I opened on her she would absolutely be there to help clean.
Then I would sit down with Swamp and Joss.
At least one parent held his kid accountable.

The younger generation is filled with morons. How dumb do you have to be to tweet pics of yourself and others proving you were trespassing and breaking the law?
My kid would be there and would probably be showing up to volunteer for the next several weeks. No way that house is cleaned up in a day.

Yes, if I had a kid who had participated I would have made them go and help clean up. Hell, I'd probably even go myself to help too, out of shame. And that would only be the preamble to the punishments I would dole out to them.
My guess is the parents who are suing see it's an ex NFL player and smell money. Shameful.

I probably couldn't sit for a week and if too old for that, you can be sure I'd be walking, biking or taking the bus for the next six months.

Holloway is a better person than I am. My response to 299 kids not showing up and their parents suing would be for me to go after them legally. I gave you a chance to play nice. Not to mention the stupid twerps gave him all the evidence he needs by posting on facebook.
As a retired NFL player he probably has a lot more time/money to make these people's lives miserable than they do his.
Holloway is a class act, IMO.

I'd also be losing those electronic toys they used to post the pics to Twitter in the first place. The Twitter account would also be gone as it would be apparent that I was too dumb to have one!
While I think they were stupid to trash the house, I think a lot of kids don't realize once it leaves your phone/computer/tablet it is out there forever. And there can be negative consequences associated with what you put out there.

At least one parent held his kid accountable. Damned right I agree with this. And these idiot helicopter parents are all worried that their little darlings' chances of getting into college might be ruined on account of Holloway's posting? Good. If I had pulled a stunt like that, I might be washing floors at the college of my choice - after my dad knocked me into next year. And I understand an attorney has come forward to defend Holloway, should any parents decide to sue him. This attorney has made it clear he will not only defeat any and all lawsuits filed by parents, he will countersue them - and win. The morons whose spoiled brats did this had better think twice about suing. If Holloway wins damages, they could very well say good-by to the money saved for those college educations.
