George Zimmerman is being detained by police after allegedly threatening his wife's father with a gun.

It happened in Lake Mary, Florida this afternoon. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, called 911 and said her dad and George had gotten into a big argument and George had his hand on a gun.

We're told cops are at The Zimmerman house right now and have George detained for questioning. There appears to be no one injured.

Shellie filed for divorce last week. She went on TV and trashed George, saying he was making "reckless decisions."

WKMG news is reporting that George Zimmerman, who in July was acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin, has been taken into custody in Lake Mary, Florida, after "an incident involving a gun with another person."

Police say they were called to a Sprucewood Road residence to investigate an argument that involved a gun and a threat. Zimmerman's mother in law, Machelle Dean, lives on Sprucewood Road, but it is unclear if the argument took place at her home. Jeff Weiner of the Orlando Sentinel reports that police have confirmed that Zimmerman is in custody for a "possible domestic battery."

Just read the story about the gun incident. What struck me in the article I read was that she described him as feeling invincible which was actually my worry during the trial. I had a feeling he wouldn't feel lucky or remorseful like some posters suggested. I had the feeling
he'd be triumphant he was acquitted and you'd only feel invincible IMO if you felt you got away with something.



Hopefully the divorce will go quickly and no further nonsense will occur, but somehow, I'm thinking that's not how its going to unfold.

Our entire legal system has been doing that for far longer...why no issues there?

I'm just shocked!  SHOCKED I tellz ya!  He was such an upstanding citizen and hero and I was so thankful he was a productive member of society that all should emulate and Bonus! lived so close to us!  I felt so much safer knowing he was driving around with another gun to protect us here in Central Florida.  <<sarcasm at it's highest level>>

Too bad the Lake Mary police are having to deal with this nut job because the Sanford police botched the last situation.  The lawyers can't do their jobs properly when the cops don't do their jobs at all.  It all goes back the  police force in Sanford why this cluster----- turned out the way it did.  I just hope nobody else gets killed because this guy feels it's his duty to play God before he gets put away or seeks mental help.  A normal person would be on their best behavior and not the arrogant fool this guy has proven to be.

Told ya we haven't heard the last from that guy.  She needs to get as far away from him as possible and probably arm herself.  This could end very badly.

What she needs to do is file charges.  As long as she and her father refuse to file charges, they're aiding and abetting his behavior.  Somebody is going to get hurt.  It may be Shellie, or her father, or some other faultless victim.

It was so easy to believe that the young black kid walking home from the store was the one who was looking for trouble.

People still are not going to believe it.  It doesn't make sense to them that a black kid could be an innocent victim of a 'responsible gun owner'.  I doubt if he kills someone else it would change their minds.  They will blame the prosecution and the media for making him do it and treat him as a sad victim of government persecution.

     O'Mara confirmed Zimmerman had his gun on him. "He was armed ... He put his hand (on the gun) to make sure it was holstered," he said. "He knows how to carry responsibly."

     Police initially took away Zimmerman's gun, but O'Mara said it was later returned to his client.
