Ok I am in no way geeky and I make fun of my coworker for his geekiness sometimes. I do however know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. I mean did this guy live under a rock? And not reading Harry Potter? I think I'd have to him for living under a rock and being less than well rounded! I admit, I've not seen most of the Harry Potter movies but I've read the books, repeatedly. I haven't seen the movies, nor have I read the books... and I never plan to. It's just not my thing.

You know, I used to have the deal breaker of height (I'm fairly tall), but ended up with an awesome DH who is shorter than me. That is a deal breaker for me...I'm 5'8" and close to 6' in my shoes....I can't have a man shorter than me. The shortest guy I ever dated is my dh and he is 6'... I'm only 5'5", so I can't use my height as an excuse... i'm just an ass.

I kicked a co-worker out of the office the other day and threatened to fire him (I was joking about firing him). I eat lunch at my desk and watch an episode of tv on Netflix every day. I happened to be watching BSG and told him so when he asked me. He said "that show is stop and I don't know why they keep making movies about it" I told him I think you mean Star Trek. He said "Star Trek, Star Wars, whatever you are watching it's all the same thing". I said "Back slowly out of my office and leave now before I fire you" He just laughed and left. Ok Battle Star Galactica is so not the same as Star Trek or Star Wars. Again I'd have to them for stupidity. There's a difference between not giving a crap about a genre and being stupid. I make the same joke to DH. He makes a similar joke about chick flicks.

Sure you ladies say you've got standards here, but we all know that the moment a "misunderstood" guy in a really bad band rolls into town, you'd all be lining up to pay his bills.

Bob Ross - see, you just reminded me- not getting the "more cowbell" reference, I think, would be a deal breaker for me, and I'm not even an SNL fan. I love me some Christopher Walken

I watched 30 minutes of one of the movies to humor DD and when she fell asleep, off it went. I read a LOT, I've been known to read the phone book if I was bored enough, and I had no interest in the HP books.

Shanen- we were talking about all things geek related the other day (in a good way) and our friend told us that her 16 year old daughter broke up with a boy for two reasons- 1. he had never read Harry Potter and 2. he didn't know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars. She dumped him on the spot for that one. Not knowing the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars is unforgivable, but he should've gotten bonus points for not reading Harry Potter. Harry Potter is lowest-common-denominator nerdy. A friend of DW's tries to forge part of her identity by being a huge Harry Potter fan, and I'm like "What? You and the other 7 billion people on the planet." At least she didn't him for hating on sparkle vampires.

Deer might be smaller in Florida, but the limit near my dad is like 2-3 a day, not one per season like here.
I ont mind hunting or food. Appreciate it in fact. I wold have o say though, that if you wanted to bing home heads and hang them on the wall, that would be entering deal breaker territory for me.

Deer might be smaller in Florida, but the limit near my dad is like 2-3 a day, not one per season like here. Here the number of deer depends on the deer population and it can vary by where you are in the state, at least for antlerless deer and how you're hunting them. The gun season is 9 days, over Thanksgiving usually. Bow season is longer but I'm not sure how much longer. And there's a muzzle loading season too. My cousins always seem to legally get multiple deer most years. Edited to add - the Wisconsin DNR uses deer hunting as a population control. I think there's a large element of guesswork in how they come up with their numbers of deer they'd like to see killed, even though they swear there's not and it's all scientific.

I avoided Harry Potter for years and years. DS read the first 4 when he was younger but I had no interest in them. He hated the movies because he is a purist and it drives him crazy when they change things from the books when they make them into movies.
For DH's job (Engineering Technician) he spends a lot of time waiting for people to be ready for him to do testing on their job. One job had him in the middle of a cornfield for 6 months while he certified the rebar every hour. The other 45 minutes he twiddled his thumbs. Out of boredom one day (as he had finished every other book on his list) he grabbed DS' old copy of Harry Potter and read it. After he finished all 7 he suggested that I read them.
I was of the "what the hell, those are kids books" but he swore I'd like them and I was shocked when I did.
I just don't understand non-readers in general.

I think you're DH and I might be related. I got REALLY pissed with the movie version of Prisoner of Azkaban. I try to tell myself the movies are separate entities even though the share the same titles but I still find myself muttering "That's not how it happened in the book". I did the same thing with Percy Jackson after I read the books. I am such a nitpick that I was thrilled when I saw they got Annabelle's hair color right in the second movie.

Ok while some people may not like them, at least the Harry Potter books are well written. That sparkly vampire crap is just horribly written garbage.
I guess not a lot of people in Florida hunt. There would be no deer left in WV if you could get 2-3 per day.
The Harry Potter movies made more sense to me after I read the books. I haven't seen the last 4-5 movies since I read all the books.

Lightning Theif was a horrible movie.
Some movies, like Bourne movies and World War Z, at least they are good movies in their own right, if not the book. But lightning Theif was horrid.
Son would not see World War Z though, because he could tell they 'ruined' the book.
Harry Potter books are really good. It just bothers me, because some of the religious parents I know won't let their kids read HP, but will let them read twilight. Etc? ... I dont get it. HP has such great lessons... Twilight just sucks.

My mom flipped out about me reading The DaVinci Code. Too bad she left when I was 5 and I was 22 at the time I read it. The previous pope said it was a good book!
The argument I have heard from religious fanatics and HP has to do with the magic and it being evil or something like that. I don't know why Twilight wouldn't be the same.

I don't think Lightining Theif is too bad. Percy is cute. They cast him exactly as I pictured him.

I watched the 1st one, was very sad about the whole glossing over (but not too angry, that's a big old book to try to fit into ONE movie) but once I discovered they killed the wife in the 2nd movie, I was done. I didn't actually watch the 2nd or any after, so if that was some wacky "dream" or some such junk, I still don't feel like I've missed out.

Drama- It's DS that is the purist. We are bad parents and took him to see 300 when it came out because he had watched a few programs about it on the history channel. We left the theater and I noticed another couple pointing at us and heard them say "what an inappropriate movie to take a kid to". DS was 8 when it came out. So I asked him loud enough so they could overhear "well buddy, what did you think of the movie?" He went off on a 5 minute tirade about how historically inaccurate it was. Shut up that other couple that's for sure.
Oped- we watched World War Z and DH heard that the book was better. He is reading the book now and claims the only similarity between the book and the movie is basically the title.
Twilight is an abomination.

DH tried to watch Twilight. 10 minutes in he wanted to kill himself. I warned him. His sister is a HUGE fanatic. I read the first book before it really took off, I should have demanded my money back.

There is a meme that I saw once about how to watch Twilight with your girlfriend. Something along the lines of. 1. pop movie in DVD player 2. Press Play 3. Open the largest bottle of tequila you can find and start drinking straight from the bottle. 4. pray you pass out before the opening credits are over.

He thought "ooh vampires and werewolves this must be like Underworld or True Blood". I warned him it wasn't even in the same hemisphere are those two but he didn't listen. He cracked me up with his rant about how vampires aren't supposed to "sparkle".
He said he knew he should have stopped sooner but he kept holding out hope that it'd get better.

What I said about Bourne and World War Z were, yes, they are nothing like the book, BUT in those cases I could enjoy the movies in their own right as different stories.
World War Z the book was nothing like the movie. But both were good for what they were.
Its like when I make 'fake cheesecake'... And my dad says, you know, if you didn't call this cheesecake I'd just say its delicious... But I went into it expecting cheesecake... I can suspend the book from the title and just appreciate the movie... If its a good movie, Many aren't its true. I did like those however.

I might have liked Bourne if I'd never read the books, but I had, which was my point. You'd have to never read the things to enjoy it. I have to have forgotten a lot of the main points of the book to give a movie credit for being good in it's own right. I hadn't done that with Bourne. I'll probably also read WWZ rather than watch it. I've been watching Under the Dome on CBS and I'm far enough removed from the book that I can enjoy it for what it is. AND I hated how the book ended so I am hoping for a better one here. Fake cheesecake isn't cheesecake, it just isn't. I'm with your dad, call it anything else. Please. Like when my cousin used to surprise us with tofu subbed for meat when we'd have a gathering at my Aunt's. She wouldn't tell us, but we could always tell. It's not that it was awful, but you can tell it's not meat.

I honestly can't think of a whole lot of "outside the box" deal breakers. Granted I don't have a ton of dating/relationship experience. That girl that insisted I never drink alcohol was kind of a "reverse" deal breaker.
There's the obvious stuff. I'm not too keen on dating uneducated or lazy women. At this point in my life, I'm also not that keen on dating anyone with a kid from a previous relationship, but that may change at some point. I'll also say that I'm not very into grown women who still live with their parents. Overall though, I don't think I'm that picky. I evaluate everyone on a case by case basis.

At least fake cheesecake subs nuts instead of soy ... Im waiting for under the dome till its all out and I can marathon it.. World War Z the book and World War Z the movie were two totally different things. Call one by name, call the other whatever term you prefer to fake cheesecake, and dig in to both

Oh, I can think of one other thing. Someone unwilling to move away out of state. I never understood people's attachment to one place and refusing to ever move ever. Some people can't even stand living outside the same town as their parents.
