My BFF used to say that if a man proposed to her with a diamond, the answer would be no, because he obviously didn't know her well enough. Her engagement ring is an opal. Mine was- if you propose in public, I'm saying no, even if otherwise I might have said yes. Because if you feel the need to try and shame/humiliate me into agreeing to marry you, you deserve the humiliation of a no.
imawino - loved the tune in Tokyo reference. I could care less what happened to "Jake" from 16 Candles. I want to know what happened to "Jeff" from GJWthF.
Other deal breakers - not being a Star Wars fan, being a Kirk man instead of a Picard man (and if he can't answer that, WTH am I even doing talking to him), and we're probably going to have an issue if he thinks Timothy Dalton was the best Bond. If I say "I reject your reality and substitute my own" and he doesn't get the reference - gone If he doesn't want pets - gone Unwilling to read a book I recommend - gone Dislike of Indian food - gone
and the biggest deal breaker of all - if he doesn't understand that Sean Bean is at the top of my list, and if I ever have a chance at that, I'm taking it.

Being a hunter is a deal breaker for me. Sorry, I don't get hunting for "sport." If you are stranded somewhere and need to kill something to eat then so be it; otherwise, go shoot at fake targets and not some defenseless animal. And yes, I am total hypocrite because I eat both chicken and turkey, but you know, I don't go out and kill them myself. It comes from restaurants and the grocery store Oh, also if he doesn't think The Big Bang Theory is funny then he obviously has no sense of humor so "see ya."

DH always like having long hair. I think it was because his parents would buzz his hair every year like he was in the army. My deal breaker with him came about when he started getting bald spots on his head. There would be absolutly no bald head on top, but a ratty pony tail from what was left at the back.

Is it still a dealbreaker if they eat the meat? Everyone I know that hunts eats the meat or gives it to someone who needs it. West Virginia has a program where you can donate deer to the food banks. I have no use for people who kill an animal and leave it to rot.

My college boyfriend's family went to the same place, the same time of year for every vacation so that is all he wanted to do as well. BORING!! Talk about a vanilla milkshake... I had to cut that one loose.

Shanen- we were talking about all things geek related the other day (in a good way) and our friend told us that her 16 year old daughter broke up with a boy for two reasons- 1. he had never read Harry Potter and 2. he didn't know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars. She dumped him on the spot for that one.

I have no use for people who kill an animal and leave it to rot. Eating the meat makes it better but I am still not a big fan of hunting - probably because I didn't grow up around it. My biggest problem though are these people kill animals just to say they shot X. My friend's brother goes on a hunting trip to Africa every year and has killed giraffe, tigers, and God only knows what else. He isn't eating anything, just wants to say he killed it. He is one person I can barely stand to be in the same room with. There are various other things that are sickening about him as well though such as his belief that women should wait on him hand and foot. He actually FOUND one of these women

sheilaincali - It never would have occurred to me to list not know the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars as a deal breaker, because in my mind, it's not possible that someone could not know that
@gdgyva - luckily, C is as geeky as I am. Not that Keyser Soze is actually from a geeky movie, but its definitely a cultural reference point
Also, I could handle a guy who'd never seen Streets of Fire, but after I'd made him watch it, he would have to agree that 1)It has one of the best soundtracks ever, 2)Diane Lane is HOT 3)Willem Dafoe in nothing but chest high rubber waders is awesome in it's 80s kind of way.
The Warriors would be a much trickier thing. It's an awesome movie, but I get that you probably had to discover it at the right time in your life to truly get it's awesomeness, so someone coming to at as an adult might not understand. I think I might be able to live with that, but I'm not certain. Can you dig it?

I don't know anyone who's done safari hunting and I wouldn't agree with it.
As for the woman waiting on him, I've concluded some women will put up with all kind of boorish behavior as opposed to say growing a spine and supporting themselves.

I once went on a date where the dealbreaker was that I could never consume alcohol, ever again. I thought that was a bit much. I rarely drink, you can count the number of drinks I have in a year on one hand typically, but to NEVER drink seemed too much.

Ok I am in no way geeky and I make fun of my coworker for his geekiness sometimes. I do however know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. I mean did this guy live under a rock? And not reading Harry Potter? I think I'd have to him for living under a rock and being less than well rounded!

If he ax me to except his hatred of books (or anything written for that matter, LOL). Is middle aged and drives a Camaro or a Corvette and spends his weekends washing and waxing it. Says "Yo" to get someone's attention. Constantly has a toothpick hanging out of the corner of his mouth. Chews with his mouth open. Inhales his food. Can't carry on a meal-time conversation. Doesn't know how to open a wine bottle with a cork top (but knows how to open a screw top wine bottle ) Wears thong/G-string underwear.

I kicked a co-worker out of the office the other day and threatened to fire him (I was joking about firing him). I eat lunch at my desk and watch an episode of tv on Netflix every day. I happened to be watching BSG and told him so when he asked me. He said "that show is stop and I don't know why they keep making movies about it" I told him I think you mean Star Trek. He said "Star Trek, Star Wars, whatever you are watching it's all the same thing".
I said "Back slowly out of my office and leave now before I fire you" He just laughed and left.

Ok Battle Star Galactica is so not the same as Star Trek or Star Wars. Again I'd have to them for stupidity.

Well, I'm pleased to say I meet the vast majority of the criteria listed here. The only ones I don't meet are having a bit of back hair, not dancing, not getting shannondoah's "reality" reference, and not knowing who Keyer Soze is.

If they have a box of snacks, and won't share. If someone won't share a cookie with me, I have to ponder what else they'll be tight fisted about. The flip side is that if someone offers me free food of their own volition, I am inclined to be friends for life. A free snack or a sweet drink is far and away the best and quickest way for me to drop my shields.
A second major no go: If they can't accept losing a friendly game, and pitch a fit. I think my major deal breakers formed in kindergarten or something

Oh, and I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books. Though hopefully I can be forgiven for that because they came out when I was in high school. Though I have seen all the movies and can talk a bit about it.
It's kind of interesting that being a geek is now considered socially desirable.

It's kind of interesting that being a geek is now considered socially desirable. You don't have to be a kid to read them. I read them and I'm well into middle age My DH is a computer geek. I like geeks!

Phoenix84 - I don't know how generally socially desirable it is to be a geek now, but I am a geek myself, so why would I ever want to date a guy I didn't have much in common with? I will also say that I am older than you (as I was in my 20s when the HP books started coming out), and being a geek definitely wasn't generally socially desirable when I was in high school. But since I found a good crowd of geeks to hang out with, I didn't care that much.

Jaguar - C lived at home with his mom when we started dating. And his mom lived with us for a little over a year quite some time later (that almost did kill our marriage, but that's because MIL was not a nice person.) So no, that's not on my list. (Which again, makes it feel really odd that I might be pickier than the rest of you.)
