So? All food places are inspected as well. They aren't clean, either. Again, all abortion clinics are inspected EVERY year & it's a surprise inspection. Doctor's offices that perform vasectomies & dentist's office that perform oral surgery & clinics that perform outpatient surgeries are inspected every THREE years & they are informed that their inspection is upcoming. They are also NOT required to meet surgical standards and will NOT be required to with this bill. ONLY abortion clinics are required to meet surgical standards. Texas already has above standard inspection policies in place for all abortion clinics. your final point is almost totally absent from the debate.

You don't get it at all, but by all means, let the wackadoos tell you what the deal is. Hasn't stopped you before, I don't expect that to change.

Hey, I'm pro choice and that choice includes abortion. In certain circumstances, I'd have one, too. But I'd want to make very sure the places are clean and sterile and that if something goes wrong, there's a back up plan. That doesn't make me anti-woman or anti-abortion. I don't see this as being anti-abortion but others do and that's fine. They are closer to the subject than I am. It is anti choice because the unnecessary regulations regarding the ambulatory surgical conditions they are trying to put in place will close most clinics. It's a very thinly veiled effort to close clinics.

They always do this- cloaking their true intentions behind a bullshit narrative and giving it a fancy name. It's a shame so many people can't see right through it.

All of that information came from the head of the Texas Health Inspector (or whatever dept it is that handles inspecting clinics & dr's offices) during testimony. She wasn't called to give information by anyone on the committee. She signed up to give this information. She got longer than 3 minutes because she was questioned thoroughly by Rep. Sylvester Turner. He seemed as shocked as I was by the higher standards that abortion clinics are ALREADY held to in Texas & questioned why Dr's & Dentists weren't held to the same inspection standard. No one had an answer for that one.

They're simply bringing an outpatient surgical procedure under the current law. They're really ending loopholes and special treatment of abortion in Texas in order to protect women and viable unborn children.

He's trying to cloud the issue with something that has NOTHING to do with this bill. I'll say it over and over and over and over again.... This bill is about closing down 37 of 42 clinics that provide health care to poor women. It will remove well woman checks, pap smears, pre-natal care, cancer screenings & low cost/free birth control for poor women of Texas. It holds these clinics to a higher standard than any Dr or Dentist who also performs outpatient surgery in their offices/clinics. It forces rural Texas women to travel thousands of miles for basic affordable health care. And to make sure no one forgets...Texas Republicans were willing to openly & in your face break the law while everyone watched & didn't care who saw it. They were willing to commit impeachable offenses to further their political & religious agenda. They are NOT interested in helping the poor women of Texas. The do NOT care about the poor women of Texas. They are pandering to a minority of primary voters & not the majority of voters in Texas. Only 1 in 5 voters are behind this bill. ONE IN FIVE. That is NOT representing their districts or the voters. It's riding the backs of poor women to further their own political careers.

They don't care about wasting taxpayer money on lawsuits either. At least in the NC bill they are stopping Sharia Law as well Anything to fire up the idiots- nothing like a Muslim scare.

This is from last year, but it totally demonstrates the disgusting mindset of these neanderthals. Amidst the latest wave of anti-abortion legislation, the 69-page Kansas bill may be the most controversial. If passed, women in Kansas will be forced to undergo a tubal ligation within 6-months of having an abortion. Tubal ligation or “tube tying”, is a surgical procedure that permanently prevents the patient from becoming pregnant in the future. The hotly debated measure was defended by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback: “Abortion is murder, but until we can change the [U.S.] Supreme Court’s decision on the matter it’s still legal. However, just because it is legal does not mean it should be used as it is today – as birth control. We are told that the decision to abort a child is the most difficult a woman will ever make. If she goes through with the abortion then she obviously believes that she is not mentally able to raise a child, and she is too selfish to give the child to a deserving family through adoption. If a woman is not taking responsibility to either care for the child or give him or her up for adoption, then she should not be trusted with that responsibility in the future.” Though the sterilization measure has ignited mass protests, Governor Brownback has refused to back down. When asked whether women should be punished for life for choosing to have an abortion, Brownback responded, “Well, her child was punished for life by her decision to kill him or her, I think it is only fair that we not reward her carelessness and irresponsibility.” Brownback further incited protestors when he spoke on the issue of abortion after rape or incest. According to Brownback, “The perpetrator’s crime was his action and he should pay for that. The woman’s action is to have the abortion. That was her decision, and she should pay for that.” Brownback has stated that he will sign the bill as soon as it reaches his desk. The Kansas bill is yet another in a string of anti-abortion laws spreading throughout the country. States are forcing women to have medically unnecessary ultrasounds, instituting new taxes on abortions, allowing doctors to withhold medical information that might lead to an abortion and even permitting doctors to lie to their patients about abortions causing breast cancer. Mississippi went so far as to institute a 270-day waiting period requirement before being able to have an abortion. Unfortunately, Brownback is optimistic that the bill will soon become law soon and he will be able to get back to his regular duties which include monitoring the comments of teenager girls on Twitter. www.freewoodpost.com/2012/05/18/kansas-bill-mandates-sterilization-for-post-abortion-women/

Dontcha know it's only outrageous when it's a dem, and it's 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. The good Governor of the state of Texas could be the sole owner of every surgical center in the country and he still wouldn't see a conflict of interest, and neither would his Bible thumping cronies. Disgusting little rat bastards. Perry will get his eventually, he's a slimy dude.

That's very sad. It would seem to me with their state being overrun by illegals, that should be their focus.

That's very sad. It would seem to me with their state being overrun by illegals, that should be their focus. Let's also not forget that Rick Perry supported House Bill 2012.... Tea Party favorite Debbie Riddle (I kid you not) (R-TX) introduced House Bill 2012 into the Texas State House, a bill that would jail folks who hire undocumented workers but would exempt anyone who hires “the help” for their homes, thereby effectively legalizing slavery for illegal immigrants. Yeah, you heard that right. All y’all indentured servants working for the rich but cheap white man? Y’all can stay. You might think this is crazy, but consider that this comes from “Terror Baby” lady. See? Now it all makes sense. www.politicususa.com/2011/03/03/texa-illegal-immigrants-servants.html

Well if "every sperm is sacred," as dj said (I think on pg 4?), then I have a modest proposal: let's pass a bill in Texas outlawing male masturbation. Yanno, sacredness and all. AND I have a second modest proposal: let's pass a bill closing all but 4 or 5 gun stores in Texas. No, you're wrong, we're NOT trying to end-round your Second Amendment rights, we're just trying to make the State safer for everyone, doncha know?

A poem that was read today in the hearings: If My Vagina Was A Gun By Katie Heim If my vagina was a gun, you would stand for its rights. You would ride on a bus and fight all the fights. If my vagina was a gun, you would treat it with care. You wouldn’t spill all its secrets, because, well, why go there? If my vagina was a gun you’d say what it holds is private. From cold dead hands we could pry; you surely would riot. If my vagina was a gun its rights would all be protected. No matter the body count or the children affected. If my vagina was a gun I could bypass security. Concealed carry laws would ensure I had purity. If my vagina was a gun, I wouldn’t have to beg you. I could hunt this great land and do all the things that men do. But my vagina’s not a gun. It’s a mightier thing. With a voice that rings true, making lawmaker’s ears ring. Vaginas aren’t delicate, they are muscular, magic. So stop messing with mine, with legislation that’s tragic. My vagina is here to demand from the source; listen to the voices of thousands or feel their full force. jessicawluther.com/2013/07/08/if-my-vagina-was-a-gun-by-katie-heim/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
