i was watching SB5 on the floor last night on cctv live (i know, wonky right), and i am not sure of two things:
1) if the bill was even voted on @ midnight 2) if the vote was completed before midnight
i am nearly positive that the vote was not completed before midnight. my clock said 12:01AM when it was completed. i am pretty sure that they were voting on a motion to close the filibuster questioning (on the "third strike") and NOT voting on SB5 in that last vote.
note: if the bill did NOT pass before midnight, it can't go into affect, as the special session was closed. Perry would have to create another special session to take that vote.
it is just a matter of time. the democrats don't have the votes to stop it. but it was a interesting and dramatic day in Austin. it will be interesting to see how this will all play out in the morning.
edit: i forgot to mention the most important point: the votes followed an 12 hour standing filibuster by Wendy Davis. Texas rules don't even allow for a bathroom break. figure that one out.

dj, I was reading some coverage on this filibuster that said the record for a filibuster in TX went 43 hours. NNP - the vote was taken, but the roll call apparently didn't happen before the midnight close of special session so it didn't count.

i concur- and this is precisely what i saw. a cheer went up at midnight, and the vote was not complete. a bill is not law unless it is signed by the senate president, which did not occur until 12:03AM.
it was fun to watch. it is a phyrric (sic) victory, however. this bill will pass.

You know - it makes me really wonder how much cr*p has been pulled (and gotten away with) by politicians (voting after midnight and other irregularities) in an era before intense media scrutiny (live streaming video, FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc).

You'd probably have to change a diaper in 12 hours. If you watch your fluid intake, a Foley will handle ya for the day.

I watched the live feed from the Capitol & when they cut that, I found a live stream coming from inside the building/in the crowd gathered. It was AMAZING to watch. It was unbelievable to see the Texas GOP break the law while everyone watched online. It was scary to realize they knew everyone was watching, but thought they could get by with it. Then we all watched as the bill was recorded as voted on 6/26 NOT 6/25 & then watch the date be CHANGED online! Around 4 am EST (3am CST) it was announced finally that the bill was voted on at 12:03 and therefore COULD NOT be signed.
One woman, Wendy Davis, stood up for EVERY woman in Texas & (IMO) every woman around the country. She couldn't drink water, eat, sit down, pee, or even lean against the desk for almost 13 hours as she spoke.
When word finally came down that the bill was dead, the crowd broke out into "The Eyes of Texas" and never have the words been more true....
The Eyes of Texas are upon you...you cannot get away...do no think you can escape them...all the live long days....
The Texas GOP broke the law & committed verified, documented impeachable offenses. And wouldn't have cared who knew had it not been for the Texas Democrats who fought this bill so hard all day & all night.
THANK YOU WENDY DAVIS! #StandWithWendy

What I read was no abortions after 5 months. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

It would have closed every abortion clinic in Texas by requiring every clinic to meet surgical requirements. It was WAY more than just an after 20 week ban.

Is meeting surgical standards wrong? I'd want a place to be clean and sterile if it were me.

It would have closed every clinic & robbed poor Texas women of health care. Mammograms, pap smears, pre-natal care, cancer screening, etc.
And it should NEVER be forgotten that the Texas GOP BROKE THE LAW & didn't care that everyone was watching as they did it.

Governor Perry has now called for a new special session to vote on the abortion bill. linkOh, of course he has. This Neanderthal won't stop until he can control the reproductive rights of all TX women. The TX GOP wants a government so small, it can fit in your uterus. I don't understand why he keeps getting elected. I know TX is a red state and all, but this guy is a special breed of stupid. Then again, this is the state that brought you W, so I'm not sure why I'm surprised. I'll vote against him (again) in November 2014.

I watched all of it & when they cut the live feed on the Senate floor, I found another live Ustream from outside in the rotunda in the crowds. I got to see Cecile Richards speak to them & eventually (around 4:30 am EST) got to see Wendy Davis speak & thank the crowd. At one point, I saw DPS arresting people on the upper floors & several times, DPS tried to surround those inside the building, but backed down. Anyone who got too close to a door ended up on the outside, locked out by DPS. I saw & cried when the crowd began to sing The Eyes of Texas (even tho I'm an A&M fan). I went from being ashamed to be from Texas because of the morons, to proud to be from Texas because of the crowd & the Dem Senators.

If I still lived in Texas, I would absolutely go to Austin next week for this bullshit "special screw every woman over" session Rick the Dick Perry has called for.
I'm so angry right now. Did these idiots NOT hear the people last night? Did they really just call voters expressing their views on their rights "terrorists"? What I want to spew right now is so laced with 4 letter words that I'd get a vacation from here. The Texas GOP will NOT get away with this. They will not make women 2nd class citizens without the right to control their own reproduction.
Stop raping our rights! No means NO!
You aren't my doctor, get the hell out of my uterus!

I am going to call bullshit on this: I don't think that other dick possessing human beings should be telling me what I should or shouldn't do with my dick. I don't see where it is right for another person who happens to have a uterus to tell you what you should do with your uterus.

It scares the crap out of me that my husband wants to retire in this state. He is looking at job opportunities and not looking at the political landscape. (He is Pro-Choice by the way). I am not looking forward to it at all and hope that we can decide on a different state to retire in.
