I'm listening to an audio book. H. keeps talking. Then the TV is up. I thought I paused it. Nope. It kept playing in my ear bud. Annoyed.

A self-esteem ding. I heard one of the fellow tennis players say I had to have the last word so let her.
I decided to start tracking conversations to see if this happens across different social settings or just the tennis group. So far, I have 7 conversations with different people, different settings, where I did not have the last word. This tracking has helped me feel better. I realize February is a month of more tender feelings than usual because so much happened in the past.

Aw, just found out we lost one of our oldie but goody swimmers. Eighty-four years young, he was. A very nice man; I saw him at a lot of meets. Very competitive at his age, but always had fun first and foremost. I understand he was in good shape until the end, and the end was swift and hospice was there for him. We will miss you, Carl. May Heaven's pool temperature be perfect, the lane lines straight, and the chlorine level just right.

My friend just roared with laughter about how direct this was. We were invited to friends for martinis with the hours 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. No food provided so bring your own. A lot of food brought. Everyone was talking having a good time. Having drinks. I picked up a martini glass from the floor and set it on the table. I showed the hostess. She got a rag and started rubbing like crazy where I placed the glass. It did not have any moisture on the bottom of it. If it spilled on the tile floor, it would have been worse with so many guest milling around..
A few minutes before 6:00 p.m., Hostess brings my tray of food covered in aluminum foil saying thanks for coming, the party is over. My friend just went ballistic with laughter about how direct it was. His comment laughing, thanks for coming, good bye. LOL. I was standing there with my food in hand waiting for my H. when she comes back and says did you bring such and such wine so I could take it home. Nope. I didn't bring it. Friend was still laughing when he went to retrieve the food he brought.

Another odd thing. My neighbors have frequent overnight company. Sometimes for longer than they expect. He has adopted the habit of giving then a roll of toilet paper telling them the visit is over when the toilet paper runs out. LOL.

OK, neighbor. You keep allowing your tree trimmers to stuff in my yard? You will get it back on your lawn before the butt-crack of dawn one morning this week. Oh, and those "new" rules about not putting out yard waste until Wednesday afternoon (our pickup is Thursdays) don't apply to you, either, I guess. It is Sunday, and there is a six -foot by 10-foot pile at the end of your driveway, spilling onto mine. My DH is disabled, and he still manages to wait until Wednesday. Too much for you to bother with, eh?

More on Prima Donna from a couple posts up. At tennis drills, she skoots in and says I take the last ball. She also pushes in to take the first ball. A couple days later, during club play time, the teaching coach comes to play with us. He took the court, I said I'd go when no one else went on with him. We rotate clockwise when we have more than 4 people. We had two courts and 4 extras. One game ,the coach rotated to the other side. When it was my turn again to rotate, prima donna jumps in and says I want to play because I have to leave. She didn't leave but stayed for the next rotation. IDK if someone said something to her. Background annoyances are her H. is president of the tennis club. She asked to be assistant tournament director. Okay, fine. The annoyance is the actual tournament director has a big job of making the pairings, posting those along with when do I play list. Posting scores during the tournament. Tournament director goes to the tournaments staying all day start to finish whether on our courts or away. She fills in last minute for those who can't play for some reason. Mr. Prez and Asst. Tournament director show up just for their two matches then leave. Prima complains about who she was paired with every time. We do have a couple of 80 year olds that are capable of wining their match, which did happen even with Prima. Prima seldom wins. What is expected. BODs attendance, being present start to finish, filling in for the tournament director, if needed. Posting scores and addressing concerns of players. A dig was hearing her tell the T.D. that she will help with every tournament next year. Another, I was warming up with self-feeding when those two come on the court I'm on with Prima announcing she and H. were doing such and such drill to warm up. I said fine, I'll move to the empty court next to the one I was on. Suddenly, come warm up with us. I just said I have my own drill I'm working on.
I usually delete these complaints but posting here is like talking to a friend.

Sounds as though she has a version of "Pick Me!" That sounds very tiring.

I do think someone said something as a lot more people showed up for drills last night. Probably to check it out!

Dear friend,
While I am sure that you were a good tenant and your former landlord gave you a good reference when you moved out, that was 30 years ago. Even if the same guy still owns that apartment complex, he is not going to let you move in without paying a deposit and the first month’s rent.
signed, Seriously?
