Sometimes, it's good to be wrong. I met my friend and his daughter for breakfast last Sunday, after a race. Daughter is 17, and of course, you know kids and devices, right? She had a small laptop with her. No big deal; I figured it was more interesting than listening to her dad and I talk. Nope, I was wrong. Turns out that it's her school laptop, and her senior pictures are on it, and she wanted me to see them. And they are fabulous. Definitely not like the pictures we did back in the day. Now it's a whole package deal, with makeup, stylist, wardrobe changes, and if you pay extra, photos off-site and with family. She did a few with her dad. I told her I would be honored to have some of the pictures and she sent them to me. Such a good kid. And a great dad. (He was fine with my getting those pictures, BTW). I also got an invite to graduation.

Too bad for the server/cashier. I won't tip on the gift cards I bought from your restaurant. I'll tip as I use them.

I have a small notebook for website passwords Many cross outs due to needed changes in passwords Me, too. It's currently lost I know this is dangerous but I print out a list. I got caught once on vacation and under stress, I couldn't remember the password for my bank account to pay a credit card bill. An expensive mistake with interest charge.

If it was first snd only time you missed paying on time, call and ask forgiveness. CC company will remove the charge

Sis,
I'm happy to watch your kids overnights as often as you'll let me have them. But then pls don't point out to 6 yo that she's going to miss you and bedtime and that she can call you if she's crying. One guess what happens then.
It's kinda the same thing as when you talk about how picky she is about eating in front of her and then she refuses to eat anything except hot dogs. Meanwhile, I don't have hot dogs so she ate her own mini pizza, strawberries, and a glass of milk.
Frustrated aunt

I saw a thread went rapidly from two pages to six. Then I saw who the last poster was, and realized that people are probably trying to talk facts and reason to someone who doesn't care about either.

Arghhhhhhhh. Its the annual shake down for renter's insurance from the portal we now have to use to pay our rent. I don't need $100,000 worth of liability insurance for my unit. I'll look up what I have, but I've had renter's insurance for the more than a decade I have been here. I know last year I decided not to jump through the hoops and upload proof that I was insured after talking to mangement actually on site. Things have changed considerably since last year. As renters we are already getting nicked with a $2.49 processing fee by the portal per rent payment. It did not exist the first year so more out of pocket with no additional services. If someone enrolls me in this unneeded insurance for more money than I pay, there will be problems for them. I think these mgmt portals can be useful, but they also exist to suck money out of renter's pockets to keep going. Of course all insurance agencies are working overtime between 12/28 and the beginning of the year so I can put my policy up there for its stupid checkbox. My rental does not run from Jan to Dec. Its more summer to summer, so this is even more annoying as its car hoops time not silly poor portal wants to pick my pocket time. Rant over ... for now.

Dear sis,
I can't get over how much you like to talk about yourself. I hosted extended fam xmas here and barely got two words in with our aunts. Just once I'd like to have an actual give and take conversation instead of your me, me, me crap.
The podcast I heard about emotionally immature people really had you pegged.
No one wants to hear multiple minutes about how you hated your old job - that you only had since Sept working as a hs lunch lady.
And no one wants to hear about how you're dreading your new job bc it's work from home so you'll have no one to talk to or how hard the HR intake paperwork is, what with health insurance options, etc. You know grown up stuff.
I gave up and had to leave the room when you started whining on learning new software like excel and teams and how hard it will be.
And don't even get me started on your husband monopolizing the other half of the table conversation with his 'inventions'. He's not the first to make a robot lawn mower and now he's on to 3d printing 7 foot long remote control boats. And talking about spending your family's limited funds on patents. FFS.
Annoyed big sis

General rant-
Why can't funded people pull their heads into RL and realize underfunded life is different than funded life? When you work a bottom tier job there is no storage for your stuff generally. You do not have a desk you are locking things into. If you are very lucky your workplace might have lockers you can use ... if they aren't already in use or locked. So everything you need for the day comes with you. There and back. And if you are walking or using the bus, every piece of weight might matter to you.
There might be rich or at least funded folks riding the bus in cities with their Kindle and cute water bottles, but that's not how the underfunded roll. They don't have a car waiting for them at the end of the bus commute nor a well appointed place to live where they can just order in food instead of making it if the commute took twice as long to get home.
Just because a doctor can sail into a facility to do rounds with a water bottle, a pen and perhaps their phone does not make their life comparable to the underfunded person taking the bus into the facility to hopefully make at least minimum wage. They'll have to bring enough to eat and drink during the day and hope no one takes it either.
Sigh. At least when I was funded I knew I was ignorant of how the underfunded lived. I would have never had the gall to tell an underfunded soul how to live their life simply just because I knew one little tiny piece. If you don't know most, you really do not know enough to make useful and actually helpful comments versus smug putdowns.
Lastly, every politician seems to fail at a food stamp challenge because they think like funded people and not like people who would actually need to survive on foodstamps. Never it seems do they buy what they would like to eat and see how well they might do. No, to a person they go out and buy what they think is proper poor underfunded people food. At the end of the challenge they donate almost everything they bought, because they learned nothing. It never occurs to them to adapt how they eat to a food stamp budget and what that might look like. Will they run out of money by week two or will they actually make it to week three. Its always amazing if any of the politicians even make all their meals from the foodstamp challenge for even a week. If you are thinking how do those people do it, you are probably doing it wrong. If you think well I would do this ... congratulations I suppose ... its not you on the current underfunded journey now is it? What entitles your ass to spend my money your way? What?!

general rant - why can't people stop making up words to defend their life choices? there are ways to find income to accommodate one's lifestyle choices that involve finding different or additional work in order to afford the choices one makes, including where to live and how to transport oneself in order to function.
do you earn a paycheck? yes? then you are funded. please stop creating a victim persona, because it's insulting to those who actually are victims of things like domestic violence, partner abuse, and a variety of other things. the only thing you are a victim of is your own choices and refusal to pull your head out of the sand and fix it.

Liability isn't a coverage for your things or your unit. It's to cover if someone sues you for something that happens at your place, usually an injury, but there can be other instances. If someone should sue you, $100,000 doesn’t really go very far. I personally carry $300,000 just in case.

And does that renters insurance also cover you if there is a situation in your unit (like your space heater starts a fire) and damages parts of the building outside your unit? At a condo complex where I lived most recently, there was a building with four units. A fire began in the only unit occupied by tenants. The insurance companies for the owner-occupied units, the tenants' insurance company, and the HOA's insurance got into a major fight over liability and there was also a potential products liability issue with the manufacturer of a gas grill. It was a mess. I moved before it was straightened out but they were saying the HOA dues were likely to increase significantly.

Dear General Ranter,
Many well-meaning posters have straddled the line between barely making ends meet and being able to pay the bills. They don't become oblivious to everyday struggles simply because they were able to improve their lot in life.
Making obvious, reasonable suggestions to someone who posts about the difficulties in life is commonplace here on the boards. Many people rant. If you don't think the suggestions you get are helpful, don't shoot the messenger. Maybe realize your posts have gone beyond rants and have turned into senseless whining that lacks any apparent desire to take even small steps to ease some of the hardships.
You seem to think the cluelessness goes one way. I really don't think you would care to hear about the hardships many of us have faced. Maybe we walked a mile in those shoes, but did manage to better our circumstances by being open-minded about obvious, reasonable suggestions that, in time, made a difference. Maybe that's what we wish for you too. Hence, the suggestions. I'm sorry you choose to reject them out of hand and attack those who are trying to help.

I have walked those shoes. I managed to pull myself up by finding a 2nd job to supplement my income and basically going on the cash basis for everything. At that point, I never though I would own a house again. I thought I had totally thrown my life away. Did it happen overnight? No, it took years to get through it but I did and I am proud of myself for actually doing it.

General rant,
Rant on disappointment on job was racist.
2nd rant on who was hired blames racism on part of manager.
Ageism is probably true, but your first response was racist, as is the second.
Why would an employer promote someone who has an attendance problem. 99% of employers would not.

OMG I am so happy someone finally said it because I've been trying REAL hard to be a good girl and not point out the obvious. Ditto. I appreciate that in this case the use of sick time is legit, but when you are out of work for a week or two at time, a few times a year, and have difficulty getting FMLA paperwork done on time (for whatever reason), you are not going to be on the fast track for advancement. Sorry to say, the employer wants to see your butt in a seat. If you're legitimately ill, they may not terminate you for absenteeism, but you will likely not advance with the organization as you might hope. The same can be said for being tied to a bus schedule with weather and traffic delays. If, more than very occasionally, the bus makes you late for work, that also does not bode well for advancement.

I've had a feeling the FMLA paperwork is an issue because it's not an actual qualifying medical situation.

Dear friend, So happy for you and your daughter and your upcoming cruise. The two of you deserve it. Her for being a great kid and you for being best dad ever. And I was very heartbroken for you when you told me why your ex-wife deserted you and her then-little daughter, whom you have raised amazingly well. The idea that someone would cruelly hurt you with the worst insults in reference to your manhood like that outrages me. You helped with so much, accepted her into your home when she was pregnant with nowhere to go, and put your name on that child's birth certificate and loved her better than her bio dad could (he was never in the picture). You are very much a real man, not that she could have known it. She's gone through more men than pairs of socks. She takes and uses and never stays around long enough to know that sex and love are very different in a good, solid, long-term relationship. You have your daughter out of that mess, and for that, I am so proud of you. I wish I could change the pain you went through to get her, though.

Do I attract people who like to verbally abuse? Yes. The latest. The tennis group hosted the lunch for the tournament. This one woman wanted me to lead which I deferred to my H. as he's done a lot of tournament food. The next Monday, this woman comes on court saying, oh the queen of the kitchen is here. I didn't say anything but one of the women who helps manage these interpersonal snips did as she was at the meeting where she wanted me to take the lead.
I'm glad she nipped this in the bud. No one was there for me when the little snips at the courts up north turned vicious. I ended up playing with the men. Then the women started filthy gossip to the point the abused adult resource center took notice of them. I'm at my winter home so I have no idea what is happening now.

Dear COO
So frustrated. You pushed for new software to be used when processing Accounts Payable. IMHO it was rolled out without adequate testing. There are glitches. The owner received a list of invoices seriously past due. He had the office manager pay the larger past due invoices with a credit card which cannot be processed thru the new system. You then yelled at my boss and the office manager. After your discussion with the owner & office manager the office manager was extremely frustrated almost to the point of tears.
So tired of you bullying.

DH - we have a week's worth of leftovers so when I told you and dd15 to pick something already made in the fridge and that freezer foods are off limits for lunch, you probably shouldn't have eaten cereal. So tired of wasting food abd throwing it away.
DD11 - I'm happy to help you with math hw, but pls get it thru your head that math involves using paper. Just because your teachers uses worksheets instead of the textbook, doesn't mean that you don't need a piece of paper to write out the algebra problem and your steps to solve it. Why must you argue with me about that every time?!

Dear Mom,
I wish you would stop telling everyone that I haven't called for over a year. We spoke just last week, and every week before then. I know it's not your fault ☹️but it's starting to get tedious. Your friends think I don't care, but I really do....
