Gotta say even if you are pissed about your kids doing it- and I admit I am glad I don't have a daughter- the fact that one decides to use 'free condoms' or a birth control emergency pill is at least evidence of responsibility. You can argue all day that responsible teens would not have sex in the first place and I will argue that tossing a hungry person in the middle of a dinner buffet will lead to eating regardless of what the rules happen to be. We are talking 15 here right? That's prime time- only reason it took me to 16 was a lack of opportunity- and I would have gladly gave it up earlier for at least three teachers in that time- 7th grade to 10th.  That's another subject entirely though. How is this not a positive? Some young woman decides she is not ready to be a mother and takes action. I am not getting the backlash here. |

Imagine a world where all people remained "chaste" unless married. Where all brides are virgins, and where sexual congress is limited to The Missionary Position, and it is only performed for procreational purposes (i.e., absolutely NO "recreational" sex). Unmarried individuals would have to be totally celibate. That's what some people demand... and, if human History is any indication, it's a very unrealistic demand. Childishly unrealistic. not if you are a radical Islamist. if you are a radical Islamist, it is a goal worthy of pursuit.  You know, if he had added in the idea that women had no sexual desires of their own and existed only to serve the sexual desires of men, it would sound suspiciously like what was publicly "acceptable" in pre-Kinsey United States.... Too bad all those pesky real people screwed up the "ideal."  No pun intended...really! |

If either of my daughters came to me and asked to be put on the pill I would do it in a heartbeat. They both know it. I have been very open and honest with them about sex. I have told them that I think that they should wait to be sexually active, but I also remember what it was like to be a teen. I have no problem putting my girls on the pill. I also have no problem with supplying both my boys AND my girls with condoms. I don't want ANY of them to have babies before they are ready. I also would be the mom that drove my daughters for a Plan B pill if she made a mistake. Yes, I would also take her to have an abortion if she did get pregnant and that is what she wanted to do.
I am sure there are many that have issue with my way of parenting. I don't care. They are my kids. They know that they can come talk to me about anything.

I am very glad that I grow up in A country that believed in " treat your body with the most care". Maybe I am very old school in that regard but I am so glad that our Son knows the difference in A lady and A lady not worthy of him. And I really think your life's made of what kind of people you are willing to associate. |

I admit I am glad I don't have a daughter- the fact that one decides to use 'free condoms' or a birth control emergency pill is at least evidence of responsibility. I am very glad that you don't have a Daughter. If you did you might think otherwise. But who knows...... I guess these days the very concept of mind and body as a whole is out the window. I am very glad that I grow up in A country that believed in " treat your body with the most care". Maybe I am very old school in that regard but I am so glad that our Son knows the difference in A lady and A lady not worthy of him. And I really think your life's made of what kind of people you are willing to associate. So do you teach your SON that A gentleman keeps his penis in his pants and if he doesn't then he is not worthy of A lady? |

I don't know the answer so I'm asking the question: can a 15-year-old girl, in a private visit with her physician, ask the doctor for a prescription for birth control pills without her parents being informed by the doctor she has been given the prescription?

I think it might vary by state? As far as age you can purchase. I would guess a doctor has to keep confidentiality, but doesn't have to agree to write a script.

Many parents, especially fathers, quietly give their sons high fives for 'scoring' before marriage while chastising their daughters for the same. Best the sons get some experience before marriage and sow their oats. These good sons have to get that experience with someone's daughter. Boys good-girls bad. |

I don't know about now, but when I was 16 I was able to get the pill without my parents' permission. My mother was "old school" and refused to put me on the pill because she said that gave me permission to have sex. A friend's mother took me in and the DR. gave me the pill. My mom taught abstinence only and if you had sex you were a whore that would burn in hell. Oh you also weren't allowed to touch your own private parts because that was dirty too and you would be punished by God.  Mom never mentioned the fact that she wasn't a virgin when she got married. I guess it didn't apply to her. I am not naive enought to think that my kids will all wait until marriage. Heck, I don't want them to wait until marriage. I can't imagine only having sex with 1 person my entire life! I guess that means I am not a lady. Whatever. Ok I am out. I should not ever click on these threads. |
