I got a bargain today at Walmart. I paid $.11 for 2 1/3 lb. bananas, 2 lbs. organic carrots and 4 D. Hines frosting packets at Walmart. I used two $.75 IPQ, 4 $1.00 IPQs and pricematched bananas @ $.29 lb. at Aldi. I got $.64 overage for the D.H. packs. Along with that, I got a loaf of bread, 4 lbs. naval oranges, hotdog buns, 2 bags potting soil, 2 packs lettuce seeds and a top on clearance for $1.00. My total was $8.75. If Walmart ever stops pricematching, I'm screwed. When I can't travel to Kroger, Aldis or Meijer, I have to get my produce, bread and milk at Wally's.

I'm going to do a price match at Walmart this week. Prego is BOGO at Safeway and my Walmart will price match the BOGO but at the Walmart price which is always less than the regular Safeway price. I'll be using $.75/2 coupons on top of the price match so I'm thinking I'll get it for less than $1/jar.
BOGOs are really the only thing that I price match because Walmart is farther away than the grocery stores, but if I can get (10) jars at a much cheaper price and run some other errands on that end of town at the same time, it works out pretty well for me.

LOL So I entered New Threads and it brought me here...there is a Grocery Challenge Thread (what's the prize and what are the criteria...there is a winner isn't there, or I'm not playing). Is this anything like extreme cuponers. Just kidding and pulling your shop carts...it is always intelligent to shop wisely. But remember, wisely does not mean substituting good healthy items for junk...that would not be wise. "And there is a rough up in Isle 5, two ladies are having words about..." May the smartest shopper win!

I'm jealous, my Walmart will only price match BOGO if there is a price in the ad. Actually, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll continue to do it. Safeway had Heinz 57 Sauce BOGO a couple of months ago (no price in the ad), but the price at Safeway was $6.49/bottle, plus they won't let you use a coupon on the one that's free, so I would have paid $2.75/bottle. I had never tried price matching at Walmart and had no clue what they'd do, but they just rang them up at $3.92 and $0. I was afraid maybe the register wouldn't take the second coupon, but it did!! With the BOGO and using (2) $1/1 coupons, I paid $.96/bottle. We use it in a steak marinade recipe and the "best if used by" date was 9/28/15, so I stockpiled (12) bottles in (3) transactions with three different cashiers, so I guess that's the policy (for now) at my Walmart. I haven't tried it again since then, so we'll see what happens. Like anything else with coupons, I don't expect that they'll do it forever.

DH and I ate out tonight out of town and was near a super Walmart. I went in to see if they had the little Almay eye makeup removers for $1.14 and they had 4 so I got them and 4 bottles of Hunts ketchup and a box of salt. I used two $5/2 IPQ for Almay and received $.70 back. We also saved $28.55 in gas using our fuel points from Kroger.

Headed to DD2 today for grandson1's bday. Know gas is about 0.12-0.15/gal cheaper there so will gass up out there. However, savings is negated by the 80+mi rt drive. Shouln't complain too mush as we have been mostly getting together at DD1's place. She is pretty much in the middle both time traveling & mileage wise.

Well, I HOPE I never see the day that I have to rely on WalMart for deals, cuz I'd starve first...LOL. You couldn't pay me enough to shop there... Luckily for me, I am still finding plenty of deals on food at my local grocery stores.

Hmmm....for some reason, the programming won't let me use the quote button. Wow, you must have had some really bad experiences there. I have to admit, it's not my favorite place to shop. I avoid it when I can, but the OOP I spent on (12) bottles at Walmart would have only gotten me (4) bottles at Safeway. For a difference like that, I'll bite the bullet.

No peelies but free Clear shampoo on three cards. This is good because DH saw an ad and has been wanting to try it. I got the ones with 25% extra in them too. Also got 4 Altoids mints and used a quarterly ECB that came out of the red machine and used a GC for the tax. Nice day at CVS, not too complicated!

Today I am cleaning the oranges, tangerines, and blood oranges my auntie gave me from her organic garden. I'm about to put the celery leaves in the dehydrator. The celery was about 4 feet tall including the leaves--amazing!
Dancin I was up your way last weekend. We went to Artichokeville and bought 12/$1 and then a farm stand in the beach town near there with the twin towers of electricity or whatever they are. Got some less expensive produce there. Yum! I'll be dealing with a lot of that tomorrow. Want to freeze it before it all goes bad.

Heinz beef gravy jars were 75%off in CVS @ 49¢ each. I got the last 4. Then planters nuts were @ $2 ish for the tub so I got 3 tubs for snacking on. They were the green tub with fruit and nuts inside. Pretty good deals I wasn't expecting. I also got just 2 bottles of the clear shampoo as I have lost my other cards by the looks of it. So just a couple of things but it all helps out. I picked up a couple of meat deals in price rite. Turkey breast is on sale there and I froze two large ones, about 10 lbs each.

constanz I, too, dislike shopping at Walmart. If I go between 8 am and 10 pm I have to park at the other side of the strip mall. Their prices can generally be found comparable at other stores IF you watch over a few weeks (in spite of their current tv ads) & are willing to shop a couple stores. I have bought several items for the grands via the web site w/store pick up in the last 3 months.
My current Walmart stores are just plain stores. My feelings may change when we get a Super store about next spring, especially since a local chain is also opening a store VERY near this new Walmart. I would expect prices to be SUPER at least the first few months.

I would rather shop at Kroger or Meijer myself, but they are not close enough by to pop in and out, so I'm left with Walmart. I rarely have a cart full so I can go to the express lane and get out quickly. Today by price matching, I got a red pepper, head of lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli and 2 bags of carrots for $3.74. I'm always on the lookout for good buys on produce and they will ad match Aldis. The produce section is in the front of the store and I'm usually in and out within 10 minutes.

Freesalsa, What do you do with the celery leaves? Thanks Saveinla, we keep them in a ziplock bag and then put them in soup. Ch i ck en noodle is especially good with it but we've been making another soup with carrots, carrot tops, quinoa, and potatoes and adding the leaves to it. You're only supposed to use organic celery leaves or carrot tops, not sure why. I suppose you could put them in a bloody mary in the blender too, or anything you would normally use celery in.

Today I was out walking in my neighborhood and I found two boxes of fruit left out for the taking. One of oranges from someone's tree and one of lemons. I took two pieces of each fruit home to see if they were any good (they were.) I went back tonight with some bags to get more but the oranges were already gone. But I got a plastic shopping bag full of lemons. The green garbage bins in front of this house were overflowing with lemon tree branches with lemons still on them. Then there was a box on the side of picked lemons. I only took almost half of them. I hate to see good food go to waste. If no one else takes them they'll just end up in the landfill. Tomorrow I go pick up my free fruit in the morning and if the box is still there maybe I'll take the rest to work. Someone can always use a lemon. We have so much citrus to juice and freeze right now, between this and what my aunt gave me and the fruit of the month club we got for Christmas from DH's sister. And I can only eat the lemons. DH will have his fill of oranges, tangerines and grapefruit. I can't wait to make lemonade.

Wow, no wonder people can't afford to eat!!
I went to buy my Fuji apples yesterday @ $.44/lb. I bought (20); the average cost was $.23 per apple. Right next to the Fujis were red delicious @ $1.59/lb. At that price, the average cost for my apples would have been $.86/ea.!!
I bought them at an ethnic market and there are two of them in town. I plan to hit them both up and stockpile (40-60) more either today or tomorrow. If kept in the refrigerator, they will be firm and crunchy for over a month. Between DH and I, we'll eat at least (2-3) a day.
I haven't seen Fujis for this low in ages.

I haven't seen Fujis for this low in ages. The problem I have is not only the price. Apples here are @ $1.99 lb. and each one is huge. One apple is close to a lb. by itself. I always complain to the produce managers but they say there's nothing they can do. I don't buy that story. I've taken to buying apples in the 3 lb. bags. You have to be careful and look at each one because sometimes they are bruised. I just bought a 3 lb. bag of Fuji's at Grocery Outlet for $1.99. The apples were the right small size for a snack. Got 11 in the bag so about .18 per apple. I like Fujis, but Granny's are my favorite. Raley's has the 3 lb. bag for $3.99 so that's where I go if Grocery Outlet doesn't have any. I planted a Granny Smith tree a year ago so, hopefully, I will not have this problem in the near future!

Almost forgot: Grocery Outlet also has 1 lb. of strawberries for .99! And, if you like Kettle Chips, they are BOGOF. Price is $1.99 so less than $1 ea for 2 bags. Sale ends tomorrow.

These must be regional. I looked and I didn't get them. This seems to be happening to me a lot - no $1/1 Sargento (that you were so kind to send me), no $.75/2 Prego. I seem to be living in the LOCC again.
