My local VONS has a printer with their Just4U computer so now I just load the coupons at home and go into the store and print the list before I shop.

constanz No, NOT the Cherrios version - bought the Kelloggs Crunchy Nut Roasted Nut & Honey O's.
My local Dominicks also has a J4U computer & printer BUT 1) It was down last time I was there 2) I do NOT have the time to waste on a computer while I am on a multi stop (usually 6-10 stop) shopping trip
PITA but I KNOW someone else will run similar deals in a week or 3. Advantage stockpile.

Wow, no wonder people can't afford to eat!! I went to buy my Fuji apples yesterday @ $.44/lb. I bought (20); the average cost was $.23 per apple. Right next to the Fujis were red delicious @ $1.59/lb. At that price, the average cost for my apples would have been $.86/ea.!! I bought them at an ethnic market and there are two of them in town. I plan to hit them both up and stockpile (40-60) more either today or tomorrow. If kept in the refrigerator, they will be firm and crunchy for over a month. Between DH and I, we'll eat at least (2-3) a day. I haven't seen Fujis for this low in ages. Yay!!!! Fujis make great juice too, if you have a juicer. You can also dry them in the oven and make and freeze applesauce. I know they're not the standard applesauce apple but they work just fine in my opinion--chunky or you can put it in the blender for smooth.

Freesalsa, You may have already done this, but Sprouts has a deal until today on the Glen Muir organic canned tomatoes 1.5 each and they have 3$ off any 5 glen muir products right next to the display. The Q is valid until 4/17, but the sale price is not. Hopefully they will have a sale before the coupon expires. Yup! Sure did. Thanks for checking though!

Stopped in at Jons this week to grab some cheap spices. I found organic butter marked down. Knorr beef bullion (sp?) cubes $.79 in the "Hispanic Foods" aisle Goya seasoning packet $1.59 Whole Foods 365 organic butter markdown $2.97, reg $5-6 each. (Don't ask me why Jons had WF products. The checker didn't know either, she asked me where I found them since she'd seen a lot of people buying them.) Sprouts$.88 lb. asparagus 5 lb. bag organic carrots $2.99 Organic tofu $1.50- $1 store Q = 50 c each. I shared a Q with a lady there and told her there were more on the web site. Didn't buy any other veggies. We still have potatoes, sweet potatoes, cabbage, spaghetti squash, EB Farms spinach and romaine, and a chayote squash from previous weeks. I'm sitting on the couch drinking homemade lemonade from my neighbor's lemons. Yum! Thinking about adding some vodka to it.... Happy Saturday!!!

I'm beginning to wonder just how cheap straawberries will get this year. Most of the independent markets have had them for $1/lb. My fav fruit/veg market has had them for 0.59/lb last week and this week.
If I recall correctly real strawberry season is not until about mid-May thru June.

I guess that's a good thing. A sliced Fuji with muenster cheese is heavenly.

Went to Safeway yesterday and stockpiled Cracker Barrel cheese @ $.99/8 oz. after using $1/1 Qs. I got the extra sharp cheddar variety. The best if used by date is not until Oct. The packages that I got have $1/1 peelies on them, but I doubt I'll see this deal again. That seems to be the story of what I do when it comes to stockpiling some products. The Sargento Ultra Thin Slices are $1.44/pkg. after $1 coupon until 4/23. I'm stockpiling them like crazy. The price is low ($2.44/pkg.) and the coupon is high ($1/1) because it is a new product. This is likely to be the only time I'll ever buy them. I've done the same thing with sooo many products over the years - the Smart Balance butter, the Philly singles, the Kraft Cheese and Crackers to Go, etc. I love it when manufacturer's try to gain market share for a new product.

HOUND ALERT - JUST 4 YOU QUESTIONA thought just occurred to me. The Cracker Barrel Cheese says Limit of 4, but it doesn't say "one time". Does that mean that I can use the peelies and get (4) more at the J4U price in a separate transaction? TIA

I made a produce run at Walmart today and figured out how much I saved price matching. I bought 2 bags carrots, 1 red pepper, 2 heads lettuce, 1 pkg. radishes, 1 pkg. grape tomatoes, 1 celery 2 sweet onions, 1 crown broccoli, 1 head cauliflower and a box of saltines. I spent $9.75 OOP, saved $1.00 with IPQ and saved $9.52 price matching. I don't include my price matching savings in my totals, but I was just curious to how much I can save by doing that.
At Rite Aid I bought 6 Scrubbing Bubbles foam cleaner at $2.50 per can using three $2/2 MQ's and $9.00 in UPs. I got back $5.00 in UPs and a $4.00 catalina, so free except for tax. I used my other UPs to get 6 pks. Diet Pepsi, 2 cans almonds (raincheck), 1 bottle of Mentos gum, 1 Nexus shampoo (raincheck), 1 polish remover pad, 1 E-Z glucose meter and 1 cowtail. I paid $3.81 OOP and saved $45.75 and got back $19.00 in UPs and catalinas. The meter was free after Rite Aid IPQ and I received $10.00 in UPs making it a MM.

I've never seen that price. I would totally stock up for the year at that rate. Freeze them, dry them, make jelly. I usually try to get the "locally" grown ones from Watsonville, CA (.99 May-June) but I've been hearing again about the pesticides that they use on them and I think I'm going to have to stick to organic this year if i can. I heard that they are still using a pesticide that they outlawed a few year ago. If you remember Jennysmom's Dirty Dozen, strawberries are one of the worst fruits and veggies to eat that are not organic (things with a peel are not so bad.) Sadly that means I'm going to have to fork over $1.99-$3.99. I'll bet I can find them for $1.99 in the next two months. I'm hoping for an awesome sale at Whole Foods like they had with blueberries last year. I really like strawberries. I had no luck growing them last year.

I don't mean to judge, I'm just sharing info. Apparently they've updated the list. I didn't know this but it says you can reduce 80% of your pesticide intake if you only avoid these 12 items. (Oh, I guess 2010 isn't brand new.) Good to know. We’ve all heard of the so-called "dirty dozen" those fruits and vegetables that have the highest levels of pesticide contamination. In April 2010, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization, released an updated list of the new “dirty dozen” to help guide consumers. According to the EWG, you can reduce the amount of pesticides you consume by nearly 80 percentby avoiding these twelve most contaminated fresh produce.
What are the New "Dirty Dozen"- Celery
- Peaches
- Strawberries
- Apples
- Blueberries
- Nectarines
- Bell peppers
- Spinach
- Kale
- Cherries
- Potatoes
- Grapes

Not the healthiest thing to eat, but I do it when I'm craving chips and figure it's healthier than chips.
BAKED SPINACH LEAVES 1/2 bunch spinach leaves, thoroughly washed 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil sprinkle of fine sea salt and fresh ground black pepper Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Dry the spinach leaves in a salad spinner. Place the leaves in a large bowl, and lightly drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with just a little bit of salt, and fresh ground black pepper. Toss gently with tongs. Spread the leaves out on a single layer on a baking sheet fitted with a wire rack. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the leaves are crispy. Serve immediately.

Thanks or all the ideas ladies.
Will think about quiche. Love me a spinach, mushroom (tomato?) omlette. Not in the mood for lasagne right now-its a fall or winter thing for me. Need to try the baked leaves. Love kale chips.
Dancin I use drained, processed cottage cheese instead of ricotta. MUCH cheaper: $2.29/24 oz vs 3.59/15 oz.

Hi all, Just got back from DD1's graduation. It's official: she's a physical therapist. She also rec'd the most outstanding student award. Nice surprise for her. It was great to have all three of the kids in one room again. We did lots of activities: celebratory dinner, baseball game, wine tasting, the zoo, and, of course, the all important clubbing. Actually, we stayed in only one bar chatting the night away. Got to see our good friends, too. Expensive as it was (because mom and dad paid and we had DD1's BFF as a stowaway--they are all still poor), it was well worth it. So proud of my three. Have to get to S/W today to get the Cracker Barrel, ICBINB, and Frigo. Thanks, Dancin.

I did my Price Rite run yesterday and they had Cook's ham, butt portion for .69/lb! I only grabbed one and am kicking myself now...I have a dr. appt this afternoon about a mile from there and may swing back and grab another, if they have any. There were only about 8 in the bin when I was there and I have a feeling that might've been all they had and were just getting rid of them from Easter. Decisions, decisions... I just don't want a ton of extra stuff in my freezer cuz I'm getting my side of beef next month.

I just went through the week's grocery ads (5 stores) and nothing caught my eye. I haven't gotten into my J4U account yet, so maybe there's a jewel hiding in there. It won't hurt my feelings if there isn't. I still have (20) Sargento Ultra Thin slices to buy this week before the J4U price expires; other than that, it would be nice not to have to buy anything else this week. I still have apples.

We got DH's retirement packet in the mail yesterday. I guess we'll be spending this weekend going through it. We did a "dry run" last year, so hopefully it ought to be pretty easy. The VP asked him not to make an "official announcement" until the rec for his replacement had been posted, but the stupid thing has been in HR for almost 5 weeks. DH asked the VP to expedite it 2 weeks ago and told him that 5/31 would be his last day. As of yesterday, the rec had STILL NOT been posted, but we're pressing on. What's the VP going to do? Fire him?
