HOUND ALERT - JUST 4 YOU QUESTIONA thought just occurred to me. The Cracker Barrel Cheese says Limit of 4, but it doesn't say "one time". Does that mean that I can use the peelies and get (4) more at the J4U price in a separate transaction? TIA I wish. Nope, it means that the limit overall is 4, but may be purchased in anywhere from 1-4 trips. The "one time" restriction, when present, means buy 1-4 but must be all in 1 trip. Marvholly -- So unfortunate you have trouble with J4U. I NEVER have ANY trouble with it. I am in Chicago (the city proper). Perhaps change your "home store" on J4U. The coupons, etc will work even when you go another Dominicks that's not your home store, so long as their base prices are the same, and I'd imagine the next closest store to you would be the same. Mine works for all of the Dominicks that I ever go to (city or near burbs) Maybe it's a glitch w/communicating between website and the store you chose as "home store". (Also, I think there may be a slight delay -- 24 hours? -- between when you add coupons, etc to your account and when they work. I just check out the site about once/week and add everything that's there).

Dancin It seems like I have NOT been impressed by the grocery ads for many months now.
hinil I don't think I even have a 'homestore' listed as I get to 1 most frequently but also hit a couple others at least 1x/month.
My big fruit/veg mkt has strawberries for 0.59 for the THIRD week in a row.its getting a bit boring (ha ha - love them w/plain yogurt or waffles & cool whip or just eating).

We got DH's retirement packet in the mail yesterday. I guess we'll be spending this weekend going through it. We did a "dry run" last year, so hopefully it ought to be pretty easy. The VP asked him not to make an "official announcement" until the rec for his replacement had been posted, but the stupid thing has been in HR for almost 5 weeks. DH asked the VP to expedite it 2 weeks ago and told him that 5/31 would be his last day. As of yesterday, the rec had STILL NOT been posted, but we're pressing on. What's the VP going to do? Fire him? Oh, that's so exciting. I can't wait to retire!! It's a long way to go for me though. P.S. DH started getting checks from his part-time work and it's just enough to pay his share of the bills. He changed bank accounts so he's not getting charged for going under the minimum balance and they even gave him back the charges they already gave him. And we put a "filler" in his account so he doesn't have to worry about the minimum. Whew! I told him to keep me posted when things get low so we don't get charged for anything and asked him not to put anything on the credit card. So things are looking better.

Dancin It seems like I have NOT been impressed by the grocery ads for many months now. It definitely has changed, but I am still happy to be able to cherry pick an item here and there when they are available. Last week I was thrilled to get (4) 8 oz. pkgs. of Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar for $.99. This week, it will be a couple of bottles of free Ken's salad dressing. If I can find a few really cheap or free items a month, I'm happy. I don't like the limits, but that's just the way it is these days.

I told him to keep me posted when things get low so we don't get charged for anything and asked him not to put anything on the credit card. So things are looking better. It is exciting and a little scarey at the same time. After 33 years with the same Fortune 500 corporation, DH's pension will be less than 30% of what he now earns gross. Out of that, we will pay more than double for retiree medical AND will no longer have vision or dental insurance. I guess we should count ourselves lucky to have a pension and subsidized retiree medical at all!! We also have more than enough in our taxable accounts to pay off the mortgage if we should choose to do so and have been contributing to DH's 401k since we were 24, so there is not a whole lot more that we could have done to prepare. The transition for us will be "saving for retirement" to "spending our retirement nest egg". The scariest part of it is not knowing what the government is going to do next, but life is too short to wait any longer when we've worked so hard for him to be able to do this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm glad that your DH's efforts are paying off and that you are feeling some "relief". I know that you were pretty stressed out for a while there. As long as you continue to work as a team, you can get through anything.

Wow, ladies, check your emails. I got a 4/20 from cvs emailed on both of my registered cards today. Can't even tell you how long since I've seen one of those! I have $5 EB on one card and $2 on the other, so probably won't use them, but, who knows...

I bet the average OOP for couponers has increased quite a bit.

I don't remember the last time I got a $/$$. However, that is prob because I NEVER have orders that even approach (60%?) the required spend amount.

I don't remember the last time I got a $/$$. However, that is prob because I NEVER have orders that even approach (60%?) the required spend amount. Actually, most of the $/$$ equal a 20% discount - $3/$15, $4/$20 (most common), $10/$50, etc. And they could be used on almost anything including clearance items, sale items, and items giving EBs, so you could wipe out your OOP with the $/$$, coupons, and EBs and usually get equal or greater EBs back. CVS has been offering a lot of 20% off coupons instead, but the register will not apply the discount to anything that is already on sale or on clearance. Most people have used them to get a discount on products that are not on sale, but which ARE giving EBs - combining the 20% discount with coupons to get the biggest discount possible. They recently changed the wording on them to say that they cannot be applied to any promotional items (which would include anything giving an EB - even even for products that are not on sale), but I don't know whether the registers have been programmed to disallow it. Obviously, the $/$$ makes for a much better deal. ETA: I just read on WUC that for this weeks insert 20% off ad coupon to work on EB items that are not on sale, the cashier MUST scan at least one item in your cart BEFORE they scan your card. If your card is scanned first, the 20% will not come off of anything except non-promotional/non-sale items. The cashiers at my CVS have been trained to WAIT and scan your card before any items in your cart - even if you have to dig it out and a line is forming so this coupon would be of absolutely no use to me.

I got a $5/30 in my email, and I have a coupon for a free bottle of biotrue/renu that I've been holding onto. The coupon expires tomorrow, but I figured I would wait until the evening and see if Sunday's sales have already kicked in. The biotrue/renu is on sale BOGO50% next week, so I'm hoping I could get 2 bottles and use 2 MCs along with my freebie coupon. That would mean <$3 for both, plus I'd probably be about halfway to $30 if I wanted to use my email coupon too. I'll have to check the ad to see if anything else catches my eye.

I got the $4/$20 today too. Now I have to get some kind of deal together. I wish they would discount more food items. I did grab 3 tucks spray on 75% off this week so $6 ish there. But nothing apart from that. I have been bringing in the last Toilet paper and paper towels from the car trunk. I kept it in there as its light and it keeps it out of the way. It has been in the car all winter since the deals back whenever. My local grocery store sucks lately. The prices went up and the sales at insulting. We have been hitting the store accros the street for 99c packs of Tom's and older fruit and veg, nothing wrong with it, just not going to last all that long. Oh and I found out at 5.30 the fried chicken all goes half price. Good to know. We don,t do KFC or Boston market any more so the chicken and salad with rice or something is good. Hope you are all finding great deals........we have to keep trying.

Maybe it will pick up a bit as barbecue season approaches. Some cheap condiments would be good.

dancinmama,
RA has snow clams on clearance - 50% off - unfortunately I did not check regular price since that aisle was really crowded. In case you are interested, you can call the store to see if your store also has this.

I'm pretty sure the regular price is over $2 (probably $2.39-$2.69), so even at 50% off, it would be higher than what I would be willing to pay. I got canned clams at the dollar store for $1/can a while back and still have some rain checks for CVS @ $.77 and $.88/can. But thanks again. I REALLY appreciate it.

Guess I should've checked the coupon previews for today. One measly insert. Our cheapest Sunday paper here is 2.50, ridiculous! Doesn't look like there's 2.50 worth of coupons I'll use. Oh well...
Target is doing their Earth Day bag giveaway today if anyone is near one. Too far for me and have other stuff going on. Some of The bags this year are supposed to have coupons and product samples in them.

I heard about the bags at Target. If I needed to go across town anyway, I'd get one; but I don't so it's not worth the time and gas. I did read on WUC that some people (1) coupon booklet and samples and some got no samples, but (5) coupon booklets. I think I'd rather have the extra coupons.

I had another unexpected good cherry picking session at Walmart. They had the little Almay makeup removers, which gave me overage. I got a bottle of ketchup, an 8 oz. bag of Diamond walnuts, a head of cabbage, kluski noodles, grape tomatoes and garlic salt for $.45 OOP. I price matched the ketchup and tomatoes and used 3 Almay IPQ and $1.00 walnut IPQ for a savings of $16.00. At Meijer I bought 2 jars of Chi Chi's salsa and 1 pkg. Chi Chi's tortillas and paid $1.49 OOP. I had three $.50 MQ doubled for $3.00 in savings.
Constanz, I printed out my $4/20.00 CVS Q but am having a hard time trying to put together a deal. I will get the Crest TP but don't know if it will prove worth it to get anything else. Any ideas?

ruby- I just looked at the ad and didn't see much, but I didn't get around to looking at what Q's are available. There were LOTS of EB deals, so probably could put something together for little OOP. I just don't know if I want to bother...not much I was excited about. Make up, HBA, stuff I already have way too much of...I don't know if you use the WUC site, but there's usually lots of scenarios posted there. I haven't been on there in weeks. I'm just not feeling the whole thing lately

And if you don't have EBs to roll into a deal and/or really high value coupons, you're still going to pay a chunk in OOP - even with a $4/$20. When you've been playig the game for years, like you have, there is going to be little that you really want or need that you'd be willing to pay OOP for. Shopping for low or no OOP at CVS requires constant rolling and a constant flow of $/$$; one here or there just isn't going to cut the mustard.

The only thing on my CVS list this week is the mayo/miricle whip for $2 each and there is a $1 IP that 1 of my local bloggers posted about. That is becomes cheaper than the Aldi version ($2). I forgot to print he coupon Sun so have to go back to CVS as I am just about OUT.
did hit WAG for the Planters PB. Was told NONE of the 5 stores in my area stock this item EVER. Was NOT offered anything else as a substitute. Read this am that WAG is saying stock will be in by 4/28 and they are extending the RR deal. Some stores posted notices but NOT mine. I believe in that about as much as I believe in the tooth fairy. WAG has NEVER extended a RR deal. No stock has ALWAYS meant OOL. might try Sat as truck comes Fri in my area,
Got a bunch of needs at Aldi and 2 books from the library by authors I LOVE.

I went to Safeway last night and picked up the free Ken's salad dressing and more of the Sargento Ultra Thin Slices. Thanks to the hounds who sent me the $1/1 Sargento coupons. The regular price for a package is $4.29. The J4U price (from the coupon center) was $2.44. Using the $1/1 coupon, I got them for $1.44 for a 7.6 to 8.0 oz. package. I think this is about as cheap as I'll ever see for a package of deli sliced cheese. The coupon was regional and I didn't get it, so without the help of others I would not have gotten this deal. You guys are the best.

Dancin:My RA had the Snow's clams for 75% off. Also, the small cans of salmon. Had to run in there yesterday as I had 2/$2 UPs expiring. I wanted to get 2 of the Colgate tp's because I had 2 $1 q's and a $1 VV q for the new ZX brand (or whatever it is). They were out of the new kind so I bought 1 of the Total ADvanced, 1 can of Planters mixed nuts, and 2 Milky Way bars. Ended up paying $1.07 and got $3 UPs back. Nothing too exciting, but believe it or not, I only have 6 tps in my stockpile. There was a raid at Murph Mart! I, too, got the $4/$20 q for CVS. Once you've been out of the game for awhile, it always requires some OOP to get back in. I have 3 free 12 pack coke q's I could use that would give me some overage but don't know if I want to use them that way. I'm kind of waiting for the Safeway B2G3 free sale. Also, I have some peelies for $1 off A&W 10 root beer and can get a 12 pk for .99 + CRV at WAGS this week (they have a $1 off in their monthly coupon book, too). We're having a party on June 1 to celebrate both girls' graduations so soft drinks are a must have. I've got 4 12 pks right now but can always use more. Just wish I could find a good deal on beer! I'll have to take DD2 with me to buy that because I have no idea what she and her friends/cousins like these days.

I did go to CVS and put together a deal. While not my best trip, I did get the Crest which is our choice of TP. I also got 2 Oral-B toothbrushes, 1 PF concealer and 2Orbit gum. I used a $4/20 CVS, $5/2 Oral-B (found in Duracell batteries last Dec.), 2 $1.00 Crest MQ and paid $9.95 and got back $14.00 in ECB's. I can get the Jif and some Dawn next week.
At Rite Aid, I paid $1.71 OOP and $9.00 in UPs and got 4 Colgate TP and a jar of Planters cashew halves. I received $9.00 back in UPs.
At Meijer, they had a buy 8 save $8.00 on Kraft and Oscar Mayer products. I got 2 packs shredded cheese, 2 bacons, 3 hotdogs, 1 Kraft dressing, 1 Sargento sliced cheese, 4 Chi Chi's enchilada sauce and 1 salsa. I paid $16.92 and saved $12.96.
I'm good on produce and will wait till the end of the week to price match bananas and pineapple which are on sale at Aldis this week.
Hound Alert: If anyone has any of the Chi Chi's coupons from last weekend and will not be using them, I could really use them. I buy this brand when Meijer has a sale and I'm a long way from making fresh salsa from our garden tomatoes. TIA

If anyone has a Weis/Mr. Z's, they are having their "customer appreciation" sale where tons of items are only .88 -- frozen veggies are included and i have $1/2 making them only .38 per bag. that's a great price for me. There are a large variety of items, and tons of which you can find coupons for! ShopRite this week was also looking good. They have pork ribs for .99/lb, I will be stocking up for this summer. DH loves them on the grill. They also have store brand PB for $1.49 and Purex laundry detergent 4/$6 and I printed 4 .50 coupons which will double, making each bottle .50! Digiorno pizzas are $4.47 or something and there are $2.00/1 coupons online. I like to keep those in the freezer for a night that no one feels like cooking at all! And I read there is a catalina on those pizzas too. This will be a big week for me between both stores. I'm planning on making at least one big run and then maybe additional smaller ones if need be. Finally! I've been waiting for a good week like this for MONTHS!
