Did I just lose my post? Doh! I did lose it. Here it is in a nutshell. Are your lettuce and other winter veggie prices up?I'm getting tons of Swagbucks this week. I'll recap later. Don't feel like retyping the whole thing. Yes!! Normally a package with 3 romaine hearts lettuce heads were only $1.99. Starting in January, the same package cost $3.79. Also, instead of a head of Romaine costing $1.00 or $1.29, it is up to about $2.29 a head.

Suzi It is not only the lettuce but ALL fruits & veg. romaine hears are $4/pkg (16-18 oz) even at Aldi. Regular heads are smaller & cost WAAAY more per lb. Apples have been at least $1/lb-esp my favs - grannies & fuji. Brocolli & cauliflower generally at or over $1/lb. Don't even ask about fresh spinach-$2.99/lb or higher.
I LOVE my daily salads but............It has been tough to eat balanced & healthy on a limited budget even just shopping the perimeter of the store.
don't know what I will be doing this week as my paper w/the new grocery ads did NOT come on Wed so no ads for the main grocery chains and my 2 near home fruit/veg markets.

I meant to comment on the lettuce prices earlier, too...I forgot. About 3-4 weeks ago there was a sign up at Price Rite, saying there was/is a lettuce shortage due to poor growing conditions in, I think, South America. I can still find iceberg lettuce for $1 a head on sale, but not on sale is 1.99-2.49 most places.

I went into Costco the other day intending to buy their 6-pack of Romaine. There wasn't a one to be found. I ended up buying a big bag of pre-cut up salad mix (iceberg with carrots and purple cabbage) instead. It doesn't have as long a shelf life and doesn't have much nutritional value so I rarely buy it, but I had no choice besides buying "weeds" which are probably healthier, but I don't like them.

I think prices of everything have gone way up. Shoprite has some of the same Dollar Days deals as a year ago. I don't know if anyone remembers my Splenda deal where I got them for free and got like 20 boxes. Well I am down to my last box. I saw where they have it again for this week's Dollar Days. Well last years was $3.99 a box with a $3 OYNO Cat WYB 3. They had $3/1 coupons out making them free. Well this year the only coupons out are $1/1 so I was going to pass anyway. Then I see the box as I pass in the store and it looked smaller. I picked up a box and it said 40 count. So I bought Sweet N Low at staples.

I am back from our mini-vacation to Arizona/spring training. We had a wonderful time. It was freezing the first day (and I packed for sun, of course!) but warmed up for our final two days. The desert is beautiful but I don't think I could live there year round. Those 110+ degree days May-Sept. would do me in.
In any event, I thought I would tell you what happened last week at Target. I went there after work to get the cereal deal: buy 5 Gen.Mills cereals (certain varieties), get $5 gift card.
2 Peanut butter crunch: $5.00 2 Multigrain cheerios $5.00 1 Cheerios $2.50 3 lb. bag Granny Smith apples $4.99 2 Orowheat multigrain sandwich thins: $5.38 2 Vanity Fair Napkins: $3.34
Minus 2/$1.25 PB crunch 2/$1 Multigrain cheerios 1/.50 Cheerios 2/$3 Orowheat multigrain 1/$1 Target q on purchase 2 sandwich breads 1/$1 off 3 Gen Mills cereals Target q $1/2 Vanity Fair IP q .10 bring your own bag .67 5% Target credit card Total: $12.82
Normally, the gift card should have registered after the last box of cereal was rung up. All the varieties I bought had the sign underneath them with the $2.50 price. No gift card. And, I noticed I'd been charged $3.49 for the Multigrain Cheerios. Went to Customer Service and the guy was not understanding what I was saying. He then said he would send someone to check the signage (which would take forever) so I said, I'll just return all the cereal for a refund. My Target card was credited $14.13: $1.31 more than I had paid. Assume that was due to the coupons somehow.
Later that day, I had to return to that side of town and decided to stop at Target again to check the signs. Lo and behold, the multigrain Cheerios were marked $2.50 w/the gift card deal. Obviously, an employee had put the sign in the wrong place. In any event, I decided to just stick with regular Cheerios and bought 5 of those.
5 Cheerios: $12.50
Minus 1/$1 Target q 3/.50 Cheerios q's .05 BYOBag .20 Target c.c. discount
$8.75 OOP. If I deduct the overage of $1.31 from the morning's fiasco, that means I paid $6.44 for 5 boxes of cereal, 3 lbs apples, 2 sandwich breads, and 2 Vanity Fair napkins. And the $5 gift card is securely placed in my wallet.
Seattle's Best coffee is $4.99 at Target right now so I think I'll use 2/$1.50 q's and the $5 gift card to get some coffee in my stockpile.
Whew--that was a long one!

Has anyone seen the green "My Allergy Guide" around anywhere lately? I feel like they usually show up at RiteAid. The 5-ct packages are BOGO at CVS week of 3/10, and I think they'd be free with the $3/1 coupons in the booklets.

Some people are getting it from CVS if they have minute clinics inside the store.

dancin In despiration I have bought the bagged, no nutrition salad stuff a few times over the last month at Aldi for 0.99/1 lb bag. I don't even like the taste but do want the fiber. I do likke 'weeds' and would happily buy them but the $$ is even higher than romaine.
Beachbum My nearest Trader Joes is a 20+ minute drive and not worth the gas spent for lettuce, plus I would spend WAAAY too much on stuff I really do NOT need.

Wow, the cost of gas is getting ridiculous. If it's this high now, I can only imagine what it is going to be like this summer.
Running to CVS, which is very close to home, just to scan my card is no longer happening even when I might want the coupon - like the $1 M&M CRT this week. If gas was cheaper, I would have been tempted to get them and use them on the EB deal next week, but I still have M&Ms and the cost of getting the CRTs was not worth it.

I noticed I was about $23 away from my $20 Up for the promo that was ending tomorrow, so figured I should go finish it out. Would've been stupid not to. I ended up using $10 Ups and about $3 OOP to get a $20 Up, and just cobbled it together on the fly. I REALLY need Zyrtec so maybe I'll just spend my $20 Up on that. I have a $7/1 IP but I don't think RA will take IP's over $5 so need to figure out where I can use it, maybe Target? Does Wags or CVS limit the $ amount on an IP? I don't remember...

In decent weather I can walk to both CVS & WAG. Of course, neither of these 2 close stores have my fav mgrs so I usually just tack on those stops as part of my regular shopping runs.

I thought it interesting this week when I received an e-mail from CVS reminding me I have a 20% off coupon for this weekend. Did anyone else get one of these? I don't recall ever getting a "reminder" before. I haven't been to CVS in I guess three weeks. Nothing was appealing to me. No EB's, couple of cash cards if I want to browse. CVS is a drive across town, so, I don't stop in to just scan my card.
ETA, I did stop at Wags yesterday. Does anyone know if (I haven't been able to find it anyway) if their balance rewards card tracks for points like CVS does for EB?

What I wrote before my post got deleted last time is that I've been growing lettuce heads and baby lettuce for salad this winter and I'm so glad I did. We got some seeds free DFIL and we got organic non-GMO seeds free on Amazon using GCs from Swagbucks, so most of my salad is costing me nothing. Usually Sprouts has some kind of lettuce for .88 every week. Last week they had it at that price but that was the first time in about 6 weeks. They had signs up saying that there was a big freeze somewhere and so there might be higher prices or shortages on lettuces and other winter veggies (broccoli, etc.)

I liked it better when it was $1. You could get it at the 99C Only store. It's still twice as much as it was before.
