I guess I went hounding at Kohl's yesterday. I had the $10/$30 peelie from the paper (week or so ago) and they sent me a 30% q. That's when I go there. So, I began birthday & Christmas shopping for DS: 2 Helix long sleeved shirts $16.80 ($8 and $8.80) 1 Tony Hawk flannel shirt: $12 1 short sleeved top (for me!) $14.99 Down comforter/queen size: $89.00
Minus the $10/$30 and 30%, the total came to $107 plus change. Rec'd $20 in Kohl's cash
They really had tons of clearance in the men's section--great stuff, too. Not so much in women's. Pretty picked over. We needed a new down comforter--ours is a little old.

I'm getting a little concerned about marvholly. Usually, she checks in fairly regularly and we haven't heard from her in a while. Thanks for the concern Dancin. Its been a really hectic week. I have not posted because I didn't want to be a downer. My Dad was transferred back to the hospital (4th time in less than 4 weeks) from rehab 2/12, late afternoon. There were again MANY health issues, several getting MUCH worse than before. Brother & I came to the conclusion it was time for hospice care. He passed away Tue evening. Funeral was Thur (DD2's bday-she wanted it that way). We had meetings w/the funeral home & rabbi on Wed and then were hoime to received condolances from friends & family the rest of Thur & Fri. At this point I am TOTALLY knocked out but I NEED to replace my microwave ASAP. It went kaput on Wed. It is very uncharacteristic for you not to post, thus my concern. I am so so sorry to hear about your dad.

This is why I love Kohl's. Whenever I need a "pricey" household item that they carry (like your comforter), I just wait patiently for those great coupons to come out. Without your other purchases, the $10/$30 and the 30% turns an $89 comforter into a $55.30 comforter. Can't beat that with a stick!!

Holly, I am so sorry for your loss. I haven't done much lately but am looking forward to some nice Dollar Days deals starting tomorrow at shoprite. The new Staples ad is up on their site. They call it a blowout which seems a little like they think more of it than me but it is the best they have had in a few weeks. They have some photo paper and some mech pencils that arre free after easy rebate. There are also some rebates on internet security programs. They have another pay $24.99 for a 5 ream case of copy paper get $20 in rewards. Other than that there are odds and ends that might be useful depending on if you are holding rewards and when they expire, plus what your needs are. Personally I need more paper like I need another hole in my head.

So sorry to hear about your dad, Marvholly. We had two losses at work this week too (I mean relatives of my co-workers.) Rough week for everybody.

I still have (2) $15 Rewards coupons to use, but I don't need photo paper so I think I'll hold on to them. Hopefully, they'll have better rebate items before mid-March.

Dancin -- there was nothing on the ECB to indicate what it was for, and nothing on the bottom of my recepit either. Very strange, but like I said, I'll take it!

SAFEWAY: STOCKPILE PRICE FOR SPAM ($1.17/can)
Now, let me preface this by saying that I am NOT a big SPAM fan; BUT it is canned meat and it has a long shelf life, so it is a product that we put in our emergency bins should there be a natural disaster AND DH does like to break into can every now and then to slice and put on a fried egg sandwich - YUCK!!
Anyway, here's the deal and it is only good through Monday, 2/18.
Add this in your J4U account (found in the coupon center) and the price is 3/$5 with a limit of (6) cans.
$10.00 (6) SPAM - 3.00 (3) $1/2 (2/10 SS) $7.00 OOP or $1.17/can (which is the absolute cheapest I've ever seen it)

Marvholly: I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I know you spent a lot of time taking care of him and visiting with him, and I know you will miss him. You are in my thoughts.
Monica: the EB was for Colgate, I can't remember if it was a monthly deal or what have you, but it was talked about in the clearance threads for CVS on several forums.

Marvholly: I am so sorry to hear whet you've been going through. It's tough losing a parent. I'll keep your family in my prayers.
P & G Rebate: There is a new rebate out for $15.00 when you spend $50.00 but the terms are different. Original UPC from the package (include a graphic if possible). What does that mean? Do they want you to take a picture? I just bought some Clairol on clearance at Rite Aid, so those UPC's will be ok to send but the Cover Girl eyeshadows I'll have to peel carefully or steam them off. They still have a place for you to write out the UPC's too.
If anyone gets the Sunday paper, check your inserts carefully. There is a glossy one page ad with a few coupons on it. One is for Pantene shampoo get one conditioner or styler free. I almost threw it out thinking it was junk. There are 3 other coupons for Vidal Sassoon.

I used my last EB at CVS today for the Folgers. $5.00 EB, $1.00 CVS coupon, extra Folgers in the stockpile, all good. There really isn't anything I see that I want/need next week. What interested me was, I received a $5/$30 via e-mail earlier this week that I applied to my card. It should have expired today. My receipt stated that it is now available until 2/23... What's up with that? I usually load any E-mail offers to my card in case something "may" come up....

I have one last 4$ ECB and I received a mailer from CVS yesterday - Top customer savings event - March 2nd or 3rd - 20% off your purchase. I am thinking I may save it for that week.

I haven't gotten ANYTHING in my email for CVS except for the Tuesday Specials and % off for ONLINE ONLY in over two months!! I guess my "breakup" with CVS was a mutual thing.

Nothing special to report. No luck finding a decent, late model microwave at the charity shops Sat.
did spend 90 minutes online Sun checking various stores for 'deals.' Went from 10 stores to actually shop down to 3 - all on my general shopping route. Worst case: I'll grab the unit from my Dad's apt. It is OLD but working.

SHOPPING AT CVS vs NOT SHOPPING AT CVS
I got my SPAM last night at Safeway, BUT this is the difference with being out of CVS. SPAM is a product that CVS carries and even though the price has never been this low at CVS (rock bottom with coupon is $1.47at CVS ), I was always able to get it for "free" with $/$$, EBs, and coupons there. Well, not completely free because most of the MMs at CVS are sales tax items and once I could no longer avoid paying sales tax there in 2011, nothing was 100% free anymore.
So ya, my grocery bill will go up because I will actually start having to pay higher OOP for food items/pantry staples that I used to always get at CVS for "free", but I guess I must not mind too much. Last night I didn't even bother to walk into CVS to scan my card and it's right next to Safeway.
I hope for the days when it makes sense to shop at CVS again.
EDIT: My computer froze and I couldn't finish my post, but hit send hoping I wouldn't have to retype.

Dancin: I thought you had tons of CVS cash/gift cards? You can still use those to keep your pantry items stocked, right? Or do you consider that to be the same as "paying cash"? If someone's given me a gift card, or if I earned it via My Points, I consider that "free money". If it's not coming out of my actual pocket or bank account, I'm happy. Perhaps I'm just rationalizing! As for SPAM, I think SuziQ was the one who loved that stuff. I'll buy canned tuna for my emergency kit--can't stand SPAM--and it's not good for you either. Sorry about bolding. I can't figure out how to put the quote in a box.

Went to Target this morning and did a couple of the gift card deals. Plus Valentine's stuff was 70% off although it was still marked 50%. The GM cereal gift card deal is a GREAT deal! Just about 2 weeks ago I was telling BFF that I was down to one box of unopened cereal and needed to find a deal. Well, I am totally stocked again after the GM deal at my grocery store last week and Target today. They are 2.50 each and you get a $5 GC wyb 5. There are tons of varieties included in the deal and $1/1, even 1.25/1 Peanut Butter Toast Crunch (if it's still available) AND $1/3 Target Q.
I did the unilever GC deal too, although I didn't think it was that great between prices, included items and coupons available, but since I had GC's to put into it, I went for it. 2 Simple face wipes, 4.79, 2 -$2/1 IP's 2 Tressemme, 3.49, -$1/1 Target q (I only had 1 printed but could've used 2 if I had them), and 2 -1.75/1 peelie
I was looking for 70% off bedding clearance I've read about on other blogs, but nothing at my store. Lots and lots of clothes clearance though.
Went to Kohls to use my 20% off coupon and a Xmas GC. Got two pair of pants and still had $3.xx left on the GC.
Went to Price Rite for a few groceries. All these stores are in the same plaza. Price Rite is a discount grocery store, like Aldi, but bigger and better. They carry a lot more national brands and their prices are really good, but they don't take coupons. I'm still mad about my visit there today! The couple in front of me bought 3 CASES (72 cans) of Mt. Dew, and paid over $25 using food stamps! This chaps my a$$! I bought a half ham, 2 kinds of lettuce, a cucumber, a pepper, Brussels sprouts, melon, berries, onion soup mix, bread, chips and mini cupcakes and MY order was $20 and I paid with my very own money! ARGH! I don't begrudge anyone who NEEDS food stamps to feed their family, but the fact that it's ok to spend $25 on Mt. Dew, which is NOT food, or a need, just really bothers me...ok, rant over!

Sorry about bolding. I can't figure out how to put the quote in a box. Yes, I do have about $200 in CVS cash/gift cards, BUT I have a strategy for how I will use them. A typical example would be the Planters peanuts. Rock bottom after coupons/rewards for Planters peanuts at CVS is currently $1.50/jar, but I was able to get them at Safeway for $.99. Did you notice that when the $1/1 Planters coupon came out vs the $1/2, CVS raised their price by $.50/jar? Coincidence? So I'll go ahead and spend the OOP at Safeway and save the $.51/jar extra that I would have paid at CVS, and put it toward the purchase of items that are cheaper at CVS than they are anywhere on the outside due to lack of sales or not as good sales (i.e. Snows Clams, GE chips, etc.) or because I have rain checks for food items at prices that we'll probably never see again that I will use when I need to restock those items. In addition, since I'm not getting any $/$$, that increases the prices at CVS even more.....for me. About 90% of my transactions at CVS involved using a $/$$. I know it may sound like a strange plan, but the CVS GCs are good forever so I will take my time using them to maximize my savings when using them even though it might mean spending something in OOP somewhere else in the meantime.

Well, I went over my grocery budget of $65 by $25 dollars. It is okay tho. I got things I'd have to buy next month, and now I won't have to buy them. Plus, I found a great sale on meat, and I can really stretch it. The single largest purchase was 6 loaves of the wheat-free, rye-free, gluten free bread. 6 tiny loaves cost $41.70. It works out to 46 cents a slice. I'd still rather pay it, and take my lunch to work than eat food that is bad for me, and costs a lot more. Also, I got 14 lbs of fresh fruit, and 11 lbs of lean meat. Not too shabby for 28 dollars.

Am I going bonkers or is the price of produce (decent lettuce like romaine/leaf, apples, grapefruit, green beans, brussel sprouts......) WAAAY higher this year than previous winters? Apples are seldom below $1/lb. Same for green beans. Broccoli has been near $1/lb most weeks. Sprouts were $1.49/lb on Mon at my 'cheap' market.
I am VERY much a fresh produce person but have been usuing MUCH more canned & frozen for a while now.
Only mushrooms and tomatoes seem to be priced decently.

For those of you who have been doing deals at CVS in 2013, are any of your stores "allowing" you to stack a $/$$ with a $/dental purchase (for example) in the same transaction? I read on WUC that this type of stacking is no longer allowed and it seems as though the registers are no longer allowing it (but I don't know from experience cuz I'm not shopping there). In addition, you can no longer use two $/$$ in the same transaction, even if you have the right dollar amount purchased to use both of them. Geez, I remember when some of the Grocery Challenge gals could stack a $5/$25, a $4/20, a $3/$15, and a $2/$10 and get $14 off their $25 order before they even started handing over their coupons. You guys were "extreme" before the phrase "Extreme Couponing" was ever dreamed up!! I haven't heard whether you can still stack a $/$$ with a CRT that gives you a discount on a specific product like $5 any Centrum or $1 off any Gold Emblem chips with a $4/$20 OR whether you can stack a CRT with an MC for the same product and get overage. I wonder if they'll put the kabosh on all of that too. It seems like a lot of the "tricks of the trade" that allowed us to shop for free at CVS and once were par for the course have been tossed out of the game , but I would appreciate any feedback from someone who has actually been shopping there.

IMHO, EVERYTHING has gotten REALLY expensive. I don't know how people with large families have coped with the increased prices over the last few years. Imagine the cost of feeding and raising a couple of teenage boys these days!! OMG, I can only imagine the grocery bill!!

Dancin -- I haven't had the opportunity to stack both a $/$$ and a CRT because I'm really not buying a ton of stuff. I have 3 CVS stores that I use, one on the way home from work (used most frequently), one near my grocery store, and one near my grandmothers (least frequent). I can also drive home an alternate route and hit 2 additional CVS stores on the way home but I don't frequently do that.
The store that I use the most, on the way home from work, is VERY coupon friendly and I can't imagine that they wouldn't allow me to use both a CRT and a $/$$. I would be shocked if they even blinked an eye.

RE: CVSIt seems that I've been limiting my CVS purchases to clearance items . Though, a week back I bought 8 bottles of V-8, Palmolive dish soap and a few other items so as to get the $10 GC. Usually I don't like to pay any cash at CVS as I have had enough GCs, money cards to cover OOP. But I figured that I had to buy the V-8 ($2.50 each)anyway(for DH) so even if I had to pay some cash, which I would have done at WM or Tops anyway, I might as well do it and get a GC out of the deal. I figured that I didn't want to burn any of my GC monies on this either as I'd prefer to do it on other HBA stuff that might be MM or yield some ECBs later on. Yes, the game is changing, but it's all good. I still love the challenge.

I was able to stack MC with CVS coupon (homemailer though, not a CRT) for overage last week. I'm not sure if the cashier realized there was overage involved, but she knew there were 2 coupons for the same product and the manager specifically told her she could take 1 cvs coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon. This is also the same store that fully realized I was getting $6 for the tresemme BOGO coupon even though they were $3.50 and allowed the autodeduct anyway. YMMV as always.
