OK, so how is everyone doing today as far as preparations go? Are you done? Nearly done? Wandering around your house in a whimpering clueless panic, whisk in one hand and vacuum in the other? I still need to: put the turkey breast in the bag with the brine, mix the stuffing ingredients and put it in a roasting pan and roll out the pie dough, fill and bake the pie. Oh, and choose a wine.

Tonight is deal with the stuffing (cut the bread and gently toast it in the oven. And I think make DH's gluten free piecrust. Possibly even the entire pie, if I think I can trust us to not eat tonight...

I have a turkey thawing in my fridge and the grocery shopping is done. I'll be cooking tonight, DH will be cleaning. I don't think he knows that yet.

I'm debating on doing red velvet cheesecake. I brought the pan and the recipe with me. I have to run some errands anyway. Not sure I will have enough time tonight to make it. We have a pretty busy day planned.

I will be cooking our "leftovers" turkey tonight (we barely had anything left last year and I missed my leftovers!!!). We are using Emeril's Brined, Herb Roasted Turkey recipe for this one, and I'll be doing the old "seasoned salt & a pound of butter" on tomorrow's bird.
I will also be drying out the bread for the stuffing (dressing?) tonight.

I went to two grocery stores last night and was AMAZED at how few people were there. I'm glad I pulled up my big girl panties and went - I totally didn't want to get off the couch.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how orderly things have been in the grocery stores also. Not really crowded and everything calm. The parking lots, on the other hand, have been another matter. People stacking up waiting for that space closest to the door, or idling in the fire lane while a companion shops. Maybe that's why the stores are quiet. Everyone's still in the parking lot.

Another amazing thanksgiving grocery shopping story.
I went to Costco last night, and spent $22. I asked if there was a $50 fee for spending less than $100, as I've never seen anyone do it.

DS arrived home from college last night. So today I'm sending him to the grocery today for last minute items (including the cornmeal the dog ate). And we're making a liquor store stop at lunch. DS is making his pumpkin cheesecake today. Tonight I will bake an apple pie, freeze my new cranberry whiskey slushy recipe, bake cornbread for stuffing and make custard for my pineapple salad. DD arrives tomorrow morning and DH will start the turkey and all the rest of the stuff.

I went to Wegmans Monday night and spent $6. I've rarely spent less than $50. My brother and stopped at WalMart last night at 8pm or so and it wasn't crowded.

I'm thinking the liquor store will be packed. I'll report back after lunch.

Well, liquor store parking lot was jammed. But it wasn't bad inside. Lots of employees working. I got some George Dickel bourbon for my new drink recipe. And some Amaretto for DH.
